I adore searching for random kingdom hearts essay videos. One of my favorite types is retrospectives, so it’s a pleasant surprise to see you making one of these
I didn't skip it, I just didn't know it existed when my friend and I started playing KH 2. Gave the Final Mix version a go years later and never finished Traverse Town. Couldn't figure out how to progress any further after meeting Leon and co in the house.
Except me. Although I assumed enough gamers had a GBA. I was fortunate enough to play it when it launched for GBA. I enjoyed it very much even. Definitely enchanted my excitement by the time KH2 was coming out. The card system was interesting. For everything you explained how it works is how it managed to get me hooked in the combat as exhaustingly repetitive as it is. And how I warmed up to it for the uniqueness as more card abilities unlocks. I was super hyped for RE:Chain just because it was nice to have a console version. And the new features that came with that wasn’t in the original. I was blown away having Riku playable, and how that begin his amazing redemption arc. One of the highlights, and in certain ways I like his gameplay more then Sora’s as it’s more simplified. I always admired, and enjoyed what it tried to be. But I totally understand the criticisms.
Great video dude! I never played the GBA version, however I first played ReCOM on the 1.5 remix on PS3. I remember I went in to this game with low expectations because mostly everyone bashed it.... I ended up loving almost everything about this game. The story, the card gameplay, playable Riku (My fav part of the game) and it connected KH1 and 2 perfectly. The only thing I don't like to much is the worlds, they get really repetitive really fast especially after just finishing KH1. All in all I really enjoy ReCOM and ended up getting the Platinum trophy on PS4 when I went for all the trophy's for all KH games.
Reaching does have major problems with the game mechanics 1. Progression cards for draws are rng why. 2. Further into the game getting through doors is expensive I forget which world but eventually midway 49 cost and above is yucky
The GBA version is my personal favorite. I Absolutely Love The Gameplay. And Don't Even Get Me Started On The Beutiful 32Bit Art Style. Even The FMV Videos Are Pretty Good. This Game Needs A Re-Release On Modern Hardware.
I played both versions of this game, and as a fellow enjoyer of turn-based combat.....I see where you are coming from but in execution I am just not a fan of this game's combat. I don't have too much of an argument for why as it's been a long time since I beat this in either version, but I just don't. Riku's route felt cathartic to me for that reason lol. Also I think what enjoyment I did get from the combat was kinda ruined by the grinding you were talking about. I do enjoy the main story of this game though, the disney worlds not so much, but this is probably the best execution of giving Sora a more complex arc like DDD does later. I personally like Sora when he's an upbeat snarky main character like KH2, but I dig what they did with him here. I will say that Riku's route very much kind of feels like they realized the game was too short, and kids were probably wanting to play as Riku (because this was the 2000's lol) so Nomura probably had them add his route at the last minute. Could be wrong though. Good video Jordan, this was well-edited :)
I didn't think it was a bad game either, the story is part of kingdom hearts so I def wasn't gonna skip it, really for me what's would stop be from wanting to play it was the card battle gameplay. But after awhile I adjusted and got to compete the game sure it was challenging in creating a good deck at times but overall I did enjoy it, though I'll be honest I do perfer the other gameplay style more
Welp guess I’m gonna get flamed for this…. I ACTUALLY ENJOYED RE:CHAIN OF MEMORIES AND FIND IT TO BE BETTER THAN DREAM DROP DISTANCE! In fact DDD was the one KH game where I actually stopped playing and had to come back to it later cause it was boring to me.

Technically riku did visit monstro and neverland. So cutscenes could’ve easily been made for them.

Great video. It is nice to hear someone talk about this game. It is my second favorite in the series. Looking forward to your other retrospectives.

Apparently it might be coming to Nintendo switch online if the leaks and rumours are true.

I DEFINITELY like DDD better but ReCom is still a fun time to just pick up and play for the fights
I literally started with gba COM lol
