Honestly they could've just made the bot say "Yep" every single move while mixing in a couple of "sure" and "is this theory" and it'd be believable already.

I never understood how they could feasibly program bots to have accurate human ratings...
If you think about it, it actually must be insanely difficult to program a bit that *doesn't* play perfect chess every time.
How do you choose which blunders and mistakes it makes? How do you program it's level of accuracy without being entirely random, or just unbelievably based by seeing every move in advance?
I would imagine in a way, it's actually harder to program a bot to play at a certain rating than it is to program it to find and play the best move every single time.
It's crazy because you can be playing even just a 1600 bot and it makes a move and you go "I don't get it", 7 moves later every one of your pieces is hanging even though you were +5...
Any time an engine plays a move you don't understand, your butthole should tighten up a bit.

I think the bot is meant to be played with a classical or at least rapid time control or better even without time so that you can really think. I think it plays on a level that a 2600 rated human would play in classical. The bot always plays immediately so that you don't have to wait. The computer can play immediately at a 2600 level but Eric in blitz can't play on a 2600 classical level so he loses and his bot seems too strong. If the bot replicates his strength accurately Eric should score 50% on average when playing slowly. So it's no wonder he lost two games in a row when playing fast. Two games are also not enough statistics to say the bot be too strong. Although I agree that the talking and opening choices could be easily improved.
