It's a false peristhasis, the cella is only a part of the whole interior and it's not a 'corridor'. The size of the plant was similar to St Peter's basilica without the smaller chapels. The open roof was a common design for temples of this size such as the Artemision of Ephesos, the Olympieion of Selinus, and other colossal structures taller than 25m.
