      Thanks Ron, I'm totally with you. I made these because I always get asked to do more white meat chicken recipes. That being said, these do have a good amount of flavor thanks to the marinade and if you don't overcook them they can be pretty juicy.

    Love the marinade and crust on these chicken tenders. That crunch sound is just awesome. I'd love to be able to grow lemons properly. We have one in the house that we bought last fall. It has many lemons but has nearly lost all its leaves. LOL.

      Hi Annette! My lemon trees go through cycles like that, too. And they're outside in the ground. Once the fruit is all off, they tend to start leafing out again. I think they tend to focus their energy on fruit production and stop making leaves.
      I have a Meyer lemon that's about 13 years old. We affectionately call it "stick tree" because it's often just bare sticks. But it keeps growing and makes fruit! Right now the avocado tree is overshadowing it. But stick tree has been through many leafless cycles and still bounces back. Kinda like people I know (myself included!)😉

      @@TheCowEmporium Citrus are pretty heavy feeders, so you might want to get some citrus food, if you don't have some already. Funny, Marc's Meyer looked half dead when he got it, but in just a week or so, it was looking so healthy! I hope you have great success with yours. Sounds like you got some fruit already!

      Thanks Annette! We have so many great citrus here in Japan, but Meyer Lemons are tough to find in stores. Turns out our climate is pretty well suited for growing them so I bought a little tree a few weeks ago. It was missing almost all of its leaves and the ones that were left were covered in aphids, but I’m nursing it back to health😅 I’ve heard they grow well indoors so I’m going to try to grow it potted for this season and maybe go outdoors with it next spring.     Made this for dinner tonight & it is fall apart tender! Don’t skip the lemon! These are going in the rotation!!! So good!!!! You knocked it out of the park!!!

      I'm so happy to hear you enjoyed this and that it made the cut into your regular rotation. The key seasonings for the marinade are the soy sauce and sake, so you can play around with other herbs/spices like garlic and curry powder to give these other flavor profiles.

    Tried this the other day. Excellent recipe. My family & I really enjoyed it. Much better than the American chicken tenders we're used to. The taste of ginger in the marinade was a great surprise. Very delicious. 😋

    Wow, that crunch! You sure made a beautiful video out of basically a beige food. Incredible artistry! Great technique, too! Ohhh, and that Meyer lemon! Chicken and lemon is one of my favorite combinations. 😊🐓🍋 I have a recipe for chicken breast marinated in lemon and spearmint, then grilled. Bet you could change up the marinade in this recipe and get different flavors. Not that this combo doesn't look fabulous.😋

      Thanks Kathy! And it’s so funny that you mention “beige food” chicken tenders are so beige, not just in color, but taste too. 😂 yea you could take this a bunch of directions. Salt and herb brine and then dipped in marinara would be good. As would lemon zest and black pepper! Can’t wait till my tree bears some more fruit!

    Looks delicious. As a muslim, I need to replace Sake with something non alcoholic/Halal. What ingredients are recommended that can be used instead of sake?

      Thanks! Are you aware that soy sauce (and most fermented foods including bread dough) contain a small amount of alcohol? It burns off when you cook it, so the food shouldn’t contain any alcohol by the time you eat it. As for subs the sake is there to add umami so the closest substitute is MSG.

      It’s a cast iron dutch oven that came as an accessory to my stove made by Rinnai, they switched to an aluminum design a few years ago so I’m not sure you’ll be able to find these, even if you live in Japan.

      An "airfryer" is basically a tabletop convection oven. It will work in the sense that it will cook the food, but it won't turn out like in the photos/video as air (even if it's circulating) is not as good at conducting heat as a liquid (oil).

      Hahaha. If given a choice I’d take Karaage , but you’d be surprised at how many people request white meat recipes and this is a better alternative to making Karaage with breast meat (it gets dried out by the time the potato starch crisps)
