This unit will run for approximately 6 hours on a full 20 lb. propane tank. FYI: The only way to get a completely full tank is when you bring your tank to a retail propane dealer, they will fill it up to 100% capacity. If you buy a refurbished 20 lb. tank at your local big box store, ace hardware etc., (you know, the one where you do a trade-in), those are only pre-filled to 75% of maximum capacity at their factory. So, with one of those, you will only get about 4 1/2 hours. You can take one of those refurbished tanks and have it filled at a propane dealer to 100%, if the date on the tank is not expired and is in good working condition, they will fill it up to it's maximum capacity which will get you back up to approximately 6 hours of run time. If you found this information helpful, give it a thumbs up so others will see it better.
Still relevant 1 year later. Just purchased my first generator and it just so happened to be this model. I know NOTHING about these machines 🤦🏻♀️ I just know I’m gonna need one. Thank you fort his video.
This regular person appreciates this video so much 😂. Just bought the 4650 and hoping it will run a portable A/C unit. Here in New Orleans the hurricane heat with no power for A/C is brutal! Thanks again, great video!
I had an interlock and had a proper receptacle put in last night with 50ft 30A power cord). I can confirm the wgen5300dfv will power 1500 sq ft, 2.5 ton ac (emergency heat), to include 2 refrigerators and chest freezer, and stove (at least one large burner running, just because) with propane. I have not run it hard yet due to wanting to break it in first before I run it hard. The ONLY time I heard a change in volume was when I turned on the burner. I am happy.
Thank you so much for making a video on this my husband and I could not figure out for the life of us what else we needed to do to run it on propane (honestly both of us with ADD we get overwhelmed with reading a big manual) but once I saw you cranked it I told my husband and it worked! I also ended up trying it myself for when he’s not around and it was so easy for me to turn on I could never turn on our previous generator.
Duel Fuel you're gonna need it! propane is fine in the summer but forget it in the winter unless you're hook up to a BIG tank, small tanks freeze up quickly in low temps...bottom line is don't count on Propane in the winter
This guy is a natural in many ways. Hey HGTV... This guy should have a show doing this kind of stuff. Thanks man for a great review. I do have the same question as another guy which is I wonder how long it runs on a 20Lb propane tank.
I bought mine early 2021 and I have been starting it every month, has ethanol free fuel in it, still starts between from 1 to 5 crank. Very reliable after one year.
Fantastic review thank you. I have just bought this today from Sam’s Club due to winter coming and a power outage this morning. Great to hear it is a nice and reliable easy to use generator - THANK YOU!!
I found out that it's important to own a solar generator along side a dual fuel generator. I had purchased a DuroMax XP12000EH awhile back not realizing that in some cases I need a generator that is whisper quiet through the night. Also. the full size fridge uses just 115-145 watts when the compressor is on. But, when the compressor is off the fridge is using zero watts. I bought the 2000Wh FFpower solar generator for $950. I can run my full size fridge for 14 hours straight and still have 30% charge remaining.
Good timing Just last month, we got hit by an EF3 and were left virtually without power (except for a generator that our friend loaned) for a weak And after that, my dad was considering getting a 10k+ watt multi fuel generator
We're so sorry to hear about the storm that crossed your home! If you or your dad is looking for a new multi-fuel generator, our WGen9500DF and WGen12000DF might just be a perfect fit for you since they both also run on gasoline and propane. Thanks for sharing!
Have a storm coming and after days without power last year I bought this exact model tonight. I don’t even have it in hand yet but this video was very helpful and really easy to follow. Thank you
When Katrina hit Long Island NY, power was out for a long long time. I had a gasoline generator and my brother had a propane only generator. the major differences I found was BIG #1, finding fuel. Being there was no electricity, gas stations were out of order. So waiting in lines to refill the machine were tedious. Propane lines were non existent. The propane seemed to start a lot more readily than the gas version. The Propane was just the top fuel, I would never go back If I was to buy another generator. Each 20lb tank would run for about 15-20 hours depending on load. and I had it wired into the house as well, with full fridge / water / tv lights etc. If someone is buying a new one I wouldn't recommend gas in any fashion.
@@gardenfork I didn't have a transfer panel, I had a more manual approach at the time. It was a emergency, So I split the panel in 1/2 and charged up that 120v portion. Killed the main breaker. It wasn't exactly "legit" but it worked for that 1 month or so time period.
That's why we love propane too! Always good to have a backup option just in case. Stories like yours are why we continue to make generators that people need and can depend on. Thanks for sharing!
I was living in Northern California during a wildfire a few years ago. The power was out all over the region. Gas stations couldn't pump gas. They were all closed. After that, my family & I ensure that we never go below a half tank. I found myself in a pinch where I couldn't find gasoline and was told the nearest open gas station was about an hour away and I feared running out before even getting there. Thanks, Mobius, for your run time on propane. I've been wondering about that. So I need at least two 20 lb tank.
Great review. Thanks for posting! I have the 9500DF. Can you confirm the following questions: -Noticed you were moving the choke each time you started. What's your recommendation on where it be before / after start? -With the gas stabilizer, you add to every tank of gas? -Don't leave gas in tank longer than 6 months? -Run at least once a month -Before storing you turn fuel shut off valve off, then run until it kills
I just came across this vid while looking at the specs of the generator. Its appears to be a great little generator but your video was the real gem of my search. You covered all the points that I was looking for and your personality coming through was icing on the cake.. actually, it was more cake than icing. I really enjoyed it. It kicked in right from the moment I saw your winch in the work shop. Love it! :-)
I just bought the 3600 model, just out of the box. I see are reviews for the bigger ones. This is my first generator purchase and I’m really just interested in powering a refrigerator and upright freezer. My entire house is electric which is kind of scary. I wish I could get my 220V well pump on a generator, hell I’d like to have my whole house hooked up. I hope this will do me for a while.

Hi, just purchased 1 from Sam's club. I know nothing about generators but wanted to have 1 this winter if the power goes out like it did last year while I was sick, my 2 yr old had pneumonia and my 1 yr old had a ear infection. I refuse to go through that struggle this year of trying to keep my children and I warm. My question is: I'm not able to hook up a transfer switch because I rent and know my landlord would not allow me to have 1 placed. Is there another option? The main reason I bought this was to run my electric fire place that runs at 1500 Watts and my refrigerator and if possible some small appliances like my microwave and some lamps. Is there a cord I could purchase that would allow me to utilize the camper plug and turn it into another outlet I can use?
@GardenFork question: When the L14-30 is not used for a tie-in at a power panel, can the 120V RV hookup and the 120V 5-20R outlets be used at the same time as the L14-30 outlet when this generator is switched to 240V? I have a generator cable that breaks down to (2) 120V circuits (L14-30 to (2) 5-20R 120V). It only works with the generator switch set to 240V, but then the two 120V circuits do not supply power.
I run our wgen3600df on 100% gasoline at 90 octane. Not the 10% ethanol, 87 octane gas you normally get at the pump. ethanol in the gas is what causes the problems. Non ethanol gas products are far better for long term storage.

turn off the choke after the engine starts running. thx! Eric.
Can you just add gas with out the stabilizer?
Yes but reg has goes bad in a few months in small engine carburetors. Then the engine won’t start. The gas stabilizer prevents that.
