The spool is supposed to make that click when casting. On the first half of your cast the inductor rotor rotates out letting the spool spin freely and towards the end of the cast when your bait is slowing down the inductor rotor is pull back in, hence the tick sound. This slows the spool down for backlash control.

Yup, I have one too and it does the same thing, It's just the sound of the brakes working.

The clicks are totally normal. It’s from the 2 steps braking systems. If you take a look at the spool, you’ll see two cylinders that pop out and retracts as the cast is ending, hence the 2 pops.

Hey thanks for commenting! I am going to look into this and if that is in fact true I think i will keep the reel, it just did not seem normal to me.

This is an explanation by Daiwa on their boost braking system which is the braking system in your reel. Hope this helps

I have the JDM Zillion and love it! I can't see spending the extra cash on a Steez when the Zillion is JUST GREAT (Especially for the price).

@@user-vv4bs8fb2r Yes it does but not quite as loud as I would like. Not as loud as the 19' Antares but the Antares is a Tank to fish all day. On the water, especially when fighting a Bass, you really don't hear it as you would expect but it's still audible.

As most said. The clicking is normal. It’s the mag-z boost brakes working. The new ‘22 daiwa zillion HD has the same braking and makes the same clicking. Both are fantastic reels.

Thanks for the comment! I kept the reel and love it so far, if rhe clicking is normal it does not bother me but if it wasn’t then that is a different story! I have had similar issues with other brands I will not name.

Glad to hear you kept both reels. They’re both amazing reels. All I use now are new zillion SVs, HDs and Steez a2 reels. They’re just so good and the smoothness has ruined me from using my other reels now. LoL

Daiwas are meant to be used a bit different from almost any other reel. And that is where people have problems and dont like daiwas…..mainly cuz they using them wrong. daiwa has a different braking system; best brakes in the business. The brakes are powerful and versatile.
So heres why some people dont like daiwas……. Its as simple as reading instructions. They dont like daiwas because they say they wont cast as far as other reels or they backlash, etc. but its a user issue cuz they dont Read the instructions.
With daiwas, you are not supposed to adjust the spool tension all the time. Only when you change to something very lightweight or very heavy. But they are very versatile and will throw 1/8 oz baits without a bait finesse setup.
Basically when you set it up, you wanna set the spool to just where theres no play in it. You actually want a quick fall on the bait, not a slow fall like youd set up a lews or something.
The brakes on the daiwa are what control everything. Instead of tightening or loosening the spool tension, instead up or lower the brakes. as you switch baits and that, you dont need to re set spool, (unless drastic change in weight). You use the brakes to control everything. If theres a lil bit of headwind causing some fluff in the line, turn brakes up a notch or two. If you arent getting distance you want, lower them a notch or two.
A few years back daiwa tried to discourage people even more from messing with spool tension by creating the zero adjuster, basically where they recessed the spool tension adjuster making it harder to adjust. That design remains in most their reels to this day cuz they dont want you adjusting the spool tension. The brakes are very sensitive and theres 20 different settings. It only takes a click or two on brakes to get where you need to. Ive had brakes on 8 when a huge storm kicked in and wind blowing straight at me. I cast without thinking and got a lil backlash. So i set brakes like 3 clicks higher. That was way too much, turns out it just needed 1 click.
Some people cant get their heads around using their reels like this and choose not to use daiwas. Thats fine. For me it was the opposite. Probably 4 years i started trying different reels from all major brands. It was right after the shimano DC’s came out, so i thought id be switching to those. Until i got a tatula sv tw in hand. At first i didnt like it, until i watched one of the daiwa pros explain the differences in the daiwas and how to use them. Then suddenly it was the best reel i had used, by far. The dc i had i came to dislike because it only had 4 or 5 brake settings and it backlashed badly compared to the brake setting, etc. So i sold it. Now 4 years later, every baitcaster i use is a daiwa. Tatulas, coastals, zillions, steez.

My steez is bomb. Got the a,and its beef cake, smooth, and the air brake is good for all casting. Long and short. I use it offshore, and up in hvy cover to pitch jigs and swimming worms in florida.💥👍

    • @mattthomen1608
      @mattthomen1608 7 місяців тому

@TUFFBASS I don't believe so. Mine is quiet and smooth through out the cast. Now the air brake works different, than a magnet brake, but has no clicking except for the drag system. I hope you get a good one. Mine has doubled my pitching distance, and makes for quiet entry of baits, which is key in shallow water.

I haven't broken into the JDM scene as of yet. Hope 2024 brings something with DC style braking, for a reasonable cost. I'd love to grab a Daiwa IMZ Limitbreaker, but the cost keeps it a distant dream.
