@DefenceMatrix agreed, last i heard about actuators was in 2019 or so where they had told they were working on it and indigenous actuators would replace the imported ones in future lca. The problem i think was with covid and scale. Until the industrial partners get a sizeable order even if the system can be made desi, they will not put the capital required to set up production chain into the project. Also critical component which requires a lot of testing Not to mention our certification processes are very slow and they test things till they break and then again upgrade the component to just test again till they are happy. Hopefully now it will be faster and maybe from 2026 batch all mk1a will have these

Defense experts should start thinking of Geopolitical scenarios as well. No the Forces would not accept something thats sub par since they are there to defend us. We are definitely not better than the Chiefs up there with decades into defending our nation. The import lobby does exists and I agree, but where you are in a war, you pick your battles. My guess is there were funding issues in ADA. ADA had to chose which programs to give money to and since control surfaces had already been purchased they gave priority to other works like AESA program and all.

@DefenceMatrix agreed, last i heard about actuators was in 2019 or so where they had told they were working on it and indigenous actuators would replace the imported ones in future lca.
The problem i think was with covid and scale. Until the industrial partners get a sizeable order even if the system can be made desi, they will not put the capital required to set up production chain into the project.
Also critical component which requires a lot of testing
Not to mention our certification processes are very slow and they test things till they break and then again upgrade the component to just test again till they are happy.
Hopefully now it will be faster and maybe from 2026 batch all mk1a will have these
@DefenceMatrix first time i had a conversation about actuators being imported with people from ada/hal was in i guess 2016-17 where i was complaining why we import that component which can be made here by many.
Back then order book had nothing in place and they simply were saying about scale being not justified
Most of our officers, engineers and scientist in defence are busy oiling the imported machines, there is no time for R&D🤣😂

My guess is there were funding issues in ADA. ADA had to chose which programs to give money to and since control surfaces had already been purchased they gave priority to other works like AESA program and all.
