These two did not half ass anything! Great to see real dedication and craftsmanship. This guy has a ton of skills for how young he looks. I was looking at an 86 Coachman (identical to this) and it picked up a g30 instead. The process seems daunting. Videos like this are inspiring. They make it seem infinitely easier than it really is.
Thanks! We put a slide out porta-potty under the counter so there is a bathroom if needed, especially at night. There are gas stations and other public restrooms all over so it was never a problem.
A majority of the planet does not understand or appreciate the resourcefulness, amount of skill, craftsmanship, knowledge, preplanning and mechanics, that went into this. I thought I was pretty handy. That was amazing. Blown away. Any one can plan, anyone can paint, maybe measure and cut accurately but the details and with no electrician, no plumber, no mechanic, no glazer. These are the most skilled individuals I have ever seen in my life. Real life Macgyver! Can you change your car seats? Can you do the plumbing and wire the electric? All with superior craftsmanship? Yeah? How about change the tranny? Gtfo. You can only be the expert and best at one thing or know a little about everything. These people are experts and are the best at everything. Show me your video if you think you even come anywhere near the skill these 2 displayed. I never seen it. Highly skilled. They hit all the trades known to man. Except welding. Had no help! I need to meet you. Probably some rocket scientist and quantum physicists but even they wouldn't know how to use all those tools and do this with that amount of skill
What a great video! Thanks for sharing. I'm one year into my first pop up camper. Its a 93 and nothing like what you guys have, but your video gives me ideas and the willingness to do some renovating. Love it!
Bro! Definite huge points on this build! I was like, why is the dude pulling the brake pedal to change the carpet, then BAM! My man shows up with a double stomper to make this girl a shiftie! LOVE IT!!!!! 22R is a great engine, gutless without the bump stick though!
Not sure how you have two thumbs down... This was an amazing job... You have really inspired me to gut my travel trailer and do a total renovation... Enjoy life on the open roads... Blessings to the both of you...
We are at the tail end of our "down to the studs" RV renovation. I can truly appreciate what you guys did. You have got some great counter space there!
I have an 88 fiat campervan, I've just bought it and it's completely standard... Im so overwhelmed on where to start!! I'm going to watch your video slowly in parts to get ideas :)
WOW beautiful work, I just bought....actually picking up a 1990 Toyota Dolphin today and I can't wait to get started on it, I won't be doing all the work you guys did but you gave me some great ideas, thanks so much for taking the time to share your work with us. Peace and Good Vibes
Absolutely 100% pure beautiful pride witnessed produced from a young couple that explode their love together thru energy cooperation investment and work. May long continue their life journey together and also mileage made towards wonderful memories.
Wow, big job, BIG. Great Covid project. We bought a /92 ford, 28’. I’m thinking we need to do the same reno. Yours looks fantastic. You did go further than I need to as far as mechanical. Our “motor” part is great it’s just the “home” part that sucks, lol.
I really enjoyed discovering y'alls channel and watching this rv renovation today! Keep up the good work and i look forward to watching more of y'alls videos.
We did remove some of the old floor that was rotted and replaced it with new wood. Then we layed a new layer of 1/2" plywood over the entire floor for extra stability.
awesome vid man. its nice to actually see someone who knows what there doin. only thing i would of done different is i wouldn't have used SharkBite fittings on every connection. crimped pex fittings hold better especially in a area with movement to prevent leaking. plus standard crimp fittings are way cheaper!
Really appreciate it! It was an awesome learning experience. We never had a single leak with the push to connect fittings so I'm definitely a fan of them. First time working with pex or doing anything like that. I think there will be another adventure build in the future!
Why did you do the mechanical work last? Wouldn’t you want to change out the transmission first to make sure the truck was good before putting all that work in?
We already knew the truck ran and drove just fine before we started the renovation. The transmission swap was not necessary so we waited until the end to see if it was still something we wanted to do or had time to do before our trip.
You guys did an awesome job on restoring that RV.. I have a question though I noticed the doors that were on the outside as for the ventilation for the refrigerator and the furnace have now been covered over what are you doing as far as heat and refrigeration ventilation... Maybe I missed something in the video
Thanks you! As for the heater, it vents straight out the bottom through its own exhaust since it is a diesel heater. And for the fridge ventilation, it only requires a few inches of space around it. It doesn't need the same ventilation as the older style refrigerators.
Now I have one singular question why did you trade out the ac for another fan? Otherwise though great vid unless the area you live in doesn't get to hot which then I guess it makes sense to get rid of
Great question. With all the windows and 2 fans, one pushing and one pulling, it honestly stayed very comfortable in there. The main reason we didn't do ac is because we designed it to be off grid and the type of traveling we do, we don't plug in or have the on-board power to run an ac unit. If we were to do it again though, I'd make sure it was pre-wired for an ac unit just in case. We also didn't carry a generator. Overall, we didn't have any issues without it.
@@WilsonsAdrift ahhh that actually makes alot of sense that in my mind I'd say is a good choice but just to be safe always have some sort of backup power generator
If this isn't too personal, around how much was the renovation for just the interior living space? Not including the transmission swap. Thanks in advance
Did you restore any engines or mechanical things? I want to buy a old rv and restore it. Is it posssible to make it work brand new after restoration? Potentially a life long vehicle?
Well if you are buying an older rv you can absolutely rebuild everything including all mechanical work and it could last you a very long time. The only thing I would say about that is in the end, it's still old technology and an old design. They have made a lot of improvements over the years in comfort, reliability and safety. Our Toyota Sunrader was a 1985 and although we replaced a lot of parts and you could say it was "new" but in the end, it still drove like a 1985 Toyota.
Great question! So we weighed the rv before and after the remodel and if I remember correctly, we were right at the same weight if not 200-300 pounds lighter. Just the 2 house batteries we added were 180 pounds. And we ended up with a lot more fresh water capacity. It was right around 6400 pounds loaded up.
We used Pettit Epoxy paint. Just one gallon of their primer and one gallon of paint. It worked awesome! If you watch our painting video, you can see more of our process 😊
I have a trailer am bout demo and reconstruct as well..thanks for d inspiration!!! U guys did an amazing job!!!!! Can I ask what insulation u guys used?
Wow a Toyota RV. How many miles and how is the engine running? Just picked up an ‘88 Winnebago super chief and I’m not too psyched to have to do some work on a GM product. The renovation will be fun except for dealing with the electrical systems and assessing any rodent damage. But that’s par for the course with a 36 year old house on wheels.
@@WilsonsAdrift I mean like switching from apartment living to RV living? I'm looking into it now and trying to decide if I should go full time? Just wanted a general opinion overall ! Thanks!
That's a great question. Honestly, it really depends on the person and their situation. Overall, we were happy to be full time on the road. It's been a dream for the both of us and to finally make it happen felt so liberating. We saved enough that we didn't need to work while on the road which helped us with the freedom we were after. There are so many great things about living on the road but it doesn't come without its challenges. Finding a place to camp every night proved to be difficult at times. Traveling during the pandemic made it hard to plan for things as a lot of things were shut down or half open but still full priced. We were able to visit friends and family while on the road but when you are not visiting those people, it can get a little lonely being in a new place and not knowing anyone. We enjoyed our few months on the road but now we are happy to have a home base again. We can still travel but we have a place we can always call home. In the end, I don't think you will regret trying it out. You can always find a place to settle down if you don't like the full time thing. :)

Good call switching out that automatic transmission for a manual. But, I would always be worrying about where the next restroom is.
Thanks! We put a slide out porta-potty under the counter so there is a bathroom if needed, especially at night. There are gas stations and other public restrooms all over so it was never a problem.
Far better than most repair videos. I would say the exterior needs a bit more flair though.
Van is actually better shape than most videos. Not much rotten wood.
