21 yrs ago! I just started as a CT DOC Officer. I just retired from there in Feb 2020. 20 yrs completed. Man, if i knew then, what i know now, my life would have turned about better. Much better
Unfortunately this was the pinnacle as a Pacers fan. We couldn't get past Jordan in the East until he retired and then we run into Kobe/Shaq when we finally got to the Finals. Was a fun ride though even with no ring.
I know these are highlights and I don't want to fall into the fallacy of "back in my day...", but man modern day basketball almost seems sloppy compared to the grit and composure of this series
Sickest crowd in sports not even Manning's Colts games had the juice a Pacer playoff game did. Especially in old, sticky ass floor MSG. Colts were great but it's basketball.
@@reneperezjr8383 because it's the only nba finals the pacers ever played in and the won to force game 6. I'm aware they've won some aba titles but still their backs were against the wall they played like champions.
@@jareddavidmanifold313 they got screwed game 6 Rose tied it & Davis got the rebound next Laker miss & they could've held 4 final shot. But they called a late foul on Davis w/ LA in the penalty of course & put Rice on the line to win it. Replay showed not only no foul but no contact whatsoever. Rice wasn't touched. Then next yr the Kings/Laker game happened. LA may of won in OT if Indy missed & if not prob win gm 7 but dark times when the league was crooked af. @@BIGLARRY100 Indiana was the 2nd best team that fakers team faced from 00-04. My Pistons shocked the basketball world in 2004!! Then we got hosed in 2005 against Tim Duncan's spurs. If that series was replayed the following week the pistons woulda swept em. It was a huge uphill battle after going all 7 against Miami in the 05 ecfs and then getting beat up in the 1st 2 games of the finals against San Antonio. The spurs weren't chopped liver by any stretch I just always felt that team was better than the spurs. The 1 that got away just like in 88' when the pistons went the distance against showtime. Now that pistons team really got hosed!!! The phantom foul on laimbeer against Kareem. Worst call down the stretch of a finals game I've ever witnessed. It's reminiscent of the foul the refs called on Rasheed Wallace against Shaq in the last minute of overtime in game 2 2004 nba finals. The pistons shoulda swept the fakers. That team knew all they needed was 87 to 90 points to win games. That defense was tenacious!! Probly the best ever in league history. Statistically absolutely but the badboys really knew how to clamp down on better teams than the goin to work pistons faced. Jordan Bird Magic. What an era of nba basketball.
I wonder if this game was a case of the Lakers blowing their load in Game 4 and coming out flat the following game. Props to the Pacers for not letting the devastation of Game 4 devastate them.
Because Kobe struggled defensively in those playoffs. It wasn't that he got hurt, even though that didn't help, it was because he was young. He was a great defender that year but come playoff time he had a lot to learn. Veteran players gave him trouble and coaches told there teams to make Kobe work more defensively. Against Portland Steve Smith was on fire the whole series and gave him fits, and so did Jalen Rose in the finals.
A lot of people hate him for pulling the Zaza move on Kobe in game 2. Also people just like to clown him for Kobe's 81 point game. Good player for sure though.
This is one of my favorite games of all time. So sad! Reggie Miller doesn't have a championship ring. He's the best player of all time not to have one.
In these finals shaq averaged more ppg than the 2nd, 3rd, 4th leading scorers on this lakers team combined. Shaq= 38.0 ppg Kobe, Rice, Harper= 37.9 ppg Thats crazy 😂😂 If shaq would of just shot 65% from the free throw line he would have averaged 42.6 ppg. That would of been an all time record beating Jordan's 41.0. But ifs dont matter.
If Klay "The Modern Day Reggie Miller" Thompson only played like this in the playoffs, they could've beaten the Lakers but I guess he's no Reggie Miller after all. 🤷🤷🤷
3:31 notice a theme yet? Kobe missing more than he makes and Shaq finals mvp every year Shaq won the finals with Kobe. Kobe 15 ppg in finals vs Philadelphia. Kobe the most overrated player EVER, MOST MISSED SHOTS EVER. 2 finals mvps out of 5 rings. That's why you don't hear his name with Jordan or even LeBron. Jordan is NUMBER ONE in ppg for regular season and playoffs, LeBron is top 5 in both. Kobe is 24th all time in ppg, while missing the most shots in NBA history. He was a poor imitation of Jordan and had the arrogance to say he was better. Numbers however don't lie. 6 finals mvps vs 2, 4 finals mvps vs 2. Boy hush💯
This was early on in his career though, he still ended up with more rings than shaq and lebron and was the best player in those runs 2009 and 2010. With someone as dominant as shaq all they really needed to do was feed him the ball and nobody could guard him in the paint. Out of Kareems run with the lakers he only got 1 fmvp out of 5 chips but nobody discredits him bc his teammates were just that good, it's a team effort. Steph 1 fmvp out of 4 chips I barely hear people get on him for that either. You're probably an older fan, stop kissing jordans ass
Lakers toughest finals of that three peat. Indiana was no joke.
Yeah, they took the 1998 Bulls to 7 in ECF, in Bird's 1st year as head coach.
I could be wrong but the Lakers started 11-0 that season. First loss was to the Pacers.
sixers had a chance to win game 3 or 4, shaq fouled out and it was like a tie game. they probably still lose the series but yeah
Especially with Kobe injured and only shot at good percentage for game 4.
Jalen is a baller.
Reggie Miller was so great in this series but his team just couldn’t beat Shaq Kobe and the lakers
Jalen Rose also was great
They were so close took Lakers 6 games and Jordans bulls 7
I think if they beat the Knicks in 1999 season and played the Spurs, they would have won that series.
Shaq was the big factor cleaning up all their misses & scoring !
really wish reggie had won this series
Pacers my Team, and Miller my player all time
Also, the next game was Smits final game. Mark Jackson signed with raptors. And Dale Davis was traded for Jermaine Oneal. So, Pacers lost 3-5 starters
@@KJ3113 SAME
@@brianwilliams6167 that’s great bro!!!
Me too
Reggie for 3 ... ohhhhh baby ☺
3pt line owned by pacers that night, amazing
I love Steph and Ray Allen but“Reggie miller was different”
Unreal how dominant Shaq, and Kobe were . If they never had beef, they might have won 6, or 7 rings together, instead of just 3 in a row
Na Shaq got fat and was way out of his prime exactly why the Lakers had no problem letting him go
nah if shaq wasn't fat they could have
Funny you make this comment on a video where they lose by 33. Lol
Jalen played very well

In an era were you literally needed at least a "superstar", I tip my hat off to Larry Legend and the Pacers for putting together a pretty good team
They had some solid shooters on the team. It wasn't just Reggie Miller Shrimp, and Perkins.
Yup a deep squad early 2000s Pacers were great
Reggie Miller was a Superstar.
Great quality

Pacers we’re the Utah Jazz of the eastern conference. Always got close but came up short 🎉
Them pacers tuff! Favorites real smooth
Grew up in the 90s in Indy.. miss the juice of the crowd in games like this

I so loved the Pacers , new court ( conseco fieldhouse that year and they made finals.
Another great upload
Jalen rose was cooking Kobe R.I.P
😂😂😂😂_Kobe couldn't figure him out !
Jalen Rose's greatest game vs Kobe
Reggie was so underrated.
Without Shaq,Lakers couldn't win this series.
I was saying the same thing
The single best win in the history of a franchise.
How so?

You knew it was playoffs/ Finals time if players were wearing black socks and black shoes. The real NBA era.
Pacers did tht under Reggie or shaved heads even
The Lakers got completely demolished on the scoreboard and Shaq STILL scored 35
No one more dangerous by the rim than Shaq
wilt
Best Game of these finals.
People don't realize how big of a challenge the Pacers were.
Sam Perkins AKA big smooth was no joke. Very underrated
this the tape that no one knows about. Jalen is no random role player. He was ballin out against kobe
MIP that year and leading scorer. great in those finals too.

Jalen rose was so underrated
Jalen Rose balled out this game. Kobe never forgave him for it - though it took Kobe 6 years to fully get his revenge.
😂😂😂😂😂😂, by that time the guy was old !
Reggie is better than curry and Thompson
Kobe couldn’t get lift or lateral movement after that ankle injury smh
He dunked on Smiths , not wrong with that Ankle !
There are people I know who thinks my birth name is Reggie Miller. Enough said.
If Kobe's such a "great" defender, why isn't he guarding the Pacers' best player Reggie?
sprained ankle in game 2 him chasing around reggie would not be a good idea
