I don’t think Punk has lost his aura. I just think the Drew feud has run too long due to his injury. It’s already been 8 months and we have probably two matches still to run.
12:28 made me audibly “what the actual fuck” out loud. Flair could make anyone look good, had an insane schedule, knew how to work the crowds, and is one of the most important wrestlers in history
The thing with Punk is that I think he’s holding back a bit, or at least it’s how it feels. I don’t necessarily think that others have caught up as much as others think, but that he’s holding off a little. Perhaps I’m wrong, but I just have a gut feeling that if he wanted to open up and really go for it he could bury them all
When CM Punk was in AEW ,his work felt really fresh, now that's he's back in WWE ,working with people that he knows well ,it's too comfortable cause he's trying to become pipebomb punk, but he's almost 50 and has gray hair now. When he was in AEW it was all brand new young guys
My big question is who is gonna manage the lucha bros? My fantasy booking is bring chavo back but realistically i dont know how thryll fare in wwe without a manager
I agree about Ric Flair IN THE CONTEXT of WCW monday night wars forward, maybe even prior to his first run in WWF I was never interest in a match, angle, promo or anything, and he just got by on historical prestige
I do feel like Drew has done much of the heavy lifting in this program, even regardless of Punk's injury. Punk's "happy to be here" good guy character lacks both fire and depth, which is odd because he did seem much more inspired when he was doing the same character in AEW. He hasn't had a single promo in his current WWE run that gets anywhere near, say, the "MJF, will you be my valentine?" promo.
There is ABSOLUTELY no reason for Cena to win the IC title. he’s already given the WWE his matches with the midcard guys , he put over theory, sikoa etc. it’s time for him to go after #17 at wrestlemania & go back to facing the heavyweights , his last run needs to be with all the top guys , Orton , Cody @ mania , Logan Paul( for the marquee aspect) , Punk , Gunther , McIntyre etc.
Complacent Mic Punk. He doesn't NEED to be the best on the mic anymore, he's the popular guy amongst most fans. He's basic, he's plain Pepsi in a sea of drinks. Still good, but not gonna hyper impress anymore. LOVE HIM, but he has no bite. Lucha Bros will 100% injure a very WWE guy within their first 4 televised matches *early guess is Gable or a Creed brother* and will get de-pushed into oblivion
Everything Punk has done so far in WWE since coming back looks so tame compared to his first run and what he did in AEW. Not hating on him, just stating how I see his run going so far. The whole thing about the bracelet and shoehorning Seth into his feud with Drew just didn't work for me. I'm hoping we see better matches / feuds moving forward because odds are he's main eventing WrestleMania night 1 next year.
Has Punk lost his aura? Never really got any kind of aura from him other than wannabe fake tough guy shit talker that could only ever win a predetermined fight. To me he's always seemed like someone who would be famous from something like going viral in a video of him trying to mug some 90 year old woman in Florida but she kicks the shit out of him instead. Not pro wrestling... so yeah, I guess he hasn't lost his aura. He's definitely still that guy as far as I can tell.
If you have a problem with predetermined fights why are you watching a wrestling UA-cam channel? Every wrestler is an actor/stuntman who is pretending to be tough. That's not a Punk thing, that's what every wrestler is.
It’s hard to stand out when there are so many above-average people alongside you. Punk is still great, but the roster as a whole is just killing it these days
Punk has as much aura as ever, if anyone is waiting for him to be anti establishment then they’re trapped in the past The crowd went nuts for his promo last night; let go of the past and enjoy the NOW
CM Punk is a top merch seller. There's literally nobody in the company that can touch him on the mic, I am dead serious. Drew's entire character is trolling CM Punk...what was drew doing before Punk? wearing a skirt and carrying his boss' sword. Just a bunch of bitter Punk haters that hate the fact that he's as big as he's ever been and he's barely wrestled it really grinds y'all's gears lol
I don't leave very many comments, but I have to say, you both are totally right about coffee being great with cake. Iced coffee with a slice of chocolate cake is an incredible end to a meal
I dont disagree with the okada point but weve seen the rain maker for a decade. him doing something other than 45 minute epic long main event matches was needed. he can always revert back to that but he needed something other than "i wrestle good" out the gate.
here's my take. MJF is the modern day Shane Douglas. above average (but not great) in the ring who gets himself over with his aggressive promos. BUT, can he do it under a different uumbrella? Douglas was amazing in ECW where he could say what he wanted. outside of that pond.. he was lost in what he was saying and his ring work ever stood out. I hope I'm wrong.
1:43 I cannot stand it when podcasters or people on the internet call wrestlers by their real names when you do not know them. This isn’t directed just at you guys, a lot of people do it, but Larson does it basically ONLY for Punk. He doesn’t call Kenny Omega “Tyson” or Seth Rollins “Colby”, kinda giving credence to the whole Punk Derangement Syndrome allegations.
Steve and Larson! You should reach out to the Blade from AEW. He loves movies and he has his own movie centered podcast. He’s be a great interview if you just want to talk movies. And he is super nice!!!
Clearly an opinion of someone who didn't see his heel run before he left AEW. That Collision return promo, "Tell me when I'm telling lies" ....pure venom. Faces are always watered down(and passive, AAA) He'll turn eventually, just you wait.
I couldn't disagree any more with that Okada take. I absolutely LOVE his AEW run, especially after being constantly in the main event in NJPW. It's great to see him do something completely new and grow as a character. Yes, I wish he was on TV more and did his own thing, but for what he's done it's been great.
I do agree at least that Punk isn't nearly as good on the mic as he used to be. This Monday showed he lacks anything interesting to say. Cody's feud with Rock is an example of a babyface with a LOT to say of intrigue. Dude always cuts memorable and well worded promos unlike Phil.
IMO Drew’s promos have carried this feud cause of who Drew is. He carried WWE during the pandemic. He’s a hard worker. He’s in this feud on and off tv. Constantly keeping the this feud in the forefront by using his social presence. He’s throwing everything at this to be at the top.
Punk’s promo about missing mania was such good shit. I think most people complaining about Punk is either stuck on his return promo or thought every promo was his Cena promos
Just like Kenny, Nakamura, and Shibata; Okada in the states isn't looking to be the performer he was in NJPW. He's older (not old, but older), he's beaten up, he's got a bad back, and he basically came here to coast on a reputation until he has to replenish it with one or two matches a year that are close to that NJPW level. I do not begrudge any of these men for not going as hard as often as they did at the apex of their careers in Japan. It's simply not sustainable, and you can look at other names out of Japan right now that were Okada's contemporaries who are in rough shape because they kept going on that level far past the point of their body telling them "no". Kota Ibushi and Tetsuya Naito are hanging on by a thread, Tanahashi hasn't been himself in the ring for nearly three years, and half of Kenta's body is perpetually in a compression sleeve. Let Okada have this happy, healthy, and hilarious schedule that earns him money that NJPW could probably never dish out and lets him show a bit of personality away from being "the guy".
"Other than Dominic for good young wrestlers, maybe Drew McIntyre..." He's almost 40. No carmello hayes, no Trick Williams... Rhea Ripley, Bron Breaker...
I wanna see Nakamura vs CM Punk but Nakamura has been used like crap lately. Nakamura should be used like Gunther. Dominant, short promos, beating babyfaces clean
Okada is doing the exact same thing Nakamuira did. He's taking the easy pay check, coasting so his body doesn't completely go to shit, and using it as his semi retirement. It's why I've never cared for Nakamura, and am starting to feel the same with the rainmaker. We will never see New Japan Okada, again.
I can totally understand why younger audiences don't think much of Ric Flair. I'm glad that I was able to experience his matches during the 80s as the ring psychology and his ability to make you care was unmatched. However, now that we're removed from that time, his matches don't translate as well for today's eyes and ears.
I think Cm Punk vs Drew was dragged out longer than it needed. If we got a strap match for Summerslam or maybe a couple less moments between them building to this Bash In Berlin match then it would still feel special. It’s just overexposed to death and I’m not excited about any of it anymore. I’m desperate for the payoff to be good because of how much potential it had and how much time we’ve invested in it.
People are slowly starting to see through MJF's bs. Any wrestler with good cardio could go in a 60 minute dud that doesnt make sense. MJF is absolutely as mid as it gets.
That tends to happen when you can barely wrestle. Call yourself the best in the world all you want, but you gotta back it up in the ring. Angle knew that, eddie knew that, hbk knew that, prton knows that.
CM Punk is still great on the mic. I think people are just starting to get used to him when he’s having promos every week. People expect every Punk promo to be “breaking the 4th wall” and “zingers and zingers and zingers” but his promos now have a narrative. Every promo can’t be pipebombs.
Personally I think everyone of he's promo are just like the pipe bomb. And very the same as before apart from changing name's and story. It's like masonry every night

Punk Mcintyre feud just ran it's course, feels like they're recyling the same 3 talking points. His one-on-one promos with Cody Rhodes and Seth Rollins last year were great and very back and forth. Same with his injury promo when he was too injured for Wrestlemania. It was amazing. I still go back to it frequently because of how raw and motivational it feels.

The thing about Punk's "aura" is that he became famous for being counter culture, anti-establishment, punk rock, yadda yadda yadda. Triple H famously called him out on it in a promo years ago saying it was all a gimmick and he just wants to get his way with his face on things ... and he was right. Yeah, Punk is still wearing Ramones t-shirts and has all the tats and blah blah blah but it seems hollow now. He's still a great sports entertainer regardless with engaging promos, but the meat ain't there anymore. Not sure it ever was and it was all just a gimmick to LOOK a certain way but really NOT be that guy at the core. Hell Cody even said he, in powder blue suits, did all the things Punk, the revolutionary, said he was going to do and never did. Sign of the times though. This weird era we live in right now is full of obvious frauds to their image but people still go along anyway, and I'm not only talking about wrestling.
Everyone else might have gotten better on the mic. And everyone might have already liked Drew before this but theres no denying Punk has gotten Drew more over this past year than every before (and im scottish btw). Punk always raises the people he fueds with thats just undeniable at this point, i firmly believe hes the one pulling the strings backstage for this feud its been excellent.
I don’t think Punk has lost his aura. I just think the Drew feud has run too long due to his injury. It’s already been 8 months and we have probably two matches still to run.
This is why people say we don't like long term storytelling as fans. Feud has been nothing but good but its going to long?
Punk has been injured for like 70% of the time he has been back with WWE.... it's kinda hard to stay hot when you can't work.
