Woody sings! Soon-Yi Previn makes an appearance at the very end when Woody exits. John Doumanian, the coke guy from Annie Hall, and one of Woody's best friends was also in attendance.
Woody Allen is not the best clarinetist , nor is he the worst. This is a man of many talents, music is just 1 of his many passions.
Here he doesn't want to be a celebrity , he just wants to be one of the band members and enjoy playing the music he loves , that is great.
Woody is a genius! Artist, filmmaker, writer, director, musician, and philosopher!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And everything with a GREAT passion! We love you, Woody!!!!!!!! #IBelieveWoody
He sent a friend to Hollywood to get his Oscar because he preferred to play New Orleans Jazz.
there will never be another like woody. Him and Groucho. May he live til 101, ok, maybe 102, but no more than 103. the doubters all owe him an apology.
Yes (?) but should leave jazz alone.
Bravo to Woody! Bravo to all! Amazing music! Thanks a lot!
As a musician myself I thought that a man so busy as Mr Allen could barely blow the clarinet,it proved totally wrong when I heard him first a few days ago (l live in Cuba) Woody doesn't just have an appealing sound and feel,he also knows harmony so can modulate through the chords nicely.the trumpet solo is out of this world!!!
I think Woody does a pretty good job on that solo for a "civilian." That music and clarinet are not easy to play. And he sings too! Who knew.
Fantastic,amazing New Orleans Jazz Band
I am happy when he is happy .
me too!
I love this performance. thanks for sharing, I am waiting for more videos like this :D
Real music.
Amazing! Love this jazz!!!
It would have been nice to include all the musicians` names in the final credits! Woody usually does!

Wow!
I don't remember if it was the Carlyle , but we had gone to see Woody Allen to ask him to narrate our Movie on Mardi Gras & NOLA's Music of all kinds ! It was filmed during the Famous Policeman's Strike during Mardi Gras 1978 , sadly he turned us down. He does play a really nice clarinet !!!
He does have a nice clarinet but plays it badly. Sorry, but that's the truth. Ask any real musician.
Yo Thanks for the video MARK!!!, Eddy come to CHICAGO!
Eddy Davis for president!
amazing
7:32 the napkin trick: i take it from my left pocket, move it to the right pocket and then back into the left pocket.
They should have given the singer a microphone plugged into a fender tweed amp on the side if they want to be historically accurate.
We all love you, but please, just keep giving the director (and the actor too), Woody.
Woody was 77 here! Such a genius!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I love this performance !
Gold class
🔥🔥🔥
The best
R.I.P. Eddy Davis
El trompetista se mandó un sólo tremendo!!!!!!!!!!
I love voody allen
he has a very Sidney Bechet style of playing
Just like Hugh Laurie, better musicians then actors. And they´re good acting!
Hey these folks sound alright.
Good music for tourists. Do a youtube search for "Tuba Skinny" to see authentic New Orleans music.
I guess, but in terms of musical ability, Conal Fowkes, Eddy Davis, and the rest of these folks could play the band you referenced under the table while reading a racing form.
Ég heiti Nonni!!!
version dixieland de la brabançonne(Belgique)
POL CLOSSET "la brabançonne"
Por eso no hay que aplaudir mientras tocan.
Would love to see this in colour! And does anyone know if he is still playing at Carlyle on Mondays or?

t now.
Magnifique Noir et blanc.
Woody wipes his schnozz a lot.
Woody raping his flaute
wow! 3:40 on! puff!
Reminder woody Allen married his adopted daughter
His style isn't terrible but he doesn't have the technique to get around and sound idiomatically appropriate to a great jazz clarinet player.
I have heard him do so much better that I am surprised to hear him on this clip. Disappointing, as I have been and remain a fan.
Is he performing (?) or doing strip tease?.
My godness..
Sleeping man old jazz
I like his movies but he cant play the clarinet, well not good enougth to appear in public.
The point of this kind of music is that it is freewheeling, so you can be raw and imperfect. It's soulful.
I guess he gets a concession on account of his celebrity:-) I think he's quite good but I'm no expert.
+Brian Fairey Do you understand that Woody, and the rest of the soloists, were improvising, which is so much more difficult than playing a memorized part, in general? That's what jazz is all about, improvisation. Some solos are bound to be better than others, from the same player on the same instrument, from one solo to the next. I'm sure that's not the best solo he's ever done (only listened to the first tune), but it was decent, at least. That song had a whippin' fast tempo, by the way, which raises the degree of difficulty.
Can you refer me to a UA-cam video of a New Orleans Jazz clarinet player that you think IS good enough to appear in public?
Im not a huge Jazz fan, but the whole thing is being misunderstood by many. Improvisation and soulful playing doesnt mean that anyone can get up there and play. Improvising has its rules too, weird as it may sound. Yes, you can be imperfect but understanding the soul of jazz music doesnt mean you can also play it and be called a musician.
stupid
Great musicians. Worst Allen clarinet solo in history.
And there's a lot of bad ones.
too bad woody isn't having to play this in prison.
