Dr. Cowen, it is good to see you back. I just wanted to say I recently started working in ocean climatology as a computer scientist, at least in some part, inspired by you. I live on the Gulf Coast and your steadfast information helped me understand and grow in a way to hopefully help others the way you do when talking about the weather and the climate. Thank you.
Just called my kids in. "Hey, kids! Guess what time it is." Levi's first video is like seeing Santa in the Macys Thanksgiving Day Parade. You know what's coming. :)
Dr. Cowan, You are right on point for tropics to kick up in the 2nd or 3rd week of June. Alberto made landfall on June 20th and Beryl less than 2 weeks after Alberto. Thanks for timely and accurate tropical weather updates.
Well Levi, here we are at the start of another Atlantic hurricane season! Don't know what we'd do without your awesome videos to help us out in understanding everything in YOUR way‼️😊 My husband & I have lived in Rockledge, FL in Brevard County since 1989 and our son went to FSU. He found out about you when you were completing your work to get your MS, then your PhD and I've been a loyal fan since you had your TT website only!! Thanks for educating us and all your followers 😘 I've referred several hundred people to you since you're the BEST ❤️🌀
Dr Cowan, thanks so much for this preseason video! I would like to put a vote in for you to also do a post season video in December. Go over things that were learned, what models got right/wrong, and other tidbits from the season.
Well. I've been dreading your return this year in particular Dr. Cowen. Not because you don't have my single favorite channel on youtube. You do, you absolute stud. Just cuz this year scares the hell outa me. Not a great year to live on a sailboat, in the VI, with no working engine, and no cash for insurance, haha.
Happy we got an early upload from this guy. Mr. Levi I think this season will leave you astounded - I don’t think we even have record of data more favorable than what we’re seeing here.
That's the truth. Living on the coast, there's always the chance of a hit. We've been lucky to dodge a number of bad storms for years now, but one day, a bad storm will hit again. It's only a matter of time. Better to be prepared even if one doesn't this go around.
Indeed. Don't hire unlicensed contractors, build on the dunes near the high tide line, or a few feet above a lake...you'll survive. Pay off your mortgage early and cancel insurance unless you're in the above three categories. Modern building codes and an inland home site mean hurricanes are only a nuisance.
I've been watching since Matthew and always look forward to your updates, insight and educational videos. Weather isn't based on emotion, but I have a feeling this season might be a brutal one. Heat index 107° in May, odd long thunderstorms, extreme humidity from on and off rain, and today hail on the treasure coast in FL. Thank you for your dedication to keeping us updated. Many hopes we steer clear from a big one.
Depends on where you live. Weather has ben absolutely beautiful in Central Florida. I was born here in the 70s and this is much cooler than normal for May. Wonderful May thus far. If you think this is hot, you ain't seen nothing yet.
Born and raised in South Florida in the Ft. Lauderdale area. I was a kid when Andrew hit so I've seen quite a bit here, but am somewhat new to the treasure coast which would still be considered South Florida, I'm just more East and closer to the water. Nothing new under the sun for us, but this is not typical temps in May every year, I'm not a genius, but the more South you are, the hotter it is 😅. Growing up we had no AC in the house, I know heat. Rest assured you aren't deterring a snowbird here.
@@christinelisheva9695 Love from DeLand. There's a saying which has kept me balanced in weather terms. "This is the weirdest weather since the last time we had weird weather." People have incredibly short memories when it comes to weather. Few, if anyone, remembers the firestorms of 1989 and 1998. So dry and hot lakes went dry and the fires blotted out the sun for over a month. People forget Andrew was the only major storm to hit Florida since 1948. They don't see patterns. They only see the anomaly and then forget every year between. *There was Donna in the 60s but that was a rain event. We'll get boring again and the Carolinas will return to being hurricane central as they were for 50 years. Everything operates in cycles. Florida will always be hot, even though it's currently beautiful here in DeLand.
It's been an odd year here in the Palm Beaches. A very rainy winter. And a very dry and hot "spring". I can walk across the bottom of the canal next to my house right now, and not get my feet wet. I know this is a facts and evidence based science channel, but I can't stop reading the tea leaves and having a general sense of foreboding about this season.
This year has a volcanic anomaly which the models are not programmed to see. Ruang volcano pumped millions of pounds of sulphur dioxide into the stratosphere at roughly 3° N as well as 3° S. The northern stratospheric plume of gases already circled the equator while the southern portion moved east and either scattered or sank. The belt slightly north of the equator will continue stretching and diluting, yet remain for years. By way of three distinct major eruptions, Ruang pumped as much SO2 into the stratosphere as Mount St Helens. But not as much as Pinatubo. Both of those eruptions led to measurable decreases in surface temperatures. Mt St Helens led to frigid winters in the Northern Hemisphere for much of the 1980s. Multiple years with temps dropping into the teens in Florida and the demise of the citrus and ornamental agriculture of Central Florida. Likely too late to change ocean temps this year, but this will likely be a flash in the pan as solar radiation will be decreased for several years.
Love your videos! Thanks so much for taking the time to post them. Hands down the best resource for weather and storm information. Love going to tropical tidbits to see all the info there as well. Thanks!!
Very good Video and very well explained, I just came across your channel, because of doing some research about this hurricane season as a sailor, to find out if sailing to Azores from the Caribbean is still considerable. Any tips for which data is especially relevant in that topic? Best regards and thanks for your video!✌️
There's like a donut hole of normal sst's or even cooler sst's in the N Atlantic. You can see it on the seasonal and monthly outlooks as well. Could this be from a high/ridge which would steer storms under it or alternatively, upwelling from a number of storms?
One of the other month-to-month modulator is the phase/strength of the MJO (Madden-Julian Oscillation). It either suppresses or enhances convection as it moves from west to east. Regretfully, it is not a feature that can be forecasted this far out.
Dr. Cowan, does the La Niña influence imply that storms are less likely to hook back into West Florida like Ian and Idalia, and more likely to continue westward?
So glad to see you upload, because the hype is inescapable this year, just very concerning.....hey, how about we all skip hurricane season this year & Dr. Levi can just give us weekly classes on weather instead?? :D
Ugh. Its Tropical Tidbits season already?! Guess i need to go supply shopping this week. I know this isnt evidence based reasoning... But i feel like the Palm Beaches are due this year. Dodged way too many bullets in recent times.
I see Tropical Tidbits and I click and hit like.

Welcome back everyone. Let us hope we dont have to see each other too much this year
amen
here's to hoping
Realistically I think it's going to be a rough year for the Gulf states.
I spend an absurd amount of time watching all kinds of science videos and this guy and his website are top 3 all time. Thank you, Levi.
Yes…. I’ve been watching him for 3 seasons…. He is top notch….
so glad to hear easy to understand features that dictate this season and so glad to hear from a real expert on youtube. 😊
Good to see you're still posting videos. Your insight and analysis are the best available to us on UA-cam.
Thanks you very much, Dr Cowan. You're the one I turn to for important, accurate, no-nonsense info regarding tropical activity.
Your support is much appreciated - cheers!
Dr. Cowan, You are right on point for tropics to kick up in the 2nd or 3rd week of June. Alberto made landfall on June 20th and Beryl less than 2 weeks after Alberto. Thanks for timely and accurate tropical weather updates.

Thank you, Dr Cowen. Levelheaded facts are always welcome when it comes to these storms.

Brilliant. I understood about half of it. Off to crank My generators, refill My fuel cans, and stock back up on bottled water. Best to all.
You always put me at ease...
Just like a sweet breeze...
Nobody knows the weather better than you Doc!!
Sincere ThAnK YoU for your research.
I always look forward to your straight talk about what is happening in the tropics. Thanks for being here to inform us all about the upcoming season.

Gonna be wild!!! We need to get Really Good at Recovery Now
Tornadoes +Hurricanes=😱😱
Here we go !!

i dont think itd affect anything. the eruption in tonga didnt lead to a less active hurricane season
Love tropical tidbits! Have followed you for years. Thank you.
Dr cowen, I love your website and UA-cam channel! I always look forward to seeing your forecasts! Keep up the good work!
Welcome to the Season Levi!
Always look forward to your videos! What's the computer/software/stylus hardware setup you use to draw on the screen?
It has changed a few times but right now I'm using gromit-MPX on Linux to do the annotating. Thanks for the tip!
Thank you for the concise, well delivered information
We love you Dr. Levi and thank you for keeping us alert and safe! 🥰😍😘

Your explanations are top-notch, Levi!
Hope we have a safe season, though I always enjoy your videos!
Welcome back, Dr. Cowen! Good to see you start the season. I live in N.FL. and I sure am wary (and weary) of the weather already...
It's good to hear from you again, and I hope we don't have to hear from you much this year!
Hello Dr and everybody else. Here we go again. Fingers crossed, lets all be safe this season.
Always look forward to Dr. Levi! 😊
He’ssssssss BAAAAAAACKKKKKKKK

Glad to have you back!
Thank you for the video Dr.Levi.
Glad to see you back, Levi! Here's to hoping everyone has a safe season this year.
Glad to see you again :) ❤️
Welcome back Tropical Tidbits. Your like the Convective Chronicles for the tropics with forecasts that breakdown the season.
Hi Dr Cowen!
And greetings to all from the Mississippi Gulf Coast!
Welcome back!! Excited for your content this coming year, it's my favorite hurricane information out there
Great video once again. Please keep it up this year. Thank you for all the great information.
Great video. Please do a 2024 Pacific Hurricane Season Outlook.
Thank you Dr. Cowen!
Good to see you back. Thanks for update.
Ah Levi. It’s that time of year again.
Thanks again for spelling it all out for us. Very good info to have.
Welcome back Dr. Cowen.
When Dr Cowen post an update everyone gets quiet 🤫 and listen. Thank you sir
Love it! Great no hype forecast. Despite ominous signs thanks for keeping it real and honest
There's a lot of Sahara dust in the Atlantic. I believe this inhibits storm formation. How does this play into the forecasts?
I missed you
I was at the beach on Dauphin Island, Alabama yesterday. That water feels like it would be in July. Hoping and praying it doesn’t get bad this year.
This is the beginning of hurricane season 4 me.
When the updates start here.
Thx Doc
Vero Beach, Fl here, no storms please.
Thank you Levi.
I appreciate you so much 💓
Let the games begin.
May the odds be always in your favor.
Thank you Doc. Totally understood.
You saved my butt more times than I can count. Thank you!!
So glad you are back ❤️
Great to hear your insight!
Dr. Levi we need another video!
I've been watching him since Irma.
I no longer live on the coast and it sounds like I should be glad of that this year.

Wow, what a great explanation. Sent here by Nutrien ag youtube channel.
The true God of tropical weather forecasting not only is he accurate but he's very thorough glad to see you back.
Can't belive I just found this! Great video! I am lateeee!
Keep the videos coming. Im in the panhandle of Florida and look for your videos.
Crossing fingers, hoping low activity end of month of August. Headed to Anna Maria Island, FL for first time.
Welcome back, my friend!
Will Trinidad be at risk for storms this year?
what about in guayama pr
Dude I love your videos man, exactly my speed
So what happens if we have another heat dome develop? Are the conditions strong enough to push it?
Thank you Levi.

Any chance of Saharan dust being more active this year?
I have no doubt this hurricane season will be tough. 🤯🙏🏻
