Hardy actually won the final match of the Terri Invitational Tournament for his team, which gave us the hilarious image of him falling off the ladder with the moneybag and flailing as he fell lmao And he also beat Edge earlier in 2009
Just started watching. I think I know what #1 will be. Bret Hart vs. British Bulldog. And there’s nothing wrong with that. It was a spectacular wrestling match.
Even though Babyface Rock VS Heel Triple H is generally the preferred formula Triple H in 98 was pretty over as a face against The Rock That ladder match was pretty epic
My Nan got Sky in the Summer of 92 so Summerslam 92 was the first PPV I ever watched (a neighbour lent me Mania 8 on tape just after.) Stopped watching again in about 95 maybe when things went to shit but for a decade or two I remembered Bret vs Bulldog as the greatest thing ever. When I got back into watching, I still remembered it fondly but for a while I just assumed it was 'cause it was Bulldog and it was Wembley and I was a little 11 yr old brit. Then I went back and watched it as an adult and discovered it's still one of the greatest matches I've ever seen.
The road to that match between Honkytonk Man and Ultimate Warrior started months earlier when Vince wanted Honkytonk to drop the IC title to Randy Savage. Honkytonk used Hogan's "that doesn't work for me, brother" card and wouldn't do the job. The company pivoted to Randy winning the then WWF Championship instead and slotted Brutus Beefcake into the IC title picture. Then the Ron Bass thing happened which opened the door for Warrior.
Brock vs Angle from Summerslam 2003 is also a banger of a match, definitely wish we could see what would've happened if Kurt had retained at Mania 19 and went into SS as champion instead.
I don't think Jeff has one a TLC match, at least in WWE, but he has won quite a few ladder matches, especially when tagging with Matt like at Mania 33.
Christian vs Randy Orton at Summerslam 2011 was insane too, was there live. Randy getting the insane win with the RKO into the stairs from a jumping Christian,
@@daltonpinell6251 Indeed. This list would us all feel warm and fuzzy in our tum-tums. But it would only be possible with intervention from The Wizard in The Sky, up there in the clouds.
Fun fact: John Cena is the first of only 2 wrestlers to lose the same major title in back to back years at Summerslam (‘13-‘14). The other being Brock Lesnar (‘18-‘19)
Here's the overall fun fact: John Cena's Summerslam losing streak of the 2010s after Summerslam 2010 was Cena competing in championship matches & he LOST all of them(2011, 2012, 2013, 2014 & 2015). Summerslam 2016 was the only non-title match in which John Cena competed & lost since Summerslam 2008.

I definitely put Triple H above Austin as Rock's greatest rival. Around the same age, in the business nearly the same amount of time, Austin seemed more a rival out of circumstance for Rock than a natural rival. Rock and HHH just gave it a feel that these were the modern superpowers and the standard for people to achieve.

Hart winning the IC belt at SummerSlam 1991 has always been my favorite SummerSlam title match. It's interesting that it's not featured in the list but acknowledged by a picture.
The first entry reminds me how insane it is that, if Gunther keeps the IC belt for a little while longer, HTM will become the SECOND longest reigning IC champion
WWF Summerslam 1998: The Highway To Hell LIVE from Madison Square Garden. The culmination of the long rivalry between DX and The Nation. Triple H regains The World Wrestling Federation Intercontinental Championship. The Rock became a "Tweener" by way of the crowd response.
Mizdow turning on The Miz in the Andre The Giant Battle Royal was one of the best moments of Wrestlemania 31. Certainly one of the most overlooked. Mizdow should have won the entire thing. it would have been a great conclusion to their story.

Um, where’s Orton defeating Benoit for the title at Summerslam ‘04 to then become the youngest in history? Lead to his expulsion from Evolution, etc? Definitely deserves a top 10 spot
The Million Dollar title wasn't on the line at WrestleMania 7 . If it had been Virgil wouldve been the new champion because the Million Dollar title was an unofficial title so you could win it on a dq or count out . DiBiase was counted out during an altercation with Roddy Piper at ringside . At SummerSlam DiBiase thought he had the last laugh by making the match like any other title match giving him the championship advantage but after Sensational Sherri interfered in the match referee Earl Hebner had other ideas he ejected Sherri from ringside and let the match continue and after a mid ring collision Virgil was able to crawl over and put an arm over DiBiase for the win . Just for the record Cameron Grimes and Ted DiBiase Jr are also former Million Dollar champions .
Brock Lesnar, the New Undisputed WWE & World Heavyweight Champion, thus retiring "The Big Gold Belt" of The World Heavyweight Championship. 2002 - 2014. And the End of "The Scratch Logo".
thats what still bothered me on the whole montreal screwjob situation - why did they gave Bret the title at Summerslam? Either the financel situation got downhill so fast - but then again, why would you let your champion go? let him lose the title first....

What Brock did to Cena at Summerslam 2014 was something that fans argue that should've happened at Extreme Rules 2012 in Brock's first match back in WWE. Then again, if it did, there probably wouldn't have been the continuation of the feud between John Cena & CM Punk over the WWE championship; Cena probably wouldn't have won or competed in the Money In The Bank Ladder Match at Money In The Bank 2012; Cena wouldn't have feuded with Dolph Ziggler over Dolph's Money In The Bank briefcase or Cena pursuing & achieving his redemption at Wrestlemania 29 against The Rock. "Suplex City" would've won the chant of the year Slammy Award of 2012 at the WWE Slammy Awards instead of Ryback's "Feed Me More."
