    Thanks Yong Chen!
The only time I find myself using white, is if I'm trying to mix a colour such a cyan or a very light baby blue. Which I don't seem to be able to make by diluting ultramarine.

I think you should be using cerulean blue in this case not white. That doesn't make much sense. If you wanted to mix naples yellow or lavender that might make sense to use white.

Very good. I sometimes use the white color when I want to do effects of light beside just a "white dot", given a blur effect around. But I can also do this using a very transparent version of the color around the light or even just blend the white dot with the around just using clean water. This can be very good used when doing stars or effects in a glass.

@@YongChen A Happy New Year to you also. I will probably use both methods while painting. I plan to paint with oils, as well as watercolor. I will eventually use water for pastels as I gain experience using watercolors. At the moment I am just starting on my journey. I am using a cheap set of watercolors, but I have a small set of Daniel Smith on order--waiting for them is HARD.

When I want to highlight one part of my paint I cant lift the color because it is almost dry, so I can use white watercolor paint, right?

Is white colour always opaque (=gouache)?
I believe in my watercolour set it's nowhere stated that the white is opaque so I believe it's normal transparent watercolour. I'm not home atm so I can't test it right now unfortunately

Different white paints have different degrees of opaque. For example Titanium White is more opaque than Chinese White.

Yong Chen sir is absolutely right. We cannot use white to lessen the value of color. White color itself is not opaque but using it directly from palette on other colors will make the resulting color opaque. Which means we shouldnt use direct white from palette to paper over other colors. But we can use white with other color, mix it on palette first, create a different shade and then use the resulting shade like any other watercolor creating different values and all. Just like we create greens by mixing blue and yellow first on palette and then use it on paper.

My watercolor palette came with Chinese White but I’m not sure what I should use it for/ how I should use it
