I loved Zexal I and thought it was a solid start to the series, the first 25 eps felt perfect for setting up the characterizations and relationship dynamics between yuma, astral, shark, and kaito, as well as just a great set up for the whole story and giving an interesting direction and mystery with the numbers. I know some people aren't a fan of the duels in season 2 but every yugioh series has some point where they do comic or lighthearted duels, even DM and 5Ds, so I think it's fine to break up the pacing of the plot. Zexal out of all the yugiohs has the most consistent plot and character developments from the first season to the last and so I think it's worth watching everything to get the best experience from it.

And then Arc - V came after and was the complete opposite of Zexal. A very interesting start followed by a slow,constant descent to madness after the 2nd Reiji vs. Yuya duel
Zexal is literally a copy paste of the original Yugioh and it's really funny how half the show is their attempt to just make worse Yugi and Atem storyline.
EDIT: Shark coming out the way he did in the second half of Zexal is just "What if pre duel monsters Joey Wheeler was revealed to have Kaiba's reincarnation backstory" isn't a shock. I was betting on either him or Kite to copy Kaiba's reincarnation story.
First half of the show I agree. It's just battle city, but instead of Marik it's Tron/Faker doing their Astral/Barian world stuff. Second half I don't really agree since it focused more on the Barian characters giving each of them a story to tell leading up to each of the stories being pitted against one another.
With Shark, I wouldn't say "shock" since it ended up just being a retooling of the entire character into something else entirely. They weren't even willing to commit to anything with Rio until the 2nd half. I find it hard to believe that anyone writing for Zexal had any idea of the direction Zexal II ended up going outside of the Barians existing. Which I mean Battle City was completely different to Duelist Kingdom, so there's that.

@@TheAverageGatsby Well, we were supposed to get a 3rd season focusing on Astral World and Shinning Xyz as the new mechanic for that season, but... alas! It was not meant to be. 😢
@@thermalvoid2695 I just wish we didn't lose so many episodes to the WDC. I get that the format is easy to pump episodes out with, but Zexal II just did everything better than Zexal I, and it's not even close. I would have loved to see more of the emperors getting to do their thing and exploring more of the astral world outside of the one duel we got there
@@TheAverageGatsby You aren't wrong. We had to have Zexal I because Yuma started as a normal inexperienced kid, unlike most Yu-Gi-Oh! protags.
So a tournament arc was the quickest way to realistically improve his skills without breaking the suspension of disbelief.
It is just a shame we hadn't more of Zexal II or even the canned Zexal III. ☹
Zexal was always too weak imo....especially after 5ds.
5D's was just an ABSOLUTE BANGER. Nothing in Zexal gets remotely close to Clear Mind.
