I remember a similar occurrence whilst fishing one day on the Findhorn at Sluie in the gorge pools there. Fortunately I was able to escape up a ladder in the nick of time. Scary stuff.
Some anglers prayers were answered!........I wouldn't have minded spending a few hours with a rod the next day!........does my old heart good to see a good flood rising.......thanks for posting.
I remember when the Findhorn took a day to rise and a week to drop. Deforestation put a stop to that, now it can be up and down in less than two days. Those were indeed happy days.

Whatever the discipline, a stark reminder to all who enjoy being in rivers that attention must be paid to weather forecasts and upstream water rises.

I just read an account of Findhorn in spate by Charles St. John, in an old copy of the Angler’s Weekend Book. Then found this video.
