He's a brilliant actor and a nice guy .
A brilliant interviewer, Mavis, and super-talented actor Derek. What a treat.
My favorite actor!!! Derek Jacobi is just magnificent!!
He is. Like they used to say of Spencer Tracy's acting, you can't see the mechanism at work.
One of my all-time favorite actors 👍
Sir Derek Jacobi aged like fucking fine wine
Still on TV 39 years later!
Absolutely wonderful, talented man!
Yes! Wonderful!❤
That voice is so relaxing, so beautiful.
Brilliant actor, loved his Claudius. His recent episodes of inside number 9 were really good too.
Sir Derek Jacobi is an amazing Actor, one of my favorites. I whatched him in ANTONY AND CLEOPATRA in the character of Julius Caesar and also in HAMLET as Hamlet at The Old Vic Theatre London December 1977 and met him personally, and of course in I CLAUDIUS at the TV that popularized him all around the world. Some pictures like GLADIATOR, THE HUMAN FACTOR and THE BODY with my good Friend Antonio Banderas (I am an amateur actor from Malaga). He´s a brilliant actor and a nice guy as Andy Nixon says. Es un actor magnífico y un tío majo como dice Andy Nixon. Greetings from the Eternal Spain.
My favorite actor.
Glad I found Derek- Love him in LAST TANGO IN HALIFAX
I'll put kettle on.
Just found this after watching an interview with him that's more current, the man doesn't age that much, only his voice has changed.
Have loved him in everything that I've seen him in. Got bought his autobiography recently. Hopefully he has time for another one as he's not that old.
I love this man so much 😭 I love I Clavdivs so much especially Claudius. he’s just incredible. He seems like such a nice guy as well
He actually looks younger in reality now then when he had the makeup on to appear as the older emperor Claudius.
huh
Big hands for a man of 5’10”. Good for the stage. For expression.
He’s amazing in The War Master.
Amazing actor! Fell in love with him the day I saw him play Augustus in the old version of I, Claudius!
HE played Claudius. Augustus was played by Brian Blessed
@@Kimllg88 ohhh... you are so right. I meant to say Claudius, instead of Augustus. I wish they would remake that series.
@@SoniaDill should not be remade....they will eff it up
@@thewkovacs316You know something?... Come to think about it, you are so right!
I remember him from "I Claudius"! He's a very good actor. 🙂
Loved him in gladiator also
@@janetlieb2507 Oh, yes! That one was very good too!😊
@@janetlieb2507 Yes. There was really no way he couldn't have been in that.
Brilliant actor. He’s also fantastic as The Master in the audio Doctor Who spin off The War Master. Truly chilling performance.
A MAGNIFICENT Actor!
Great actor! Gorgeous man, so beautifully and softly spoken. I remember watching his "Hamlet" at university. No wonder he came to the attention of Laurence Olivier. His "I Claudius" performance stands the test of time.
Oh my I can’t believe how he reminds me of Alan Rickman, the pauses and the way he talks.
Hes actually Virgo
S-o was Șir Sean Connery
I know who Sir Derek Jacobi is. This will be the first time I'd seen an interview of him.
What a lovely man and marvellous actor.
EXTRAORDINARY in ' Little Dorrit!'
Brilliant in I Claudius ..
I just got back from a trip to Halifax, it's slightly disturbing that UA-cam knew to recommend this video to me.
Just adore Sir Derek
I just watched the 1965 BBC documentary of the failed production of Corda's I, Claudius. With Charles Laughton as Claudius.
So it was interesting to hear Derek Jacobi say he watched that archived footage of Laughton playing Claudius before playing the character himself.
To me, in the scene with Claudius and Caligula, where Claudius is sure Caligula is about to kill him, Jacobi's acting appears to almost perfectly mimic Laughton's earlier, 1937, performance.
I'm not complaining. They BOTH play the character perfectly!
Loved him as Cadfael. He had such a knowing, Roman look ;) Seems like a really nice chap in real life.
Never seen him without gray hair.
Sorry, I meant the film ODESSA (based in the novel by Frederick Forsyth) not THE HUMAN FACTOR (a novel by Graham Green). I am getting old. Disculpen, quería decir la película ODESSA (basada en la novela de Frederick Forsyth), no EL FACTOR HUMANO de Graham Green. Me estoy haciendo viejo.
Wasn't he good in I Claudius
The whole cast was excellent. Brian blessed Sian Phillips John Hurt etc
@@scottgarvie5882 you are so right Scott
He wasn't just good, he was majestic
@@JulioLeonFandinho you are so right
Yep. He's always great, but Claudius showcased his brilliance.
I was absolutely convinced he was a Yorkshireman. What a brilliant actor.
Just watching him play Allan Buttershaw last Tango. Hope they make another series.
He should be our guest on Swales tunes radio!
I'm here from in the night garden. Just me?
Nope
Isn't That A Pip
He played as Brendan Dufris aka Stick's Uncle
He has a son called Mark Dufris aka Stick's Nephew played by Rob Rackstraw
MARAVILLOSO DERECK. INMENSO ACTOR !!
Hes my cousin
I am here because of Frasier.
That's really too bad. He's done SO VERY MANY other, better things than Frasier...
I’m here because of The War Master. The best audio drama I’ve ever listened to. Because of, of course, Sir Derek Jacobi!
@@NancyDelain yes but to ham it up properly without being too obvious takes skill.. an abundance of it..
@@tanyacobb9636 No question. But you misconstrued my comment. It was not a critique of Sir Derek ("SDJ") at all (indeed, SDJ won an Emmy for his role on Frasier); it was a statement that SDJ has done far, far better TV/movies/theatre than Frasier (the series) could ever hope to do. "I, Claudius" is better TV than is "Frasier." SDJ is brilliant, as ever, in the role; Frasier (the series)... not my cup of tea. That is just my opinion; others can disagree.
@@NancyDelain fair enough, but you're not keen on Frasier?!?! 🤗
JACobi or jaCOBi? or jacobI?....I know it's not the last one.
JACobi
Night garden narratir
I still see him as the stuttering Claudius.
Claw, Claw, Claudius...😉
He doesn't sound like Nicodemus at all
"Igglepiggle Iggle-Onk, We're Going To Catch........................"
Derek Jacobi | Studio interview | Afternoon plus | 1981 i, ludicrous was a bit of a shocker especially with the beheaded child scene... which looked too real for some. erm... i, Claudius? ah. wrong perlocution... hmmm... he was in the fantastically deranged medusa touch - which is still a fine film in my personal pantheon of classics. cos, like derek, i am completely subjective in that sense...
QUE PENA QUE SEA INGLÉS !!
