Do I even want to know which - probably fugly - gun got that (nick-)name assigned to it? ps: I hate guns that try to look cool (dislike the FN SCAR for example, it's so blocky and boxy - it kind of looks extremely heavy and kind of like someone dressed up a firearm to be "tacti-cool" instead of tactical (not a fan of ARs, but they at least look like a real gun IMHO)) instead of being functional (the worst offender here is that damned Tavor...a gun where the shell was designed before the interior workings...a travesty if you ask me!) and rugged!
thomas kok The FS2000? I like that one :) (looks futuristic, but I don't think they pulled a Tavor here - designing the exterior before the interior workings!)

The basis for those bans is the sporting use clause from the 1968 GCA in that only guns with "sporting purposes" can be imported for civilian use in the US. I agree that there is nothing inherently more dangerous about a gun made outside the US. Get rid of that law and you get rid of the mechanism for the bans regardless what US manufacturers want. The law doesn't say that you can't own or sell rifles that don't have sporting purposes only that you can't import them (for civilians). My point was that the 2nd amendment says nothing about sporting purposes so restricting the sales of any firearm based on that is ludicrous.

+thedudepdx People seem to forget that the US's definition of "artillery" circa the 18th century was overwhelmingly owned by random guy down the road, not Uncle Sam.
It's a typical US thing. Many companies there are afraid of foreign competition. Instead of putting some effort in product development, they do their best to ban the competition.
As an OPFOR Commander I pressed many Valmets into service in 5.56 and the sqaud guns in 7.62x51NATO. Live fired and used for training with blanks. In US standard chamberings we could use all "off the shelf" blank ammunition. We employed the Daiwoo's and they were just as robust and serviceable as the Valmets. Love both weapons systems and we still have many in the Militia units we have formed. NOTE: The RPK 7.62x51NATO stamped Valmet copies came with HK-91/G-3 modified magazines. Valmet originally sent 7 magazines with each gun. All of the first models had the modified HK mags. They have worked flawlessly for all of the years we have had them. We modified 100 of the steel HK-91/G-3 surplus german mags using the originals from Valmet as the patern.
+Layer Ant HK did step up to the ban and they hated American marketeers because of the bans also. For commercial markets, HK was earning lucratively with their various self-loading rifles and even pistols so when they're working with the US Military to create better pistols to serve them, the ban hit them hard.
It would be even more amazing if HK did it because, aside from being a kick in the nuts for their marketing, it was the right thing to do also, because the ban seems like a major douchebag move.
I bought an HK-91 in 85 for $650 new in box. Loved the rifle. Magazine cost was high, $30 plus for standard 20rd mags and over $45 for a 5rd hunting mag, this was in 1985 dollars. Took 2 white tail deer with it and several hogs. Still kick myself for selling it in 86.
yes. because the french word for pound is "livre" and the french word for free is "libre" it's why the symbol for pound is lb(s). because depending on the dialect livre and libre sound almost exactly the same

Well i think, "controll" is a bit hard. In switzerland it is mostly about looking after you. Did you have any mental conditions which could make you dangerous? Did you go to jail for something that endangers others? Well those are obvious reasons why you shouldn't get a gun. And it is like selling alcohol and cannabis: It is much easier to buy marihuana because it is less controlled. If the shops (still talking about switzerland) are able to sell guns, the have to go after rules. And man, you don't wanna disobeye those orders. But i think, it is different for every country.

You're never ever getting more Valmets, because they stopped making guns decades ago, with SAKO continuing their legacy with the RK-95 + the civvie M92 variant, but even that business stopped back in late 90s, after Beretta bought the whole firm. In short: the few RK rifles that are floating around, are the last ones on earth, unless you somehow convince Beretta OR Finns to start manufacturing more.
if the RK ever gets replaced, they will most likely be sold to people. so don't lose hope. the rifle has served for decades now and needs to be replaced soon! they're starting to break from being used so much.

Not that I am disagreeing with you as I prefer the Valmet myself but it is interesting you picked it over the IMI Galil. I'd say most Americans know it better and wish for it harder. Valmet closed its firearms division in 1988, so even without the ban we would have lost those amazing AKs eventually. Yes SAKO did the RK95, but their production run ended around 1998 and they've not built any since. Really it is sad the state of European firearms manufacturing today.
sagqe Yeah they're basically just modernizing the existing rifles, it's done so they can postpone the buying of new rifles with like 10 years or so. It's a shame really, I'd love to see them produce rifles themselves, but selling Sako to Beretta wasnt really the wisest move ever.

Proprietary magazines, scope mounts, pretty much anything you wanted to do with the rifle you had to buy from H&K and they always were 2 to 3 times the cost of the same item for any AR rifle. They are heavy and although I regret some guns I have gotten rid of over the years that wasn't one of them.
It is all about patience and finding deals. Years ago, The Sportsmans Guide had nearly all of the HK addons for the 91 and 93. I bought everything they had. I bought my 91 back in '83 for $575.00 and steel mags were $5.00 to $10.00! SG was selling 6 aluminum mags, the two mag green plastic carry pouches (3 of these) and the chain cleaning kit for $17.00. I got the OD Tropical forearm and stock. I bought the Hensoldt scope and claw mount for $250.00 The collapsible stock for $60.00 and the list goes on. Even the .22 conversion kit for $300.00. I bought everything you could for next to nothing. Your point is well taken and you are right but it was well worth it. I still have it all and could sell it all for a small fortune.

Any gun legislation is an infringement to the 2nd amendment considering the word infringe means act so as to limit or undermine. Every gun law on the books now Limit Americans from owning certain types of firearms while others undermine the 2nd by limiting the features you can have on a rifle. Liberals just can't comprehend or understand what the word infringe truly means or they all out ignore the meaning of the word. The word is placed in that particular amendment so that any person looking to pass any law in regards to firearms could not do so without first committing treason. The placement of the word tells us that it isn't even a debatable topic. That under no circumstance is anyone ever allowed to limit any type of firearms and to do so is an act of treason because it falls completely out of harmony with the constitution. Liberals and some gun owners who believe certain laws restricting certain guns is a good thing need to rethink their position on gun laws because the amendment was written in such a way, that regardless of how noble your cause may be, you simply are not allowed to limit, edit, undermine or even discuss legislation in regards to firearms. I hear all the time how some gun owners say they defend the 2nd on one hand but still support not letting civilians have unregulated full auto guns or that they can understand why a certain gun law is in place. But they are happy to give the illusion they stand up for the 2nd but still send the government money to approve a tax stamp that regulates an SBR, SBS or full auto firearm. Now here is where everyone needs to pay attention. The government contains absolutely NO authority to regulate any firearms for any reason let alone pay them to own these types of guns. The minute we all let them pass a ban on a certain type of rifle and place new laws on the books that limited a certain firearm was the minute we all gave in and committed treason. In the end the only true way to support and defend the 2nd is to simply not comply and to disobey every gun law on the books. Your founders explicitly told you that you are not to support any gun law and to do so would be considered an act of treason. They would have hung a lot of people if they were alive today and not because they lived in a barbaric time or a simpler time but because they knew and understood that a traitor is not nor will ever be considered a citizen of the U.S. and treason would simply not be tolerated. Not complying and disobedience is how you protect what your ancestors and your founders fought so diligently to protect and pass to you. By throwing up excuses like "no one wants to go to jail" or "it won't do any good" is a cowards way out and shows a fear of your own government and a fear of the government is exactly what the 2nd was intended to curb period. You want to support the constitution and the 2nd then you do as your founders intended and use those firearms to secure and keep your freedom cause I can tell you the government don't care about you or your family why should you follow anything they say since their logic is intended to enslave the American people weather they know they are doing it or not. Your government only has as much power as the people hand over. Again any gun legislation is an infringement to the 2nd amendment simply by definition of the word infringe. It isn't just liberals who don't understand the word. Our intellectual understanding of plain English dictates that the 2nd amendment is untouchable by any and everyone period. No if ands or buts. Do not blame the 1989 ban or the 1994 ban because if you did not act to stop the threat of tyranny from the get go then you only have yourself to blame and the only way to get that freedom back is to demand it and if they don't want to give it back with no strings attached then you use your 2nd amendment right to force them to give them back. That is the premise America was founded on and we were once a country that did not give in to political powers and at one time we all knew that.
Anyone who leaves prison and gets back out on the street + wants a gun to use in a crime, they will get one on the black market. Stop being naive, xXYannuschshXx. Plus, ex-convicts who leave prison are let out because the government is basically saying they're able to live in society now. If they're not able to peacefully live in society, then keep them in prison, not let them back out. It's on the government to rehabilitate criminals. Their incompetence is what needs to be focused on here, not the guns available to the public on the outside.

2: Finnish Valmet
3: Zastava M92

+thomas kok Tactical Tuna? Do I even want to know which - probably fugly - gun got that (nick-)name assigned to it?
ps: I hate guns that try to look cool (dislike the FN SCAR for example, it's so blocky and boxy - it kind of looks extremely heavy and kind of like someone dressed up a firearm to be "tacti-cool" instead of tactical (not a fan of ARs, but they at least look like a real gun IMHO)) instead of being functional (the worst offender here is that damned Tavor...a gun where the shell was designed before the interior workings...a travesty if you ask me!) and rugged!
Well, just search on google and u will know the rest, kinda funky but give u a hint, it is not a bad bullpub rifle.
thomas kok The FS2000? I like that one :) (looks futuristic, but I don't think they pulled a Tavor here - designing the exterior before the interior workings!)
Yknow, I love this channel almost as much as I love Forgotten Weapons. Literally only reason forgotten weapons gets more love is because everyone loves historical firearms 😍
The 2nd amendment has nothing to do with sporting purposes. The law should be thrown out as unconstitutional.
+thedudepdx well how do you think paid the candidacy for office!. me by in country arms manufacturers (what a taking a but is corrupt politicians) making it so usa gets monopoly on market!
+happylatvian Indeed - they know that they'd lose a lot of business to "them damned foreigners" (imagine a Texan accent (or one from the Bible-Belt) please!) as for example Heckler und Koch (famous for their MP5!) is a household name in the gun-community (rightfully so, I mean a lot of law-enforcement agencies and militaries all over the world use their guns and they have a great reputation!)
+thedudepdx People seem to forget that the US's definition of "artillery" circa the 18th century was overwhelmingly owned by random guy down the road, not Uncle Sam.
The 2nd amendment says nothing about guaranteeing a large selection of different firearms to choose from lol

Backyardmech1 I really want a G3 as an ar-15 alternative (I have enormous hands) but I can't afford one

This law is simple cronyism. US gun manufactures just wanted less competition in the US consumer market.
yea kinda, and there were a lot of cheeply made imports that it shut off. It effected the bad & the good. aaaa nuts.
Exactly. It was idiotic for bush to cave in
Got any evidence US gun mfg's called for this? No? Stop your uninformed blathering
HK really stood up to the ban? I feel kind of bad for hating them. It takes balls and dignity to try and stop stupid choices of the U.S.
+Layer Ant HK did step up to the ban and they hated American marketeers because of the bans also. For commercial markets, HK was earning lucratively with their various self-loading rifles and even pistols so when they're working with the US Military to create better pistols to serve them, the ban hit them hard.
It would be even more amazing if HK did it because, aside from being a kick in the nuts for their marketing, it was the right thing to do also, because the ban seems like a major douchebag move.

where has gun control ever actually worked? seems like the states with the most gun control laws have the most gun related murders.
You'd have to live on a freaken island to prevent guns from entering.

Yes almost exclusively imports. FN makes M16A4, Most of the Armys M4s the SCAR used by some folks in Special Operations. The HK 416 in 6.8 will likely be replacing the M4 if it has not allready done so and they are also used in the Marine Corps and Special Operations Command. The SAW and 240B Machine guns are also made by FN. The Browning M2 50 Cal Machine Gun is American but Browning is owned by FN. I believe most of or Sniper Rifles are American Made. The New SIG P320 is of course made by SIG but its SIG USA in New Hampshire. SEALS are also now using GLOCK 19s which are also GLOCK USA.

You're never ever getting more Valmets, because they stopped making guns decades ago, with SAKO continuing their legacy with the RK-95 + the civvie M92 variant, but even that business stopped back in late 90s, after Beretta bought the whole firm. As a one time owner of a H&K 93 you aren't missing anything by not being able to get one.
I bought the Hensoldt scope and claw mount for $250.00
The collapsible stock for $60.00 and the list goes on.
Even the .22 conversion kit for $300.00.

TL;DR: stop violating our boomstick freedoms god damn commies
So many calories in that post.
Soooo... let's give every criminal a gun after they leave prison.
the idea is that we get enough guns in the hands of people walking around in public so we can just blow anyone who tries to start shit away
These laws can be circumvented by simply opening a manufacturing facility on American soil... That's how CZ did it.
But HK is too high on themselves to open a plant anywhere else other than The Motherland.
CZ, FN, Walther, Sig… Or, built under license by an american manufacturer like HS product does with Springfield armory.
These laws are clearly made in a protectionist purpose.
why don't you take responsibility and stop voting for antigun rinos?
