  • On this day 12 years ago, the Philippines filed a case against China over its claims on the West Philippine Sea (WPS), one of the most disputed territories in history. Although the 2016 Hague arbitral tribunal ruled in favor of the Philippines, China has grown more aggressive in asserting its sovereignty over the territory. In May 2024, China enforced a unilateral fishing moratorium prohibiting Filipino fishermen from fishing in the WPS. One of the lesser known disputed shoals is the Scarborough Shoal, or “Kalboro,” as it is known to the locals of Masinloc, Zambales.
In this documentary, The GUIDON looks into the stories of Masinloc fishermen who continue to endure the harassment from Chinese vessels, as well as the subsequent loss of their livelihood.

Noong nagbabakasyon kami sa Masinloc, maraming tuna or bonjing ang nahuhuli. Kaya may ice plant mismo sa bayan. Sayang at ang dami pang ibang isda na nahuhuli. diyan sa BDM.
