Us black fullas on the east coast of Australia do it the same way as you mentioned. By giving it a tenderise with the mallet. A quick fry and smack it on a sandwich. Otherwise we dive, collect, scrub it on the rocks, bash with rock, wash in ocean and the put back in shell and put on the fire. That’s my absolute favourite way!
take em straight outta shell then smack em with a mellet until sole splits beautiful. would have to give u a weeks notice before cooking it too lol man u do it the slow way
