Another awesome and very informative video Dan! I think most of us are guilty for not practicing enough with our safety equipment and your very right the time to figure it out isn’t when your buddy is under the snow. It’s funny that when you said that Canadians (me being one) have been doing this for years and Americans need to catch up reminded me of a trip to Montana with a group of Americans way back in the 90’s. We were getting geared up to go out for the day when our American riding group saw us putting on helmets and laughed and then asked us where the race was that we were going too! Lol keep up the great videos we all appreciate your talent and advice to make us better riders and to also survive the ride!!!
Awesome video. As someone getting back into the sport it’s great to understand the importance of avalanche awareness! We look up to you guys for your riding knowledge and abilities and I greatly respect the fact that you are taking the time to communicate that this is just as important! Thanks Dan
Great video! Really like the riding/technical videos, but we can't forget about the everyday choices that will make sure that we get to ride again the next day. No such thing as too much education. Never enough promotion of having the right gear, training, AND practice. Well done.
Awesome video! Thanks for the Chic-Choc shout out.. most people don't take avy safety seriously in Gaspésie but its real, they get the snow they get the wind and they have the slopes!
Once again you put out another great video! Very informative and thought provoking. We have had our share of incidents up here in Canada this year also and it really makes you think before you go out and ride. I personally have been constantly adding tools to my pack to help in bad situations, a lot of them because of your videos and others like them. Keep up the great work!
Appreciate you guys taking the time to make these videos, I find them informative and motivating. Been procrastinating about doing ast1, but you guys make a great point about setting yourself up for success. At the end of the day, just want to come home alive to my family.
AMAZING VIDEO DAN! Keep up the hard work on the videos! There is a prodigious amount of useful information in this video, that I will be sure to remember and exercise in the future. Currently, planning a trip out to Colorado for the end of March; I will definitely be using this information out there! Safe riding, I'm excited about next week's video!
Excellent question !! Lithium batteries are designed to give off a constant steady power through out their life until there's none left. At that point, they drop off to nothing. Alkaline batteries gradually drop off as they get older/used up. A weak signal from a beacon will old alkaline batteries that are still giving off even a small amount of energy can be detected ! (Dan reminded me of this, in class last year).
lets take our cell phones for example, notice how when they get freezing cold they shut off or at the very least it kills the battery super fast? its a trait of the lithium batts, alkaline batts function better in the cold. lets face it, when do we actually use a beacon ?
Being new to the sport and not having a ton of experience and a HUGE interest in learning to ride in the backcountry. Which sled would you recommend for a mid-western with an interest in riding in the backcountry?
Great video Dan, learned a lot, same with your other recent videos. I need to take a level 1 avy class. On another note you shop setup is sweet. Off topic, but what brand is the rolling tool cart behind your right arm around 30 seconds?
Hi Dan- great videos. I’ve taken a level 1 course and building my equipment inventory. Say you’re riding on a slope and an avalanche starts; after deploying your airbag, what’s the first thing you should do?
Hey bud thanks for watching!! After deploying my air bag I would attempt to get to the flanks or sides of the slide. Staying out of the mass is key so trying to outrun a slide can be your worst move. Get to the sides and make a plan from there. Thanks again
Are you referring to Alkaline vrs lithium? We want to use alkaline batteries in our transceivers because they have more of a gradual fall off unlike lithium batteries which are easily affected by cold and can decrease in power very rapidly. Thanks for watching and ride safe!
@@NextLevelRidingClinics appreciate the reply but i believe you are still wrong. Alk batteries are electrolyte filled and will be effected by temps below 0, more effected when when the charge is lower as it effects the chemisty and freezes easy. where disposable lithium batteries are rated for -40. a quick google and you will find the same results from multiple sources.
i need a budget sled shop lol i just got this sled and rmk 700 indy i might not be sleding that bites well maybe i find some donations of gear ,i rather be safe ,15 yrs since ive been im need to sled , its like a drug and im not quitting lol
NOW THAT'S WHAT I CALL A REAL INSTRUCTOR,A REAL WINNER.THATS THE KIND OF PERSON TO HANG AROUND WITH, HE'S A REAL POSITIVE WINNER!
Don't worry about the audio, still got the message!
Haha thanks.

Awesome video! Thanks for the Chic-Choc shout out.. most people don't take avy safety seriously in Gaspésie but its real, they get the snow they get the wind and they have the slopes!
Thanks Jason. I think we all need to take avy safety a bit more seriously.
Thank you for everything you teach us, we have no excuse for not learning to save a life.
This video can save lives...Thanks for information Dan.

Outstanding and informative - cudos!!
Thanks Billy. Stay safe out there.
Maybe this is a dumb question. But why is it better to use alkaline batteries?

Do a belt deflection video!
Check out the 5 free tips for the 850 and the preseason maintenance video. We talk about belt deflection in both of those.

Thanks for watching Ron, Im not even sure what brand that cart is. We have had it forever.

I don't ride mountains, but I love the video lol
haha thanks for watching
Very good 👍👍
Thanks for watching
why do you say that about the batteries? i believe its opposite

What smart phone apps do you recommend for avalanche and snow forecasts?
I think BCA offers one.

we need to talk more about avalanches. if we dont get our shit together the gvmnt is going to get involved and they never do things right
That could happen for sure.
Dan do you guys do avalanche safety classes like you mentioned in the vid at nxtlvl?
Yes we do Avalanche Awareness classes, check out our website for more info: www.nextlevelclinics.com/
Great video as always but please don’t talk about sledding in Japan. Trying to keep it secret...
lol, we hear it is really good. We need to come there someday.
Next Level Riding Clinics: If you do I’ll get you an exclusive ride on the Enticer AlphaHawk. Truly next level.
Nope, don't have a stick, Klim gear or a take charge attitude. Luckily I don't ride on mountains.
