This story is not very well told. The story is just being told to fill in a certain anti Turkish narrative that is a little deviant from the reality that took place.
They are missing the part where the Poland-Lithuanian common wealth disintegrated and fell apart a few years later and what happened to Poland after that.
The truth is little did the Poles know that in a few years later Poland would disintegrate and fall into complete chaos. And when that happened Austria, Prussia and Russia all invaded, annexed, swallowed up and partitioned Poland among themselves. Then what? Guess who was the only one who protested against this act of treachery against Poland and the Polish people? Guess who called the leaders of all these countries a bunch of snakes for taking advantage Poland by carving it amongst themselves like a bunch of thieves
      It was the Ottoman Sultan.
He was the only one who resisted and protested against their treachery against Poland.
So basically Poland saved a bunch of countries who later invaded them and swallowed them up for hundreds of years. Because of their treachery Poland would not exist again as a nation until 1918 and the Polish people had to live under the yoke and the rule of the Germans, Austrians and Russians for over 250 years.
The only one who stood against this treachery were the Ottomans.

In the Greek schools we learned about this Extremely Important Battle. We consider Janos Sobieski and his Polish Knights(together with Prince Eugene) among the Saviors of Western Civilization, just like Leonidas with his 300 Spartans, and Alexander the Great. i know that later, the other leaders did not give them proper credit, BUT History gives those Great Polish Warriors, Eternal Glory and Reverence.

There is a memorial on the hill where the hussars charged down, but it is only a small inscription. The city of vienna did not want to build a bigger memorial because they feared to anger the in Vienna living turkish community, how ironic. After more research, besides the 3 inscriptions on the hill, 3 streets and one house is named after Sobieski and there was indeed a statue of him, but that got destroyed in ww2. And besides Sobieski, there are memorials for Franz Kolschitzky and Stanislaw Potocki, 2 other polish combatants. So not so bad after all.

Only 85 years later (in1768) Austrians teamed with Prussians and Russians to invade Poland, their saviours in Vienna. The trio invaded the whole of the country and annihilated Poland as an independent state in 1795. Ottomans condenmned this invasion and set war against Russia to deliver independence to Poland but lost the war so couldn't help Poles. During the following decades many of Poland's army officers and intellectuals refuged to Ottomans who gave them shelter and established settlements for them, one of which (Polonezkoy) still remains and is inhabitated by Polish people in Istanbul. Istanbul became the center for commanders of Polish resistance. C'est lavie!

    • @TheAustrianAnimations87
      @TheAustrianAnimations87 Рік тому +15

Austria was actually never really interested to join the partitions, but had no other choice as Russia & Prussia would've done it anyway and were far more powerful than Austria combined. Let's not forget the fact that Austria tried to restore Poland's independence in 1815 (see the Polish Saxon Crisis during the Congress of Vienna), but guess who opposed Austria's idea. Austria also condemned Russia's brutality in the 1863 Polish uprising and later gave them full autonomy, something which didn't exist in Russia and the new German Empire. So no, Austria "never" betrayed Poland, considering they still treated the Poles far better than the other two.

as far as I remember, 112 or 113 Poles hit ottoman's army just to test enemy- they all volunteered. 48 of them, including commander were killed. Remaining hussars went back to the king and they joined battle again under king's direct command (Sobieski led the main charge). It was a biggest honour they could get. The most of them survived the battle. Just to clarify- Sobieski let over 18000 people in the charge, this included 3000 winged hussars leading the charge and easily braking ottoman's lines. After that, real slaughter had started...

Not all of them are warriors, but yeah most of them have the warrior nature. In fact, in general, Slavic people are willing to fight, not kneel. The concept of honor comes from our childhood. My father, like many of my generation, raised me in this way: when you fought and lost, you got hit not because of attention at school or problems with the police, but because you got beaten, hehe. It was scary to even think about giving up without a fight, it was shame and loss of honor. Maybe it's a sick approach, but before the partitions, young Poles, at the age of 6, went under their father's wing and then they started having a real hardcore upbringing, there was no pain here (1) fencing was a basic skill back then, even in the inn or the Sejm, we didn't need war for it hahaha 2 ) horse riding as above, the basics, they did not clash only with tinsmiths from the west, but much more often with people brought up on horses and with bows from the eastern steppes, or with the one of the best infantries like Cossacks ,
or Jannisaries 3) Of course, learning (a lot of languages, rhetoric was even there, and many others school subjects . Here Western universities, especially Italian ones, led the way). Later, it was known that whenever there was a war or rokosz( rebelion against King) in the country, there was someone to cut things and knew how to do it. Despite everything that is currently happening to young people, I still see hope in young Poles...

My Uncle fought against the Germans AND Russians in WWII. At the age of 14 he was abducted from his Polish village, of Kvanchenek, by the Gestapo and spent the remainder of WWII in German work camps repairing German infrastructure. He spent 5 years moving from camp to camp, until the camps were liberated by the Allies. He was fortunate enough to be liberated by US troops and quickly joined the US occupation army.
Despite his ordeal, he hated Russians more than his German captors. Russians defiled every country that they occupied. Stalin killed 60 million of his own countrymen, including members of his own family.

Poland, which was carved up into three-pieces by Russia, Austria-Hungary, and Prussia in the 1800's and completely disappeared as a nation, began the uprising against the local Communist administration which, eventually, led to the downfall of the Soviet Union itself (I attended a Solidarity demonstration at the Manitoba Legislature in early winter many years ago) is so good to see them back on the world's stage and standing tall, proud and having a productive economy.

I am from Britain and I honour the Polish nation for their great bravery and determination to be a free nation and their help to Britain in the hour of our greatest need. 1940
A joint attack on the Republic of Poland by Nazi Germany and the Soviet Union marked the beginning of World War II and Britain declared war on Germany (September 1939)
8,500 Polish airmen escaped to Britain. Chuchill declared "We shall conquer together or we shall die together” and two Polish RAF fighter wings; No. 302 ‘Poznan’ Squadron and No. 303 ‘Kosciuszko’ Squadron were established.
On August 30, 303 Squadron were carrying out training manoeuvres over Hertfordshire when Flying Officer Ludwik Paszkiewicz spotted a large formation of German bombers and fighters. Paszkiewicz radioed his Squadron Leader Ronald Kellet with the words “Hullo, Apany Leader, bandits at 10 o’clock.” When Kellet did not respond, Paszkiewicz broke formation and charged a Messerschmitt Me-110 and in the ensuing dogfight he and another Hurricane pilot shot the German plane down in flames.
This episode was later immortalised in the ‘Repeat Please’ scene from the Battle of Britain film (1969). On his return to base Paszkiewicz was severely reprimanded for ill-discipline and then congratulated for making the squadron’s first kill.
The next day, August 31st, 303 Squadron went into action and during just 15 minutes of combat managed to down 6 Messerschmitts without any losses. In a peculiar twist of fate, 303 Squadron’s first day in combat came exactly one year after the Nazi invasion of Poland. In the following weeks the Squadron notched up dozens of downed enemy aircraft and hundreds of sorties. In just 42 days 303 Squadron shot down 126 German planes, becoming the most successful Fighter Command unit in the Battle of Britain. Nine of the Squadron’s pilots qualified as ‘aces’ for shooting down 5 or more enemy planes, including Sergeant Josef Frantisek, a Czech flying with the Poles who scored 17 downed planes. Overall the Squadron scored nearly three times the number of kills of the average British fighter squadron with one third the casualty rate. In fact, the Polish record was so impressive that Stanley Vincent, the RAF commander of the base at Northolt, took it upon himself to verify their claims.
Following the squadron into combat Vincent witnessed how the Poles dived at the German bombers in their Hurricanes ‘with near suicidal impetus’. On landing back at base Vincent exclaimed ‘My God, they are doing it’. Indeed, the success of the Poles was partly due to their preference for charging enemy formations and only opening fire at close quarters - a far cry from the RAF’s squadron manoeuvre tactics which were abandoned and the Polish tactic adopted. One RAF pilot noted with admiration ‘When they go tearing into the enemy bombers and fighters they go so close you would think they were going to collide’.
In total 31 out of the 145 Polish pilots who took part in the Battle of Britain died in action, while the Polish War Memorial at RAF Northolt commemorates 1903 personnel killed in the War over all. During some of the most desperate points of the Battle of Britain, the RAF had ‘only 350 pilots to scramble, of which nearly 100 were Poles’.
Yet at the end of the war Polish troops were not allowed to participate in the Allied Victory Parade so as not to aggravate Joseph Stalin. But without the two squadrons of Poles, it is quite possible that there would not be a Britain.
I posted this because of my shame at the betrayal of Poland to Stalin.
This time we will not make the same mistake.

The banner charged through half of the Turkish army, and cobfirmed that there was no obstacles for the main charge of whole army. They suffered heavy losses, 25-30%, but managed to get back to the king. They got so close to Kara Mustafas tent that he was within pustol shoot range. Commander, lieutenant Zbierzchowski (it was a very high rank among hussars) survived. Then, in agreement with Russia and Germany, he took away Poland's freedom for 123 years, during which the Polish population was Germanized and Russified. This is a fragment of an article from one of the historical magazines (if you are interested, I can give you a link): "After the battle, Emperor Leopold did not show respect to King Jan Sobieski, his son, Jakub or the Polish banners. The Austrians stopped providing provisions to Polish soldiers and did not agree to bury the fallen in Vienna, showing the Poles the cemeteries where the Turks were buried. Many Poles were resentful and indignant at the attitude of the Austrians. Such behavior of the recent ally made many ordinary soldiers regret later that the relief of Vienna had taken place at all.". I was wrong, the soldiers were allowed into Vienna, but it was forbidden to bury the dead in the city, so you were right. sorry for the mistake, I'm editing the main comment.

To mitigate this problem, Morawiecki is asking the European Union to build the transit infrastructure so grains will be distributed fairly in other European countries. Poland took a few million Ukrainian refugees and supported them. This is really disgusting that Zelensky is criticizing the Polish government instead of talking to other EU members and the USA to buy Ukrainian grain. the main enemy were always the Germans - and partitions happened when Germans controlled all three thrones with their "triple-H" dynasties: Habsburg, Hohenzollern and Holstein and stopped fighting between them, focusing on destroying the Slavic Commonwealth. Moscow throne was taken by the German princess (born in Stettin) who murdered last of Romanovs and established her own lineage continuing the Holstein dynasty. Generally princesses were German export goods to all the thrones in Europe, that's why destroying the Commonwealth went so smoothly and Poles could later count only on the post-revolutionary French. Austria sent troops during the Deluge to help Poland before 1683, later Maria Theresia took part in the partition only because it was a political necessity. Otherwise Russia and Prussia would have become tpo powerful, and Austria couldnt risk a war against them. Habsburg monarchy was relativly tolerant and the polish had many rights in Galicia. There were even reform plans to introduce trialism: Austria-Hungary-Poland. Real history is much more complicated and grey than nationalism makes it appear sometimes. Polands main enemy was probably their own nobility who weakened the state and sold their crown.

@@Aranubis You're mixing old monarchic pre-nationalistic times with the second half of the 19th century, where germanization and russification simply started to be institutionalized. Austria lost the competition for being "the main Germany" to Berlin, and behaved slightly less brutally - could even form a multiethnic state with Hungarians and Slavs. Still, Germans are Germans, and promoted German nationalism.
The opinion that "Poles did this to themselves" is simple repeating anti-Slavic Bismarck-type propaganda and there is nothing else to comment on that. The "real history" is rather relatively simple, and is easier to understand if you just look at it from geopolitical point of view, not emotionally and irrationally.

The word hussar first appears in a codex of King Matthias Hunyadi. There it is written that the Serbian cavalry in the southern parts of the country were called so, because they only use a curved sword (sabja) and change their position quickly because they are not in armour. It was then that the famous Royal Hungarian mercenary, 'Black Army', was formed, where Czechs, Germans, Croats and Serbs also fought. The Hungarians were a minority in the army, deliberately, because it was easier for them to be taxed the population of the country... Then it was the best army in Europe. Don´t forget that Spain was fighting almost alone Otoman Empire in Mediterranean sea 150 years before this. France open their ports to Otoman fleets and Venice or Papal States not always helped the Christianity. We helped Viena in 1683 and the very important siege of Malta in 1565... but never forget the glorious battle of Lepanto (1571), Spanish Tercios in small galleys fighting and destroying the Otoman´s fleet with Andrea Doria and Papal States, maybe the last Crusade. Don Miguel de Cervantes lost his hand in this battle.

It was a fight about power and not about religion. The ottomans fight the spanish and germans both french enemys at that time.

Three times... did 🇵🇱 save Europe from becoming unrecognizable.
First, the Golden Orde which destroyed Kievan Rus.
    Second - Vienna
Third - 1920 war against the 🇷🇺 Red Army marching to join 6,5 million communists in 🇩🇪.
🇵🇱 was defeated only when attacked simultaneously from all sides.
In 1939 it was attacked by allied forces of 🇩🇪 and 🇷🇺. No wonder 🇵🇱 had to basically force 🇩🇪 and 🇫🇷 to support 🇺🇦 after other countries joined support.

Then a few years later when the Poland-Lithuanian commonwealth broke apart and disintegrated the Austrians, the Germans and Russians all invaded and partitioned Poland among themselves like a bunch of thieves.
Guess who was the only one to call them out and complain about their utter treachery against Poland?
It was the Ottoman sultan. 😂

I guess that wasn't the kind of prize the Poles were expecting to get in return for defeating Turks and helping those you mentioned. The sultan of that time probably was worried that after gobbling up Poland those three would attack the territory the Ottomans had left in Europe.

And to thank Poles for saving Vienna and Europe from the Muslims, the Vienna Mayor recently refused to accept a statue made in and donated by Poland to commemorate this victory. The reason? Not to offend Muslims living in Austria. I kid you not. What times we live in...

Dude Muslim Tatars fought beside the Poles. Austria thanked Polish hussars by dividing their country into pieces. Those were Ottomans that welcomed Polish civilians as guests. Most of them chose to stay and keep their language, religion. Learn the facts.

@@sworial I'm Polish, so I know Polish history pretty well. yes - Tatars fought alongside Poles, AND Tatar refugees were welcomed to settle in the Polish territories. They were required to take part in battles alongside Polish units.
