My mother in law got her luggage “lost” when she arrived to Cancun , Mexico. They told her they located the suitcase and would deliver it to her hotel personally. They gave it back 5 days later just one day before she was flying back and they made sure to deliver it to lobby staff instead of giving it to her personally like they claim they would so she could inspect it. When she opened her suitcase every valuable item was gone. Perfume, designer bag, the best shoes and sandals they found, gone. Happened to me with Hawaiian Airlines on Dec. 18. Traveled to Las Vegas for my son's college graduation, 3 pieces of luggage didn't arrive at baggage claim. I made a report and Hawaiian Airlines couldn't tell me where my bags were for 2 days. I received an email and not a phone call to let me know my bags were on another flight to Vegas. I got my bags delivered the morning of day 3. I filed a claim with Hawaiian to get reimbursed for necessities we had to purchase while waiting for our luggage. Submitted the claim on Dec. 27 and I have not received any confirmation or communication from Hawaiian Airlines saying it is being processed. Sent and email directly to Peter Ingram and still no communication back. Poor customer service.

I watched the guy squeeze in a couple of pieces of luggage into his sedan. It was no easy task, but he then has to take that luggage and route it out. This time might have been third party but I have had stuff go missing on direct flights when there was zero chance of confusion. Once a female employee was “helping” to speed a long line and told me my bag was overweight and I had to remove some stuff. I opened the bag to take out a coat - and apparently she liked what she saw because when I checked the bag in Chicago it mysteriously disappeared. They paid me pennies on the dollar for my wardrobe, etc. I suspect it is a huge ring. Also the stores that they have to sell unclaimed luggage are disgusting. I’ve also had to pay a hefty fee once or twice to have my bag checked AFTER boarding the plane because it didn’t fit the cubbies although it fit in those practice cubbies they have at check-in. A few years ago I said forget it, I’m never doing carry-ons anymore. Well it appears the only solution is to completely avoid flying. This happened to me last week on Delta! Our flight got cancelled after we checked in at the airport. There were no more flights available for 4 days so we did not rebook. We waited over 24hrs for our bags to be pulled for us, my AirTag showed they were still at the gate. The next day we got a notification that they were being shipped to Florida… without us. So we had to scramble, get in the car, and drive from Michigan to Tampa to get our bags.

They obviously have 1 or 2 dirty baggage Handlers on the inside who's stealing them and probably handing them off to someone else in the airport or outside the airport. Definitely some baggage smuggling ring going on there at that airport. This should most definitely be investigated and broken up and arrest those responsible.

FINALLY. I’m glad these airlines are finally getting their due and people are exposing their terrible service. People always make snide comments about “crazy customers” - THIS IS WHY THEY ARE CRAZY. Because employees gaslight HARD even when they are clearly in the wrong. 1 out of 10 of those people is going to punch you in the face. 🤷🏽‍♀️ Maybe that’s wrong, but we really need to start focusing on the fact that is what ALL 10 are dealing with! People pay 100s of $ to get on planes. Try treating them that way. It’s not a city bus!

I pack a carry-on army-style and will use a self-serve laundry/laundry or dry cleaning service at my destination if needed. Haven't had to yet, but I can see myself shipping items ahead of me to avoid checking baggage - don't plan to do it ever.

Not about luggage, but I had the worst experience with United once when flying with my 5mo old baby alone. This was years ago and I was sadly too young and naive to stick up for myself or complain after, but when they started calling passengers to load onto the other plane, they never asked for people with small kids first. Ok that was fine I guess. Weird but I’ll wait. But when my section was called, I had my hands completely full with my baby, bag and stroller. None of the attendants bothered to offer help. I asked one if they could help me carry my stroller to the end, and the lady looked at her coworker and CHUCKLED AT ME. She told me no and that they weren’t actually required to help with this kind of thing! When I asked her what I was supposed to do because I had my baby, she told me I’d have to see if another passenger would be kind enough to help me. I was so angry and hurt and my eyes welled with tears, I will never forget it. I looked behind me in line at this guy crying at this point because of how mean these two United attendants were and basically begged him to help me. You could tell he didn’t really want to but felt bad enough so he carried it down for me. Me and my baby were sick on top of it and it was one of the worst days of my life probably. I wish to this day I’d written a letter or something to United back then, and this was 14 years ago. I still can’t believe it happened or why really. Some people are so cruel. But I vowed never to fly United again after that.

I'm so sorry you had this experience. I had one very similar. I was flying alone with our twins to see their dad at 13 months, and there was no assistance...NONE. After waddling down the jet bridge alone and getting 1 baby out and the car seat out and everything broken down, the attendant also chuckled at me when I wasn't able to grab the sanitizing wipe because I was holding one baby and carrying another one in the car seat trying to get into our seat... He just put the wipe on the baby in the car seat (which my baby immediately grabbed and put into his mouth), and said "WOW, have a great flight!" LIKE REALLY...HELP ME GUY, or keep your silly wipe!!! It doesn't help that from desk check in - required for lap infants - to TSA (not United's fault) to the gate agents, and flight attendants everyone EVERYONE asked if I had another adult, or made a comment about how much easier it'd be if I had another adult...no crap krusty crab! Think I haven't figured that out by now! ...It's 2022 (at the time this all happened) people can fly as single parents and if I'm not a single parent why I'm alone is NONE of your business! United is absolutely horrible to fly with small kids. For anyone reading this who has travel coming....We travel a lot. Spirit by far was the 100% best...weird right! Then Delta, BIIIGGGG gap then American and United at the bottom bottom. Thank you for sharing your experience, and again I'm sorry this happened. I thought I was the only one and was missing something but NOPE seems like they are just terrible.

Probably a good lesson in what isn't worth getting upset about, although I see that this was years ago so probably not the case in this instance. However you probably packed better on the way home in case there was no one to help you.

@@hah5663 It happened on a flight home from Denver, CO to Allentown, PA. It was when I was 15 during high school and my parents planned the trip. We have family friends that live just west of Denver. Naturally it was during the stormy season there in the summer. I remember hysterically laughing when we took one of the roads up one of the least highest mountains. Its the only peak you can drive to by access road. I remember laughing because it was July and there was snow and I asked my dad to pull the rental car over so I could throw a snowball at him. I have a photo that my mom took too. I was wearing my school soccer hoodie at the time. I have a picture at the top of that shorter peak too. I'll happy prove my trip to you by uploading a compiling of photos from the trip on youtube tomorrow when I'm at my parents house.
Literally the whole Denver airport was shut down because it was a major lightning storm and our bags never made it on the plane. We were delayed an hour or so. The moment the airport reopened, they hurried everyone on the plane and our bags hadn't made it to the plane because they couldn't be driven initially by the baggage handlers to the gate since the whole airport was stopped. By the time they hurried us on the plane, they decided to leave and the baggage driver didnt get to the gate in time. We didnt know this until we landed in Allentown and our bags weren't there. We live an hour north of the airport so we were told they would be on the next flight from Denver to Allentown and then their driver would bring it to my parents. I was kinda worried because at that age, I was a crystal and rock collector as well as a postcard collector (I have those too for proof of my trip) and I was worried I lost all my souvenirs. The next day we were called by Delta at Allentown that our bags arrived and the driver was leaving with them. They emailed my dad a link that tracked the vehicle in real time like UPS can. When we knew they were close, I remember waiting in my parents living room for the van. When i pulled up to the house, me and my dad went outside to bring the bags in and my dad tipped the guy 20 dollars (only bill he had other than 1s). The van was a white van with the delta triangle logo on the side and it said Delta on it
Also delta is known for losing the least amount of bags each year. United is the worst for losing bags
