What Jody brings to the table is very candid, and clearly shows when a man is willing to tell the truth rather than when a man wants to promote his truth.
RESPECT Jody Mitic! I am very proud that we military veterans from the US and our allies are supporting and covering one another like we did in service.
Jocko your humility, grace, and power along with an understanding of the balance of human weaknesses and true human value creates a forum for change and growth. Jody - damn dude this is so powerful! Thank you for sharing your battles. Thank you for going back to bootcamp over and over again. Thank you for trusting Jocko and Echo enough to be real with them and with all of us.
I had a setback today due to my own mistake, and i was feeling sorry for myself and going down that hole... after hearing this while i do my deadlifts all i can say is..... G O O D. GIVE ME SOME MORE, LIFE.
Only lost one leg in my 8th year as a cop. My "leg guy" here in NY is one of the best. If you're in the neighborhood... I'll take ya to him. There's no perfection. There's tips and tricks to get through EVERY day.
Thank you for having the authenticity to do this Podcast. Be careful with praise- the most psychologically terrifying thought in this context is addressing the people who supported you and telling them you stumbled and fell. You have a friend in me, Jody. Well played, Jocko. Echo, you already know.
Late to the podcast sorry about that eh. Canadian Armed Forces member in training. Thank you for service Mr. Mitic and for being a massive inspiration to a once nerdy kid turned infantrymen becoming a patrol pathfinder one day.
Right at 1:23:00 or so, when Jody talks about feeling really bad about talking about himself and spilling his guts to Jocko, that is one of the most important sections of this podcast. Most of us, I'd wager, pride ourselves on being independent, able to take care of ourselves, and able to deal with whatever we're dealing with by OURSELVES. Well guys, that's bullshit. We may be able to take care of a lot, even the majority of the things we deal with on a daily basis, but it builds up over time. Sometimes we deal with things little by little, but that doesn't mean they go away. We deal with them in the immediate, but we keep thinking about them, and hold them in our minds for a long time, and those thoughts never ever go away. They build up and collect like a giant compost heap of struggles. And like a compost heap, they need to be turned. They need to be aired out. They need to be spread out and applied to fresh earth, in order to feed magnificent, marvelous new growth. If allowed to fester, it only leads to rot and decay and poison. But if they're allowed to be exposed to newness, to fresh earth and seeds and soil, they can feed and encourage beautiful and fruitful new growth, the kind of growth that takes root and can never be toppled because it digs so deep. If you're going through Hell, a decay and rot so bad that it's prone to destroy everything, get it turned over. Get it exposed. And by God, look at it and examine it down to the atom, because that's the only way to turn it into a goodness that benefits you, that feeds you, that allows you to grow. Thank you Jocko, and thank you Jody, for facing the troubles head on and taking them into the light, so the darkness that encompasses them can be set aglow.
Have dealt w struggles myself....a wise man once told me...if a person is drinking or using and I may know...plain n simple it’s none of my fucking business...I will listen to any podcast any day about addiction or alcoholism cuz at some point I gonna hear something I need to...appreciate you sharing Jody Mitic...Hey Jocko n Echo you guys are pretty cool 😎
Great episode! Jody, stay on the path!! I'm pulling for you. And I have to say seeing Echo genuinely crack up at the end when Jody wanted to reserve two spots was hilarious.
Very strong message about owning our behavior and the struggle we have with our own minds. I learned a lot from Jody. Very humbling that we are all humans and not perfect, but an overriding theme of being disciplined in order to own your behavior.
49:45 Sounds exactly the same as the Canadian military in the middle of Rwandan Genocide. Shaking Hands with Devil by Lieutenant-General Roméo Dallaire. BRILLIANT book Would absolutely love it if Jocko could get him on.
Hey Jock, Jody hasn't had a forceful mentor. Like AA, a sponsor for a man like Jody has got to find a hard-nosed and focused sponsor who he looks up to. It's a matter of communication to get through to him. I am a civilian with a ton of people in my corner. But being supportive isn't forceful enough to get through to a strong willed man. It's gotta be a loving drill instructor Jody trusts. Just get through. Strong will needs stronger will to get through. Love your message Jock. It's a whole new battle. God bless. No man left behind bro.
Jody, as a fellow Canadian I am very proud of you for what you’ve sacrificed and accomplished, and for sharing your story with everyone. But PLEASE, please, please allow Jocko and Echo to finish their sentences before starting yours. Thank you for your service. 🇨🇦
Yes, tell your story. Yes, come clean as a big step to healing. Take extreme ownership. BUT THEN, maybe quiet down on the philosophical reasoning until you sort yourself out because you will discover alot more about yourself and life that you didn't know before. In that process of healing and reestablishment I guarantee you will look back at some stuff you said right at the beginning and have a bit more a of a different outlook. Not being a hater. Props to the guy. Just dropping a little truth that I wouldn't have even took the time to comment if it didn't really need to be said.
I like Jody I really do BUT... He unfortunately didn't sound convincing on the podcast #24 and neither this time by saying he'd stay on the path. Sorry guys I dont wanna curse him but something is missing in his tone of voice. It sounded somehow too "easy". Maybe cause I was on audio... He can stay on the path though but he needs occasional OVERWATCH and Jocko is the right medicine for that. I wish him all the strength and courage to proceed on his way to be a better human being, cause he'll be needing em.
There are a few homeopathic methods im aware of that could potentially help. Drinking is so far removed from my daily life I can’t remember the last time I took a shot from the bottle my brother gave me in early December. #Check
