- Just what is the factor theorem exactly? Well, in this short video I will walk you through the factor theorem using an example so that you can understand how to factor a polynomial using the factor theorem.
The factor theorem allows us to factor polynomials by finding factors that make the function equal to zero. We need to substitute in factors of the constant term of the polynomial function until we get zero. This tells us a binomial that the polynomial is factorable by!
From this point you can apply synthetic division or polynomial long division to factor the polynomial fully!

If the coefficients a+b+c+d=0 then x-1 is a factor.
