Man, I was just listening to my favorite album from high school. This song came up and I realized... You could never get away with playing a song like this today. We were all a bunch of punk rock or grunge kids, sometimes both... We were depressed, angry and confused. It bled out into our music (in all genre's). Punk wanted their revolution back, grunge just wanted to be against the norm, against the machine, it's own little pile of trash and nothingness that was all so very beautiful. Then came Columbine, and after that... The rest is history.

Green Day always make the best puns. The songs called, 'Having a blast', while the whole time it's talking about a suicide bomber. xD
It's more of a staight-on-point title or somewhat of an ironic one instead of a pun.
its more of the dude from basketcase lost it finally and goes on a killing spree to me then a bomber…cause i think they weren't as common as of now...
ff you perceive the lyrics of this song literally, you’ll see a man who comes to a public place with “explosives duct-taped” to his spine and a murderous plan settled in his brain. He’s going to kill himself and everyone around him and won’t listen to anyone trying to stop him or calm him down. This literal vision of the song gave birth to a theory that the song might be about suicide bombing. However, a closer look at the lyrics along with the fact that at the time the band hasn’t yet started expressing their views on serious political issues shows that most likely the song is about the destructive strength of anger and spiteful memories.
billie is so mad at someone or something in his past (“Do you ever think back to another time?”), some painful memory that scarred him so much that he’s unable to forget it, that he is now mad at the whole world and is ready to “lead a long trail of destruction” as if hurting people around him would avenge his own pain. He’s so irritated and angry that all the small things that bug him keep adding up and override all goodness in him, turning him into a killing machine that doesn’t care about anyone or anything anymore. He’s so blinded by his anger that everything around him, including other people, becomes nothing and all he wants to do is destroy any source of irritation and all the “bullshit that confronts” him just to satisfy the burning anger inside of him. And in that process he also destroys himself.

Green Day has hooks but in the 90s, Billie’s lyrics are actually really clever and creative that deserve more praise
my interpretation of this song is someone that has been irritated by a lot of people, and he has no one to tell about what's bothering him because he keeps growing more and more negative/ pessimistic, so he deals with his feelings internally and all his thoughts that haven't been let out just jumble about into a giant clusterfuck of negativity inside his brain. this causes him to start going a little crazy, since his mind is running so much, and he starts saying or picturing violent things because he's so fed up with everyone that he just wishes they were gone. of course he doesn't actually do it, because it's only an internal struggle of his, but he imagines it regularly and doesn't care that his mind is so dark anymore because he's tired of people's bullshit. and honestly, i can relate.

This song came out when I was in 5th grade. Dookie spoke to me so profoundly though I couldn’t really relate to the lyrics of this song now I see how profound this is. The expressions of a psychoneurotic who allows the other end of the spectrum of psychopath to let loose but is tempered by his sensitive and empathetic nature at the end when he realizes he is just so down and losing his mind but that ultimately it’s just another idea that adds up to nothing like everything else he has pursued in life to that point. This was written before he became a husband and father FWIW
Gahhhhh the drumming!! Tre Cool’s drumming in this album inspired me to want to be a drummer. This song’s a standout for sure.

I was in a really bad time around June. My brother loved Green Day and was playing Green Day rockband. I heard the song Boulevard of Broken Dreams and thought it was good. I looked it up on youtube and saw all the others. I heard 'Time of your Life' and fell deeply in love. I heard other modern ones and some old aswell and loved every single one. Green day was good in the 90s after that they totally lost their edge. This entire album is a masterpiece.
I'd be willing to bet that every song for green day has been put up onto lyric videos at some point. Most of them are just insanely hard to find because of the way UA-cam organizes searches and the related vidoes bar next to each video.This unfortunately includes yours.
