Inside the Actor’s Studio was my idea of fun when I was a teenager. RIP James Lipton. This is one of my favorites, two absolute legends/sharp minds effortlessly captivating us with this great discussion.
10:50 I abolutely love this... he says he always done the acting because its fulfulling but he doesnt care abbout the fame. I don´t think this is a complicated issue. This is actually the right path...
Italy has produced some of the most talented actors and artists the world has ever seen. Very creative and original people those Italians. Rip Mr Lipton and happy 81st to the great Al Pacino, who doesn't love Al Pacino?, he's for sure in the top 10 greatest actors ever.
I love al pacino. He is an amazing actor. "Scarface" , - was an amazing job of acting. **to have a Cuban accent and play a total different character*** *remarkable actor*. 💗🌈🌈🌈💗💗💖👍💝. He is one of the best in the business.💜⛅⛅💗💗👄👄💖💖💓💕💕💕💘💝💝💋💋💋💋🌺🌺💙❤💛💛👄💖💞. Love 💘💘💘and kisses.
It would make a funny extra on DVD's of "The Godfather"...Maybe somebody did it...Have some of the studio guys who didn't want Pacino apologizing: "Look, we didn't know he was gonna be THAT good! We didn't even know who this guy was! I know it looks stupid now, but give us a break!"
When I was involved in community theater, one of my fellow actors told me that the art of acting is the art of RE-acting...the way that Michael reacts as Kay tells him that the miscarriage was actually an abortion...the way that Yuri Zhivago reacts as he watches from the balcony while the demonstrators are being ridden down by the Cossacks...to be always present in the scene, in character, even when you don't have any lines of dialogue. I also like directors who say, "That's good--leave it in!"
I didn't know Al pacino was in the "Dick tracy" movie. I didn't see the beginning of the movie, so I didn't see the cast listing. That proves he is a good actor. **bravo***.💗🔥🌟🔥🌟🔥🌟🌟🕒💥💥💥💢🌟🌟✨✨❇⭐🌟. A real 🌟star 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌸🌸🌼.
Thanks for uploading this. When I lived in the US, I used to watch the Actors Studio. I’m now in Denmark, and I have not been able to find the episodes online anywhere 😟
The fact that his grandfather was born in Corleonne, hope I spelled it right, and then for Al to be cast in The Godfather as Michael Corleonne is not a coincidence. It is fate
He seems like such a genuine kind person. Kinda sad to see him be sorry about 'overacting' in Scent of a Woman, that's the major criticism towards him. I personally enjoy when he adds yelling and passion into his character it's his idiosyncrasy as an Actor. Kinda like Marlon Brando being a mumbler. Scarface was so incredible on my first viewing, didn't become a Pacino fan until now. I've gone through most his filmography, and he's had such a stellar career. He's such a gem, and I'm happy he received his flowers.
I don't think Scent is a great film, but I don't think it could really have been improved if he'd given it a lower key performance. It was hammy, but suited the material. The problem is just that it ends up looking silly that THAT was his oscar win when he had at least 5 better performances just that decade. If it never came near the oscars, no one would complain about that performance.
@@AllWordsAreDust I agree, idg why the academy failed to award him for his portrayal of Michael Corleone or Serpico? I’m surprised because Marlon was awarded.
@@naimaismail4356 You shouldn't take oscars as a metric for quality anyway, actors RARELY actually win them for their best work. I think for GF II, he and Jack Nicholson cancelled each other out for people actually voting for the best and the guy that one got a sort of sympathy/lifetime vote. The academy likes awarding older guys because it sees young men having more chances in their future. Also, even in the 90s, the fact he wasn't even nominated for some of his best performances (Donnie Brasco especially) but was for Dick Tracy - it's hard to take seriously.
@@AllWordsAreDust Award shows can always be a bit political in a sense. I don't necessarily believe awards are a reflection for the quality of the art itself. And think about those that get blackballed. I always felt like the Oscars kinda overlooked Pacino, which is crazy because he's loved by everyone. Either way, he had a spectacular career and his movies will live on forever.
@@naimaismail4356 Yeah I think the way the work lives on says at least 10x more than an award. I mean, does anyone remember the guy who won over him for GFII, Art Carney? No insult to him, I've never seen his movie, might be great but Oscar or not we all know what the more important performances were that year. I actually think the vast majority of my favourite performances didn't actually win their year. I wish for Al's sake he had won in the 70s, but I don't view it as important otherwise.
Oh, Sonny Pacino, the Lover Bambino --now that I've seen that beautiful picture of your motherI now know where you get those beautiful Sicilian eyes (PS. It's no secret that your grandad hails from Corleone I've known it for over 30 yrs.)

The parallel of fearing to be replaced is to you know being replaced by an underling in the mafia are amazing I would imagine he would he used that only had that feeling all throughout the filming that must have carried him through to give him that edge of you know being a mafioso

Want to see this because Al Pacino has made some great movies but also because he is articulate and honest and sensitive. I loved Serpico as a kid - such a brave Christ like character in a corrupted world. Serpico maintained his innocence. Scarface shows the emptiness and deceitfulness of sin. Al Pacino is on the right side in the cosmic drama. Some other actors, say Lady Ga Ga, are working for satan.
We need to give the casting people and producers credit where credit is due. They've got the script, they're having it read at the audition. They can see it work or not work on the spot. That's why, and thank God, they get the big bucks.
I don't quite understand if pacino uses affective memory or not. He says no at first but then he says how useful it is. Does anybody know what I'm missing here ? 18:33
Francis Ford Coppola was Al Pacino's guardian angel God knows how many people out there with that Talent never get that chance
Al Pacino's performance in "The Insider" was a master class in acting.
Pacino Forever❤
So his name is Alfredo (Fredo), his nickname was Sonny boy (Sonny), and his grandfather was born in Corleone?? Can't say he wasn't born for that part!
Nobody else was best suited for the part than him. A true Sicilian, descendant of Corleone.

Why this great actor doesn’t have more academy awards is beyond me

He played Big Boy Caprice
In the early 80"s was lucky enough to see Al on stage in London in "American Buffalo"
I'll bet that was good

Thank you

I had a dog named Sunni that stole my heart; now you :)
I think a single moment in a movie that has so much power is when Michaels daughter gets shot in godfather 3.
Ellen Burstyn, great actor as well!

When it comes to bad English accents Pacino in The Local Stigmatic knocks Dick Van Dyke in Mary Poppins clean out of the park.
I'm still holding out hope to see Al and Dustin Hoffman onscreen together (Dick Tracy doesn't count).
We need the de niro's interview

Dana carvey's Tony Montana egregiously egregiously hilarious
Can you imagine the studio actually considered Robert Redford for the role of Michael?
Sure, your perspective comes from the viewer of a finished product...that’s easy, but when the page is blank the options are endless
That is unimaginable.
Robert Redford for that role, that is. Pacino defined and emblazoned it as his own forever.
As the song goes, 'Nobody does it better."
