- In this fly tying tutorial Cheech ties an awesome Zonker Variation!
The Zonker minnow is a fly pattern that has been around for about as long as flyfishing has been around. For all you historians who are going to google right now, that was a joke and you’re supposed to laugh. Ha ha.
Now that that is out-of-the-way, I will also say that I do realize that this is not the original pattern. This is simply a Zonker “style” minnow using rabbit over the back to make it move really well in the water. The next step is up to you to modify this bug to fit your fishing situation, whether that be making it larger or smaller, lighter or heavier, or in whatever color that you would like to fish.
