  • OKLAHOMA! plays San Francisco from August 16 through September 11 at the Golden Gate Theatre.
This is OKLAHOMA! as you’ve never seen or heard it before-reimagined for the 21st century and the Tony Award Winner for Best Revival of a Musical.
Direct from an acclaimed run on Broadway comes an OKLAHOMA! that looks and sounds like America today. Funny and sexy, provocative and probing, “A smashing Oklahoma! is reborn. Daniel Fish’s wide-awake and altogether wonderful production is thrilling!” (The New York Times)
Without changing a word of text, this bold interpretation “lets us experience Rodgers and Hammerstein’s greatness anew.” (The New Yorker).

The young actor with the guitar is brilliant and captured this classic so heartfelt.

This is Wokelahoma. Where everyone just sits around picnic tables in a completely anachronistic setting.

If you don't want to acknowledge the misogyny and racism America was founded off of just say so.

I saw this "version" of Oklahoma in Fort Worth as part of my musical season subscription. It was absolutely the worst musical that I've ever attended and I've seen a lot of them. Almost half of the audience left at intermission. It was truly dreadful.

LOL I've also seen a lot of theatre and this is certainly one of the best shows I've ever seen. You for sure missed the points Daniel Fish was trying to make.

@@Joannathewizard_ Sorry, doll, I didn't miss anything -- unfortunately. When half of the audience leaves at intermission, it speaks volumes. I stuck around hoping it would get better but it didn't. It got worse. The guy who played Curly was handsome though. That was one positive.

@@tomm7505 You can say half of the audience leaving speaks volumes, sure. But all that says to me is this production can be seen as controversial and it's very different from the original. It's clear to me that Fish's interpretation of the show was lost on you considering the fact you just referred to me as "doll", as if I am inferior to you as a woman or as if I am not as smart as you. I'm sorry you missed the point of the show, but you don't have to take that out on me. I guess there are people in this world who will never understand the brutal effects of racism and misogyny.

@@Joannathewizard_ You're the one who started this by saying I just don't "get it". I understand perfectly what the "re-imagined" Oklahoma is about and I reject it and the premise it's built on and so did half the audience. I go to a broadway musical to be entertained and as a light-hearted escape from reality -- not to be lectured to and smashed over the head with woke garbage -- including casting a tranny as Ado Annie. And no, you are not "inferior" to me. My reference to you as "doll" was just being playful. As a gay man in his 60s who's been through a lot of crap, that's my way. If it offended you, tough, I think you'll survive.
FYI: I saw "Hello Dolly" in January 2020 with Carolee Carmello as Dolly at the same theater in Fort Worth and I left the theater that night with a big smile on my face. What a delight THAT was. Pure broadway entertainment. I highly recommend it to you.

We have already seen the reaction of half the audience leaving, all of them white boring people who came thinking they would see their usual classic. Bye.

Saw it last night, what a bunch of crap. This is not Oklahoma it's a table reading of Oklahoma. No set changes, no costumes, just garbage. I feel ripped off, and want my money back to I can see a real version of Oklahoma when someone puts on the original production instead of this stupid version. Do not waste your money!!

it’s different. I personally think it’s a better musical version but lacks some of the charms of the original because of its over reliance on realism and forcing feeding prompts and interpretations of the book

This more the sound of the "turn of the century" sound, were is was set in the 40's. I like it, but the acting? I hear it is a WOKE disaster, depressing and cynical.
