Every year the Kenya scouts association members through their education institutions participate in inter-patrol competitions from the grassroots levels to the zonal.
Winning patrols at the national level represent Kenya at the zonal level in East Africa.
The patrols are tested in many areas and different categories are starting from the 1. Chipukizi- These are the primary school pupils,
2. Mamba - these are the high school students.
3. Jasiri / Rovers - These are those in tertiary institutions like colleges, campuses, and others who are not in either but are in these categories as open crew members.
4. Each of the above has special categories.
5. Each of the above also has the name category among others.
