- The Silk Cotton or Ceiba Tree [Ceiba pentandra (L.) Gaertn.] is one of the largest trees in the American tropics.
You can find the tree bursting with airborne seeds in Barbados at the St. Philip Parish Church.

The Ceiba is a rapidly growing deciduous tree that reaches heights of 80 feet or more, and a diameter of five to eight feet above its buttresses
The tree produces three-to-six-inch long, elliptical fruits. These fruits contain many seeds surrounded by a dense mat of cottony fibers
Called Kapok in Asia, the fibers are used for insulation, padding in sleeping bags and life preservers, and for stuffing mattresses and pillowsJamaicans believe that “duppies” (spirits of the dead) live mostly in silk cotton trees and almond trees.
For that reason neither tree should be planted too close to the house because the duppies who live in them will “throw heat” on the people as they come and go.
Duppy is a word of African origin commonly used in various Caribbean Islands, including The Bahamas, Barbados and Jamaica, meaning ghost or spirit
Ceiba pentandra is a tropical tree of the order Malvales and the family Malvaceae (previously emplaced in the family Bombacaceae), native to Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean, northern South America, and (as the variety C. pentandra var guineensis) West Africa. A somewhat smaller variety has been introduced to South and Southeast Asia, where it is cultivated.

That’s very cool, how pretty
Yes very beautiful
Nice video
Thanks
It's a beautiful tree, and maybe they can plant a few more, because it seems to produce quite a few seeds. It's so massive though, i don't think it would be good to plant too many, but certainly it would be great to have enough of tnem to ensure the survival of the species.
This is such a serene environment, thank you for sharing. I have never heard of this tree before
That's a valid point, Thanks for watching
