Gambia’s youth grassroots football investment pays off with U20 AFCON success

Despite challenges with local infrastructure, Gambia’s Spurse Football Club is seeing large numbers of youth turning up to train and improve their football skills. The youth hope excelling at the sport will help them escape poverty and emulate the success of the nation’s under-20 side, the Young Scorpions, who made it to the final of the U-20 Africa Cup of Nations.
