is this to the best way to create a smart hub, so you can connect all your devices through Apple ecosystem or is that a better way of doing it now. Thank you for your help.

Please change tack and create videos for the installation of Homebridge. The recent upgrade of homebridge is far more stable and just as easy to configure. You can even install it on x86 machines as well as virtual machines or containers. It’s far better to run Homebridge natively instead of the Hoobs iterations. Hoobs was ok while Homebridge was catching up but there’s just no reason to ‘install’ Hoobs now.

Already using Homebridge on a Raspberry Pi and it's awesome. I added into homekit all of my Sonoff devices, Xiaomi Humidifier, Samsung AirConditioner, LG TV (WebOS) and so on.

I can’t seem to find out if HomeBridge allows devices for Amazon/Alexa to be used in HomeKit. I don’t want to control Alexa or Alexa devices through Alexa. I want to control Alexa controllable devices with HomeKit directly. Specifically, Lumary RGB LED recessed wifi ceiling lights.

Thanks for doing this. I’m super interested in giving this a go. Would I be right in thinking this would be a good way to get Ring devices into the HomeKit system, so would it let me view Ring cameras on my AppleTV, respond to motion and doorbell presses in HomeKit automations and switch on/off a Ring spotlight in scenes or with Siri, for example?

I understand that with Apple Silicon devices that HOOBS is not needed to integrate nonHomekit devices into Homekit. Is this correct?

Does noone make a access point screen to control a whole smart home. Literally every piece of electronics in my home is connected to wifi. Tstat, door locks, vaccuum, security cams, PC, Ipad, Iphone, All TVS, ALL home audio, fridge etc. So why cant I purchase a device with like a 8 inch screen that everything can be controlled by? Why do somethings have to be controlled by Ipad and some by PC only? I mean its all going to the same router so I dont get why it has to be so difficult.

You just have to be savvy in what you buy for the time being. There has been some talk of Google, Amazon and Apple talking to try and establish a standard, but it's like Apple iPhones and Android phones, they're competing platforms. Homebridge and Hoobs and Home Assistant and HAP-NodeJS help bridge the gaps, but they're not plug and play and require a level of understanding and programming. If you want seemless integration stick to equipment that works on one platform for now unless you have the time to read up and teach yourself JSON formatting and other skills needed.

I concur, if you already have an up to date Homebridge it’s far better than Hoobs. I’ve used both and recently switched back to Homebridge. Hoobs causes more trouble than it’s worth.

@@HomeKitAuthority I think the point has been missed here a little, it’s not about personal preferences, it’s more to do with recommending people waste their time on an inferior setup that will cause them a lot of aggrevation. Hoobs is a superfluous inferior skin on the Homebridge platform that is really not needed any longer. The false sense of simplicity Hoobs promises never really works out, it’s far better to use Homebridge which is now easier to use than Hoobs and far more powerful and reliable, with greater compatibility for the Homebridge plugins that you’d be trying to use in Hoobs unsuccessfully. Trust me, I’ve used command line Homebridge, moved to Hoobs and have now moved to Homebridge with its API Driven user interface. I’ve run both on raspberry pi, x86 and as a virtual machine. I’d recommend Homebridge every time.

    • @HomeKitAuthority

What point exactly, I answered the original question. Just like you have an opinion on the subject, so do I. I have used hoobs and had very little issue with it.

Homebridge is now easier to use, updated more frequently and more stable. Hoobs is virtually redundant now, can’t see any reason to recommend over Homebridge.

Do you have your sky box in Hoobs? Just wondering whether the sky q plug-in is better than the likens of say the broadlink and setting up the remote. Essentially what I’m wanting, not sure if I’ll do it yet, is a remote control from my apple devices
