What makes you think, people in Kerala, especially such singers, don’t understand or speak Hindi, our national language. We have been listening to these songs earlier from Ceylon first then Srilanka Broadcasting Corp since the 50’s/60’s and now on the Internet. And understanding Urdu is a part of this. Don’t you see the large older enthusiastic audience for each one of Saurav’s performances. Most/all of these performances have been held in Kerala. Today you can speak Hindi in most of Kerala and get away with it. Proud to be a malayalee!!!

Hindi is taught in all of Kerala schools from Class 5 up as third language, though you can choose other languages as Sanskrit etc. most choose to study Hindi. In addition through Movies and TV also most of them are exposed to Hindi. And Kerala populace doesn't hold any apathy to Hindi. When Saurav, Aryananda etc. claims they do not know Hindi, they are not fluent enough to converse in Hindi.
