Thanks for all the tips and comments about service mode guys. In the past I've put the ignition on, allowed the wipers to 'wipe' and then kill the ignition halfway through; quite why I didn't think ahead to do it this time.. It is frustrating though as once the screen's all prepped and clear, you do have to allow the wipers to fall to their neutral position again; potentially undoing all your hard work!
Also, I had hoped to mention that the cleaning methods seen translate to inside your home, too. Particularly useful for laptop screens, monitors and televisions (work small areas, half the screen at a time) Also, Gyeon Waterspot Remover working wonders on shower screens in the bathroom!
I just came to the comments section to mention service mode to you. I was surprised to watch you struggle and not use this, but hey ho, you can't know everything on all models and cars. I had to google this myself for my Golf R when I got it.
Do you clean glass like this on all details? or just on specific higher end details?
I always put a tissue, napkin, etc. under each wiper blade to keep them off the glass so they can still move on perfected glass freely without an issue. 👍👌✌
40+ minutes of tip after tip on cleaning glass, how could anyone get bored with free knowledge for the future? Spot on Jim
100% agree. Sure glass cleaning isn’t the most thrilling. But it’s either 40 mins to learn to do it right, or a ton more time trying to figure out what we’re doing wrong... lol I’ll take any info I can get. Thanks Jim appreciate the video.
43 Mins of cleaning glass, honestly i would be disappointed if it was anything less, great stuff!
Jim love the video, however top tip put the wipers in service position, in the menu of VAG CARS or normally ignition on, off then hold the wiper stalk down for the floor and the wipers move to the vertical so the can be lifted free of the glass and changed. This make cleaning and application much easier
That's a good tip.
Dash DriverUK Thank you.
Yeah, but after doing so, you end up rubbing a dry windshield and it is not something you want. Unless you cover them with a cloth or something, but thats much more effort imo.
@@J63-n9d i just put a thin lint free paper towel under each blade when returning them to normal position. Takes just a few seconds. 😁👍
Yep I pinched the ceramic shampoo 38:26 and can confirm it works really well on my X3 which Jim recently had in for 2 days 👍
Never boring. Always learning.
oh yes, 40 odd minutes of glass cleaning, sign me up!!!!
Brilliant video , very detailed thanks
17:36 threw me - where have the rear doors gone 😂
Went from an Audi 4 to an Audi 5.
Oops, make that an Audi 3 to an Audi 5.
Never noticed, great spot👍
I swear only you could make a 44 minute video on cleaning car windows that leaves me glued to the TV.
It would be amazing if you do a whole series on detailing basics. How to cut and polish a car, how to claybar a car, how to apply ceramic coatings, etc, etc. Sort of a White Details Academy. This video alone is awesome! :)
These are all in Jim's posts, he has done them individually on every wash decon clean.
You made a really dazzling car. I'm doing the details in Korea. Your video is helping a lot. I ask for good videos from now on.
Thanks Jim! Would’ve never thought about the pile of the towel being the issue with glass cleaner and not the cleaner itself. Very helpful!
How's this comment 23 hours old and the video 5 minutes old? 🙃

@@whitetallon8784 oh i see, I thought the videos where in a patron separate platform
12:31 - He's so exacting, he even spotted a possible smudge which was a refraction of the light... amazing!
I’ll have to switch to always spraying on the towel instead of the glass and not just using the opposite side of the towel to dry-thanks!
Luke Anders me too 👍🏻
Congratulations on passing 70k subscribers! Been following since about 10k. It looks like you are starting to blow up, and very well deserved!
Jim not sure if you know and choose not to but you should be able to get the wipers to sweep up and stay there so you can lift them off the glass properly. Should be the same on any VAG car and maybe other manufacturers as well, but for Audis and VWs I've owned, cycle the ignition - on then off, then hold down the wiper stalk until the wipers move up.
I thought I wasn't going to learn anything new from this video since window cleaning is quite simple. Two towels, always spay on the towel, etc. Instead I picked some very good tips that basically solve my window cleaning problems. Excellent video. Thanks Jim!
I appreciate this was probably boring for you to produce but glass cleaning is ,as you said at the start , something that demonstrates how much attention has been given to the car and when done badly can ruin the appearance of a car. Thanks!
cleaning my cars for 20+ years and always wondered why the windows never end sharp as I intended. never thought of using gloves, how silly! it works brilliant, thank you Jim for sharing. subbed for a while now, went ahead and subbed from my wife's phone too, later will from my nephew's why not!
43 mins of absolute detailing perfection. Thanks Jim 👍🏼
Excellent tips and detailing practices.
Thanks for posting this Jim. I'm sure the VAST majority of us out here in the real world truly appreciate this video. For me, as probably most others, including professional detailers, other enthusiasts, and people who just don't like washing their cars at all, WINDOWS ARE AN ABSOLUTE NIGHTMARE! Most people would probably rather get a root canal done before doing windows, at least windows the PROPER way, meaning, actually CLEAN and STREAK FREE. Thank you for sharing your professional knowledge, experience, and hacks you've figured out over your career in detailing to make our job out here just a bit easier and more importantly, EFFECTIVE.
The glass and the S3 looks great, thanks for the vlog it was excellent as usual
Brilliant Jim. You might think this was boring, but it has been very helpful to me. I've had issues in the past when removing glass cleaner that I feel the waffle towel grabs on to the glass. So, I'm going to do a better prep now and if its still grabby, have a go at a different type towel. Thanks Jim
Takes his shoes off before entering the car then steps on the dirty floor and gets in the car lol. Great video with solid info about how to clean windows properly 🤘💪
Wow thats a detailed video.Very helpful.
35:00 those hips are dancing. And on the serious note. Im a detailer too and can confirm that the 100 percent of the video is useful. Nice that you dont said only about cleaning the glass but touched waterspots and coatings. This is everything about the glass you can put in 40 mins. And we all know the pain of the glass. Very good job on that video. You said that tutorials are not your best but you know how to do them. Cheers from Poland. Long time viewer, learned a lot to use myself. Cheers :D
Lots of useful tips in this video on how the get the glass spotless. I didn't realise the choice of towels was so important, that and wearing gloves!
Hi Jim, I agree with you about the GTechniq glass cleaner. It’s a really great product that makes glass cleaning effortless. Cheers!
Thank you for sharing your crazy skills and understanding that there are lots of us out here who have no problem watching 40 minutes about glass cleaning
I was not yawning watching it and it is an excellent video that brings out all sorts of issues that we encounter in keeping glass clean . Thanks again . Cheers
You are One of the best and my favorite detailer never miss any small details which is all about great video thanks
Thank you Jim for sharing your glass cleaning knowledge. Hopefully I will get cleaner glass now!
another great presentation Jim. Your effort does not go unnoticed. Because of this the car looks fantastic and I can only dream of emulating your results - but I’ll hang in there and keep practicing. Well done and thanks again from down under
Never bored watching someone else work hard, good tips Jim going to tackle my S5 glass this weekend .... G6 just arrived so no excuses now !!!
Hi Jim another great vlog and great to see you doing some how too’s incredibly valuable tutoring Thankyou. You may know or someone else may have said but there is a wiper blade cheat on VW and I’m assuming Audi’s too, ignition on , activate wiper and it should stop in the up position which allows you to lift the blades clear of the screen and bonnet, clearly you’d need to do it before applying the coating etc, hope that helps, or maybe useless info lol. Thanks again 👍🏻
I went from watching the 70hour Bentley detail, to this. The best hour and 45 that I’ve ever spent on YT. And I’d do it again. Thank you for the education. 👍
A very successful format. Lots of educational nuggets, tips, tricks, techniques, but at the same time while your actually getting some work done. ( yes I know you have a ton of time editing it) . Beautiful Car too, great job!
Watched the whole video as per with a White Details upload! A personal thanks for your time and effort Jim, I have been waiting on a glass cleaning video thats worthy and you have certainly delivered! I can now add some more steps into my own techniques to make the process more detailed for cleaning my own car. Reflections on the body work and glass are fantastic, keep up the sterling work!
It seems to me that "Go fast" kind of works for washing/drying the paint too....Wash a panel at a time, dry said panel as soon as possible. Move to the next panel.
LOVE your channel!
Thank you for taking the time to do this. My biggest strugle is the glass.
Thanks Jim!
Thanks Jim, its videos like this that help poor old hobbiests like myself improve. Love it, keep them coming.
I started to watch another one of your great videos and thought maybe I would get fed up of a video this long just on one subject. Oh boy was I wrong, picked up so many tips & tricks and actually found it really enjoyable and loved every minute. I would comment on one subject of wiper jumping as my old VW Passat rear wiper always made a noise even in the rain or just a quick screen wash. Over the years I’ve had new blades being fitted by VW to get a pass on the M.O.T. This problem lasted for years until I used wiper blades uk and they picked out a Aero blade that would fit the old style and would hopefully stop the problem and also look nicer as well and would be with me next day. I was not sure and thought of just going to Halfords but they picked out the same old blade. I spoke to Wiper Blades UK again and they didn’t mind me calling twice within an hour assured me that it’s a straight forward swop and the pack would came with everything plus different types of plastic fixings.I bit the bullet and went for it and placed my order. The blades arrived well packed and once fitted I’ve not had any noises since, so yes definitely clean your glass properly but maybe just maybe changing your old style wiper blades to a newer style and this also may stop the dreaded old wiper blade noise and lifting at high speeds.
Hello Jim. Please keep up the great work 1. This is not a boring video, it is very interesting. Clean, clear glass is so important 2. I thought I was going to have spend a small fortune, however it is better cleaner and better technique (have the towels) will get great results. 3. I have had several coupes and have never though of dropping the back seats to clean the back interior window. It is a massive pain on my BMW 4 series, I will try that. Cheers Jim👍
Thoroughly enjoyed that. Who said that window cleaning is boring? Thanks mate...
Big thanks for posting this comprehensive guide, Jim. 👍👍👍I will definitely be trying your method as I have never been satisfied with the results I have achieved on glass.
Thank you, great video
I’m happy to know I already use some method you use but it is always good to know some new tricks and tips. As always Jim, your job is perfect, done more than everyone is expect to see. This blue Audi is also awesome. You’re one of my best detailers out there (on youtube). Great job again and have a good day !
The gloves and quick wiping are great tips. I practice that but get lazy sometimes. I’ll be more careful in the future. Thanks for reminding me.
Hey Jim, any reason you don't use the service position for the windscreen wipers? I'm not sure about the newest Audis but mine was just an option in the MMI that would put the wipers at mid stroke and hold them there so you could bend them out for cleaning or replacement.
I’ve just posted the same re the blade position, I knew someone else would’ve got it , apologies for repeating lol 👍🏻
Me too apologies ✌
I’m assuming because once the glass is cleaned properly, the downwards stroke of the wipers back to regular position would make smears due to no lubricant meaning you’d have to do the glass again? That’s the only thing I can think of
HDISatisfy yeah that’s the only problem.
@@HDISatisfy if it were me I would agree. Seeing as Jim wipes down the glass no less than 4 times makes me think a little smudge at the end would be well worth not having to constantly shuffle the wipers around to do cleaning, 3 layers of polish, etc.
37:00 There is a mode to get the wiper all the way up.
Usually, with the car unlocked and the engine off, you pull the wiper stock to the full speed. This will prop the wipers to the maximum position, and they will stay there.
This way you can either clean them without fighting with them and the bonnet; and also you can change the wiper blades.
Good video, and very good advice.
Thank you, Sir!
Hi another useful video.. Like the gloves idea and working fast and not to much product.. Was struggling to get my windscreen clean getting the road grease off etc was not working. I’ve found is to use Traffic Film remover sprayed on neat onto the screen and cleaned with a paper towel and then rinsed and rinsed some more.. Made the next processes a lot easier.
I know you thought this was a bit 'yawny', but actually, as an interested home amateur, I actually enjoyed it all the way through. Cheers Jim - great vid, and well shot, and edited. Your channel has a style of its own which you should be proud of. New subscriber here :-)
Thanks for this Jim - lots of info to perfect my method. By the time I’m cleaning my glass, I will have taken off my gloves as I’ve finished the wet washing stage. I will now keep them on or put. A fresh pair on. I use ONR at 1:256 to clean glass as it doesn’t flash off quickly. Gives plenty of time to switch to the second cloth.
Thank you for your great presentation of cleaning glass. Learned several new techniques for a clearer smudge free glass
On the Audi A3/S3, if you switch off the ignition and hold the wiper lever down to the intermittent wipe position for 2+seconds, it will move the wipers into the "service" position.
Kinda the same as doing it manually with the ignition on, but this is "the Audi way".
To reset them back, put the ignition on and hold the wipers lever down until they return to their normal position (or drive faster than 12km/h)

Beautifully done. Windows are truly the most persnickety.
Awesome tutorial. Super thorough and informative. Thanks!!!
On Audis, go to car settings, service settings, service wiper blade position, and you can lift the wipers off the windshield - no more restriction by the bonnet.
I absolutely HATE cleaning the inside of the car windows, especially the windscreen. HOWEVER, I found a great product that has helped me clean glass. It has been SUPER EASY to use. Just wipe it on with a small pad, let it dry, then wipe off with a dry cloth. PERFECT clean glass each time. It is my greatest and latest find in cleaning cars. The product?? Adams Polish Brilliant Glaze!!! That's right, a product that has a love/hate relationship with paint is the secret to my expert and simple window cleaning now! Absolutely love it!!
Excellent video thanks Jim and appreciate your tips & advice 👍
Well that felt like 10mins not 40 !!
Who knew it could be so interesting.
Thanks Jim👍💪
Great guide, another thing that I've used as a big tip if not in a climate controlled location is, turn the AC one with defrost on helps especially if it's humid out.
Loved it thanks
New to the channel, this one made me subscribe. Thanks for the tips.
Thanks for the master class Mr White! Lots of useful tips to take away. Smile! 😃 🙏
Nice advice, Jim!
With some cars, you have to be a contortionist to get in to clean the windscreen and backlight. When I detail my Mustang for car shows, I pull the front seats forward and lower the rear seats to get to the interior rear window.
I just watched 43 mins of window detailing and have been schooled again! Thank you Sensei!
Thanks Jim for the in depth tutorial, thoriughly enjoyed and have learnt some new procedures and tricks. I use Gyeon Prep on the inside glass but don't follow up with any other product, I find it leaves the glass clear without any residue or smudges/smears. It is good for removing that dashboard vapor after hot weather that appears especially on the inside of windscreen from the protective products used on dashboard and surrounding trims. Cheers from Oz.
Jim, I want to thank you for your glass cleaning video. You should see the windows in my condo now, WOW!!!!!!!!
I have always found that when I wear gloves it makes the towel stay on the back of my hand while doing windshields and back windows. Besides keeping it cleaner😄
Look Jim, I'm gonna be honest with you. I have already mastered the whole glass cleaning ordeal, but I'm going to watch this video anyway because I've had an addiction to your content for years now.
Some great tips mentioned here and one that wasn't: always change your socks after climbing into the car - lol.
Thank you for so much tips and tricks 👍👍👍
What's your thoughts on diluted white vinegar Jim?
I started using it initially for water spot removal but when I used it on glass I was very impressed.
Jim, great advice as per usual, great insight into going that extra mile to really finish the car off 👌🏻
Very good video Jim. Invisible Glass make a paddle type device that makes cleaning the front and rear screen much easier.
Best detailer out there. End of
I'm definitely gonna check out aenso core looks like an allround interior product. The speedometer looked disgusting, great tips Jim hope to see you soon
Fantastic video , it's nice to see an expect sharing there methods and tips on how to do , Thanks Jim , always looking for better and quicker ways to do my detailing
Very informative, as always!
Keep it up!
Thanks for the glass demo - really useful. Could you consider doing a tutorial video on cleaning a panoramic sunroof properly as I am finding it really tricky and am nervous about affecting the car's interior (i have an Audi S3 ) Thanks Jim
Great video Jim, cheers!
Just finished watching the video... thanks for the loads of information! Very good video.
you can put the wipers into SERVICE MODE on the Audi range. Also if you cycle the ignition this can also release the wipers.
Jim the wipers do go up all the way you just need to go into the cars infotainment system and its in the vehicle services section that says wiper position it makes it much easier to clean and change the wiper blades👍
Many thanks Jim for your help, advice and how to, really appreciate it. Cheers
Great video Jim, tutorials gratefully received from this keen amateur.. enjoy all your work. Take care
Magnificent Video, Thank you !
There are few really good UA-cam detailing guys
Buy your glass system is one of the best 👍🏼
Watched till the very end, enjoyed it and picked up some good tips.
I worked in a car was. YOU are doing a VERY GOOD job my friend.
Lovely work mate. Attention to detail in every sense of the word. Think I'll try some of the glass polish you mentioned. Cheers
The knowledge and explanation is so helpful. Audi/VW wipers clip out with the square on the wiper stem and simply click back in, would you recommend that just for ease of application?
Thanks for this, I was looking at adding glass coatings, you just helped me decide👍 would love to see you do reviews, pads, compounds etc. Thanks again
love this and thank you for taking time to record, edit and present such great and useful knowledge.
Although probably a tedious video.. It's pretty valuable to many people! Ticked the box for the glass video so you don't need to do it again! Lol
Thank you, Jim. Great video with so much good information. Always looking forward to your next post.
So glad to see a new WhiteDetails Video! Love the content!
Yes finally i was waiting for this part of the car to be treated. Jim perfect video of how to clean it perfectly, thank you. BIG THUMB.
