I Made a Beat from Scratch in 10 Minutes on the MPC One and OP-1 | Plus Merch Launch

In the first 10 Minute Tuesday beat in over 6 months I use the MPC One, OP-1, Moog iOS Apps, and the Roland JU-06a to make a drunken hip hop beat from scratch. I start it off with a basic drum beat using some samples I grabbed from Splice. I then add some chords from the Teenage Engineering OP-1. Once I laid those down, I hunted down a bass sound I liked from the Moog Model D iOS app. And just before the timer ran out I came up with a decent sounding lead with the Moog Model 15 iOS app.
After the timer went off, I came up with a new bass line, a drum fill to help break the loop up, and a new lead with the Roland JU-06a. Then I paired all that with the gnarly XYX FX and Mute Groups on the MPC One for a quick performance.
Plus I have finally launched my own merch! I've been working on coming up with some good t-shirt designs for literally years at this point so I'm extremely excited to finally have a line of 6 t-shirts featuring the Teenage Engineering OP-1, the Roland SP404 Sampler, and several more designs I hope you enjoy. Considering you were a little rusty, this beat turned out pretty well in ten minutes. Great job Brad !👏 Q. How is the OP1 connected to the MPC ? Just via USB, and then selected midi channel? Can you record sounds from the OP1 into the MPC? Or vice versa? Thanks!
I appreciate that Neo! I'm thinking about making a video about how I have everything connected, but essentially I have the USB going into the MPC and my iMac/Audio Interface/Logic is handling all the audio routing into one output that I'm using as my MPC One Input. But I can easily switch so the output can be fed into the OP-1 input or the SP404 Input. I broke my brain trying to figure it all out but now that I have it, it's awesome!
Thanks for the quick reply, it’s much appreciated. I totally agree, half with battle with all this fantastic kit is working out how it all connects and works well together !! I’m fortunate to own both the MPC One and OP1 (bought over last 12 months, so new user-ish!) and would really welcome a breakdown of the back of the boxes with connections and relative results. My main aim is to be pretty much 100% hardware based and avoid the PC route as much as possible.

Hey Brad, I am looking for a device that I could use as a looper and controller for the op1. Since its too hard to use the op1 as a controller, I do think I need something else which would help me with the live production and performance. what would your suggestion be?
Sorry but I don’t really have a good solution for you. The closest thing I can think of that’s both a looper and a controller would be an MPC but you would have pads instead of traditional keys.

is there a way to use the mpc one as a usb interface for the op-1 or is it only the mpc playing thru the op-1? When i hook mines up it only sends audio to my live via usb.
Appreciate it dude! I don’t know if I know what you mean about the usb interface. I’m able to send midi from the MPC to the OP-1 and I have my audio all routed into Logic with my outputs all (except the mpc output) feeding back into the MPC’s audio in track. Not sure if that’s what you mean tho
@@BradTennant basically i thought i can record audio with my usb from my op-1. if so i would be able to not even need a mixer and do everything in the live , on board from midi notes and turning them into audio as if the op-1 was a usb microphone. but even with what it’s giving me i’m only able to sequence 1 sound per project just hooking up the op-1 midi period so i’m just disappointed a lil
@@joefarrin Ahh Yeah I know what you mean now. I tried to do the audio over usb directly into the MPC One without any luck as well. I had a vision I might be able to ditch logic pro all together and use my audio interface + usb audio but no luck. The extra I/O on the Live II is tempting but I think my next addition will be a 12 or 16 track mixer instead.
@@BradTennant damnnn. as much as i wanted to stray away from mixers lol i might just have to do that also unless the X can handle the job. i mean it does have phantom power, so maybe it had a better i/o , maybe thats the big difference $1000 difference in hoping. i already have a One and a Live. i literally love my one but use my live more cus i’m on the go. but if the X can accomplish this subject i will get it and never look back yo!🤦🏽♂️ and if you figure it out a way around this and make it a video it will be a half a million views video guaranteed 💪🏽🤘🏽😎
Good luck bro! My One is my first taste of the MPC universe and I’m definitely at home with it. But yeah it seems those more expensive versions might make studio life easier for sure
