Should the Academy expand the Best Director category?! They never should’ve expanded the Best Picture category. Let the butt-hurt be butt-hurt - this culture of wounding over omission is absurd. There were plenty of years - most, in fact - when my favorite films of the year failed to be nominated for Best Picture and Best Director. People just lived with it back then. I suppose we were made of stronger stuff.

Really cool show. Enjoyed your comments about the Oscars. In reference to the best director category, I think the category should be eliminated. And replaced with giving all producers and director(s) an Oscar when a film wins best picture. Some how combine both categories.

​@@VicenteTorresAliasVitsWhen a film wins best picture isn't that a nod to the producers and director for bringing it to fruition? It makes absolutely no sense that a director can win a best director award and go on to loose best picture.

@@awr2217 After watching a movie, people talk about their thoughts on each aspects, such as the acting and the music, right? They also do that with the directing. That's because it requires its own techniques and abilities. A movie can have good directing and bad writing and viceversa. People don't refer to producers that way. Instead, the movie is a whole is called a production. That's not to say it's wrong to give this kind of award to a director. Some Oscar categories do so, as well as other ceremonies that don't separate the categories in the same way. It depends on whether the director is eligible to compete for his individual work or not.

@@VicenteTorresAliasVits Very valid points. I guess it's a challenge for me to understand that if a film is worthy enough to win best picture it should naturally win best director. When the best director award winner differs from the best picture award winner it seems more like a consolation award.

Half the people who want Greta Gerwig nominated only saw one movie in theater this year -- Barbie. MAYBE some saw Oppenheimer as well.
But I guarantee you that the social media outragers have NOT seen Anatomy of a Fall, Poor Things, or Killers of the Flower Moon.
Oh, and Celine Song before Greta Gerwig all day.
