This was his goodbye to his fans. His wife died shortly after the video, he died shortly after that. At the end when he closes the piano cover, it was like the closing of a casket and saying bye.
I was about to write the same thing, but I was also sure that one of you guys would put it here. It's incredibly powerful. This is a cover from the Nine Inch Nails original version (where it is about drug addiction and depression) Cash could truly relate to. But Cash's version is so powerful, that NIN said publicly that "Hurt" is now a Johnny Cash Song. Since this song is kind of a tribute to his life/career and to his fans, on this same album Cash wrote an original song that reflects his outlook on the afterlife too. @@carlpeterson8182 First of all I know Trent wrote the song y'all -- but Johnny decided it applied to himself. Johnny wasn't in charge of the video (except that he could choose to sign off on it, which he did). I don't think the song as Johnny sang it has a Christian message as such, as opposed to e.g. other religions, I think "crown of thorns" is a self-deprecating metaphor as Johnny used it in the song, insulting his own sometime vanity and sometime victim mentality. Of course many of the realizations Johnny was coming to are completely consistent with Christ's message. And with the famous messages about what's really important in other religions, and what's really important to sensible atheists. Johnny never e.g. points upwards in the video like Pharrell Williams, and he might have been agnostic at this point or whatever; he was a good man with a deep, thoughtful message of regret and what matters. If it seems like I'm saying the inserts of Christ in the video _misunderstood_ the self-deprecation in the song itself, yes I think that (or to be more charitable they were laying the irony on thicker, or whatever, if so I think overall they failed). Johnny was not Jesus and he knew it!
I love you guys. You aren't afraid to get deep and really look past the obvious. As a side, he always wore black and I think you'll find his reason why interesting. “I wear the black for the poor and the beaten down, livin' in the hopeless, hungry side of town, I wear it for the prisoner who has long paid for his crime, but is there because he's a victim of the times." @@davidfowler7040 77 here, and the most horrible thing about getting old is outliving all your family and friends. Yes you have the younger members/offspring of your family but you still have this huge empty space that was once your life.
My father almost died in a building fire back in 2003 (he later recovered and lived all the way until 2015) and that day was so hectic (with him being admitted to one hospital and then transferred to another that had a dedicated burn unit), so I was so wrapped up in the parade of moments, I never had a chance to cry (it was the only day in our lives that we said "I love you" to one another, but that's another story). It wasn't until the following morning when this video aired on MTV (yeah, they still played videos then) that I broke down in tears. So, this song and video always brings me back to that moment.
I think they are both great, the original is better in my opinion, listening to the person who actually lived through those emotions and wrote those lyrics just makes it better to me.
@@helpwithsolutions3610 I mostly agree, the original is good, but Johnny's is effing incredible. And for those of you hating on Cameron for his post, grow up, it's his opinion and he's as welcome to it as you are to yours.
Yes watching the video is definitely a must. When Mr Cash died all day long on MTV,VH1,& CMT they all played this video all day long as a remembrance to him may he & June RIP
I don't think either of them would have lasted long without the other after all those years together. I'm pretty sure that Johnny would have ended up self-destructing in some way much earlier in life if he hadn't had June.

Trent said he was unsure about Johny doing this cover because this was such an emotional song for him... after hearing johnnys version he said it was like a man stealing his wife....he made the song his own
Definitely hits different with Cash. Trent wrote it when he was 20 and troubled. However, he had the advantage of still rectifying his wrongs. Cash sang it near the end of his life and you personally feel his regrets knowing there’s little time left to change anything.
T, i watched this video on TV when it came out, John knew he was dying, at the end of the video when he closes the lid on the piano keys, it was his way of closing his own Casket, i damn cried, i have not been able to watch this video for Many years until you posted it, thanks R.I.P. To John, this man had a way of delivering a song, Trent Reznor wrote this song in his bedroom, he did not want john to do it at first, but he allowed him to do it, when Trent saw the video he was Speachless, and glad that John Covered it, Peace Man, Cousin Figel
The video was recorded in February of 2003. His daughter, on seeing a preview of the video, said to him it sounded like he was saying goodbye, he replied that he was. June Carter Cash, his 2nd wife, is the woman sat on the stairs in the video; also a singer in her own right who toured with him and sang with him on several songs. She had come down to check on her husband that day as his health was declining. June Carter Cash passed away a few months after the video recording in May of 2003 and a bereaved Johnny Cash followed her a few months later in the September.
The song is by Trent Reznor of Nine Inch Nails and is about his battle with addiction and depression. Cash also an addict and alcoholic for much of his early life, spending time in Jail on half a dozen occasions for possession. The song encompasses the way both musicians life threads are woven together and entangled across the decades between them, so much so that Trent when he saw the video said it was like loosing his Girlfriend, as the song had become Johnny's. Johnny was a campaigner for prison reform and the rights of Native Americans and much of his material reflected his own passions and darker past. It was June that Cash attributed to rescuing him from his drug and Alcohol addiction a theme of the song. Carter is the person played by Reese Witherspoon alongside Joaquin Phoenix, in the biopic of them: Walk the line. Johnny Cash's star had declined in the 80s and the Museum to his life with the smashed Gold Disk on the Floor, used as one of the backdrops to the video, ended up being shuttered. In the 1990s Rick Rubin and American Recordings more of a Rap, Punk and Metal label sought Cash to record for their label, and offered Cash complete artistic freedom. With them his career revived and he brought out his most critically acclaimed albums, the America series, bringing Cash to a new younger audience; starring on The Simpsons and Headlining at Glastonbury in 1994. The 4th and penultimate album of the America series from which this is one of several Hit Singles: American IV: The Man Comes Around, You may recognise the Title Track too, was released in November of 2002, and he was still working on his final Album right up to the end and that was released posthumously.
It was reported that one of their kids cried when she seen this video became this is her father saying goodbye! This video was made in 2002. His wife, June died in May, 2003 and Johnny died in Sept. 2003. You can see that he was very ill during the video. You can't see it, but June was suffering cancer at that time led to her death in May, 2003. With his illness plus losing love of his life, Johnny died in Sept., 2003. Trent Reznor and Johnny had a mutual friend. Friend is the producer, Rick Rubin. Johnny informed that he wanted to cover NIN's "Hurt" Rick talked to Trent about Johnny doing the song. Trent gave an OK. Trent had some reservations of letting Johnny do the song, but he heard Johnny's version. Trent - I am paraphrasing - This song belongs to Johnny.
That is some paraphrasing. What Trent said is that Cash made the song his own; that is - the cover is all Johnny Cash. The song itself is still one of the most personal songs for Trent.
I could be wrong, but what I read, the cover song was RECORDED in 2002, but the video itself was made in February of 2003, three months before June died, with Johnny following her four months after that. That is seven months after the video was made.
The original is good too. Trent Reznor's version is his own. Johnny Cash made his version his. One about drug usage and his feelings to Trent Reznor. Johnny Cash version was about his mortality. Both outstanding from their point of view.
That was his childhood home near Dyess in NE Arkansas. It was abandoned when he made this video. It's now a museum dedicated to Cash which I'd love to visit.
Johnny Cash grew up very poor in that little shack that you saw, during the depression. His older brother Jack was working at a lumber mill when he was pulled into an unguarded saw and fatally injured, though it would take a week for him to finally succumb to the injuries, while he lay in his bed at home with his family by his side, unable to provide more extensive medical care for him. Johnny went early to the funeral and, at 12 years old, helped to dig his own brother's grave. He carried so much pain throughout his life, and, though faced it and his demons with love and help from June and her family, I think the ghosts of all the pain he carried for so long are palpable when you hear him singing this lament at the end of his life, as he was clearly preparing to leave, himself, and pass on. So beautiful.
He knew he didn't have much time left. He knew wife was the same. This was his last hurrah. I was 12 when his wife passed and 13 when he passed. Dad cried listening to this song when he first sung it. Afterwards he turned to me (I was alone in the car waiting for my brother with dad). He said we had just heard cash for the last time ever and he was right. I cry remembering my father who passed in August 2021. Miss him dearly.
Everytime I watch this video it chokes me up. Yes.....this absolutely was his "Swan Song". It was a very fitting walk through the life of a musical legend. Even though it's a cover of a Nine Inch Nails song. ....Johnny Cash made it his own through his delivery. Trent Reznor, who wrote the song even said. ...."I may have written it, but it belongs to Johnny now". R.I.P. to the Man In Black. If you want some more Johnny Cash tunes to check out, I suggest these classics. Folsom Prison Blues One Piece At A Time A Boy Named Sue As always, Peace and love from Baltimore, Maryland, U.S.A!
I love that the lyrics and Johnny's voice alone got the meaning across even without the video, it's cool that you listened to it first and then saw this incredible video. I also love that this video has the same effect on everyone, we just sit quietly and take it in. Beautiful reaction and interpretations!
If you watched the movie walk the line with Joaquin Phoenix and Reese Witherspoon you will get a spot on look at his life from a young age to an adult. No matter what he could never be good enough to his father after the loss of his brother. It's a great movie regardless and a must watch. Great reaction guys!!
One of the pluses with Walk the Line Reese and Joaquin were chosen by Johnny and June to play them in the movie, they both got to spend a few years with the Cash's to learn there history so it would be authentic to the movie
THE MOST EERIE AND CHILLING PART YOU GUYS IS WHEN HE CLOSES THE PIANO AND SPREADS HIS HANDS ACROSS IT! :( HE'S SAYING GOODBYE, HE'S CHECKING OUT! :( WOWWWWW
So my dad watched this video with me when it first came out. The little white house was the house he was raised in and the "House of Cash" was one of his first house that at one point was turned into a museum. The year before he made this video he had a massive stroke complicated by heart failure. No one expected June to die first...no one. He died just a few months after her as expected because he always said he couldn't live without her. The lady in the picture at the first of the video was his mother whom he adored.
Deep mournful song. As was noted it seems to be a last hoorah type effort and I agree. Another great song that hits those same feels is Glen Campbell's last song "Im not gonna miss you". He was suffering from Alzheimer's. It's heart wrenching.
I worked with Campbell before his Alzheimer's was public. He was out with his kids (mostly) on stage and Kim keeping him tethered. The venue served meals in the showroom and after the band and crew were served, we headed to the line. Glen and Kim came in and we gestured them ahead, "after you, Mr. Campbell." He looked up and offered his hand, "I'm Glen, what's your name? Mr. Campbell is my daddy and he's not here.... uh... is he, Kim?" "No dear, and I don't think he will be" and she kind of nodded at us. During the show he started one song in the wrong key and his daughter tapped him on the shoulder, "dad, we do that in G." He just smiled, moved the capo, and started over. His guitar playing was still very good and it was clear he was enjoying himself on stage. The documentary on his Alzheimer's is an unflinching look at what the disease does. I'm sure the last year was tough for Kim and the kids.
LOVE your take on this! Probably already been said in the comments but that small house was the house he grew up in with his parents and brothers and sisters. They were share croppers in Arkansas. Tasha: you are spot on...where they filmed this was in The House Of Cash museum that was in disrepair at the time. His wife on the staircase? You nailed it. She was not happy he did this. She passed away about 3 months after this was filmed. Johnny passed away about 9 month after her, so about a year after this. When he showed the video to his daughter June Carter Cash she said she didn't like it because it was like he was saying goodbye. He said "Well, I am."
When he watched this video with his daughters they said, "Daddy, its like you are saying goodbye." He looked at them and said, "I am." He died not long after.
One of those people who will always be remembered for his honesty and the love he held for the common man and woman. An open book with many hurtful chapters. Thanks for playing this.
R.I.P. Johnny. We may hurt, but you never let us down. Your music is timeless. I know this was written by Trent Reznor, but it’s yours now and is a perfect cover.
The drug addiction is correct and not kinda. Firstly, the song was written by Trent reznor of nine inch nails and it was about drug addiction. Although the song for Johnny is kinda looking back on life he also went through a period of addiction to amphetamines and barbiturates. So you picked up right but it is also a man looking back on life. And realizing that without his best friend and soulmate (June) it’s really not worth it
Everything you said was true, but I think at the time he was also focusing on all the other people in his life he'd lost, as June was still with him during the making of the song and later the video. It had the shot of his mother in the picture, his childhood home, June of course and his daughter, but possibly other people I'm not familiar with. Certainly the loss of his brother was a significant sorrow he had lived with.
This song chokes me up every time i listen to it. The only song i have ever heard where i actually feel so much emotion coming from the singer. Johnny didn't even write this song yet it feels like a natural fit for him, like it was made for him. Johnny is amazing.
"When the man comes around" would be a good follow up to this song. Johnny was a man of deep Christian faith and I think the imagery of Christ interspersed with lyrical content about his empire of dirt brought out Johnny's feelings about his faith at the end of his life. James 4:14 "whereas you do not know what will happen tomorrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapor that appears for a little time and then vanishes away."
The eerie closing of the panio at the end feels like he is closing the casket of music. This song is such a master piece and will forever be legendary.
One of the other things that I should point out is The Shattered Columbia framed record on the floor. After all the hits that Johnny had for them they dropped him from the label in 1986 after 28 yrs .
June passed just before Johnny did so her appearance is scary foreshadowing...his material is just amazing just good good music he was praised by everyone of every music genre Public Enemy praised him as well as metal bands....you should listen to His rendition of Before my time...cannot listen to it without bursting into tears
Yea man, this was deep. I felt every inch of this song. I didn’t want to cry on camera so mid way I had to think about something else. It looked like he was ready to check out.
I think Johnny never got over the death of his big brother and the fact that his father blamed him for it as Johnny left his brother alone at the mill, when they were always told to stay with each other. There was an horrendous accident and his brother was killed. I think Johnny tried all his life to get close to God for forgiveness. I guess you have to forgive yourself first. No one delivers a song like him or covers a song as well as Johnny
personally, i feel this was a goodbye to his children, his wife, his fans, and the world. He was reflecting on his life and the was regret. Kills me every single time this song. I can watch it 5 times back to back and shed tears every time! Definitely in my top 10 for life!!
I’m 15. I watched the Logan trailer minutes after it came out, and that’s where I discovered this song. ...Years later, it’s my favorite movie. That trailer is my favorite trailer. And this song is my favorite song. I listen to this song everyday. It’s amazing and it’s beautiful. ...When I get older, I know ‘Logan’ and this song will resonate differently.
I remember going to The House of Cash when it was open. It was pretty interesting. The "One Piece at a Time" Cadillac was parked there. I understand that there is a new Cash museum in Nashville. I haven't been to it since I haven't lived in Tennessee for many years. I lived in Memphis from '85 to '88 and went to Nashville several times when I lived there.
Yeah, the video... adds a whole other dimension to it. This was one of those lightning moments, with the right filmmaker, the right artist, the right song, in the right place. Something special came out of it. Still get goosebumps listening.
Johnny Cash's biggest song was probably ring of fire, which of actually pretty good! You should do that one. June Carter (his wife in this video) wrote it for him, I think before they were even a thing. He was hung up on her for a long time before they ever married. You should seriously watch the walk the line movie sometime. Again, not a country guy, but a good song is a good song and the movie was really good. Glad you two did this. 🖤 You should do more megadeth too. Always more megadeth. 🖤🖤🖤
I heard someone say in an interview that when Johnny was a kid, he was a fan of the Carter family and he said that he was going to marry June one day. Don't remember who said it, or what interview it was.

I can't believe nobody said this yet. He remade this nine inch nails song near his death. After it happened Trent Reznor made a comment that it wasn't his song anymore. It belongs to Johnny. That cuts deep. It means a lot to me personally because (I'm old) I saw Johnny cash perform at the world fair in Knoxville, tn, in 1982. i was 10. My dad was not a big music guy but he grabbed me by the collar and told me to listen to this guy because he is important. It didn't mean anything to me as a young man but I remembered. Months after he died I finally found an opportunity to cry. It was when I was alone and I heard this song for the first time.
Your Dad knew a good man when he saw one, may they rest in peace. If you were 10 in '82 you're not old. Plenty of time to start again, the one thing Johnny didn't have 💓
Recorded just a couple of months before he died. Such a great way to walk away. So many feel this way and hurt as they reach this age. I love the look on his wife's face while he is sitting there playing.
John R. The greatest of all . I sat here thinking what to say and no other words seemed to fit. Thanks John for this song. It’s brings me to tears everytime I listen to it all.
This song, coupled with this video, is very emotional for me. I grew up listening to Johnny Cash and I'm a big fan of his. He and his music was and still is a big part of my life. I've read his story countless times. His struggles growing up, his sore relationship with his father, his battle with substance abuse, his relentless pursuit of June Carter, who truly was his soulmate (Johnny died shortly after June, people say he died of a broken heart) I was barely in my preteens when they passed away and when I got word of Johnny's passing, it was like losing a member of the family. Thank you guys so much for doing this.
I am 56 years old now and whenever I watch this Song and Music with Johnny Cash, tears run down my Cheeks, also when he and His wife June can be seen together in this video, and I think with this Song he made his Peace with Himself. Johnny Cash is and always will be a Legend.

I've been watching quite a few of these "Hurt" reactions and they are so very similar in their effect on the listener. This song forces the listener to think about things they usually are trying NOT to think about because it's driving the deep questions right into the heart of those hearing it. Meaning "Why are we here?" "Where am I going?" "How should I be living?" What have I been living for and how?" "What is really Important in life?". Then when they are done it's so often silence and difficulty describing what they are thinking or feeling. "Hurt" is an "Anointed" song and Johnny's video especially.
Thanks for sharing. That was Johnny's home where he grew up. He died just months after this song. He was a rebel in his younger days and this is his attempt to atone. He was a spiritual man. RIP
The montage is his life passing before his eyes, before he died, like what happens when we die. It’s not about his childhood, but his whole life, and the anguish he may have felt about his choices. He captures the fame, addiction, prison time. It’s s a powerful adieu or farewell. Thank you for your reaction! ❤️
Always an emotional storm when I experience (not only watch) this song. It takes me from sadness to smiles to regretful rememberence to hope and faith. Although a most favorite I rarely (once every couple of months) play it compared to my other favorites. This will never be just background or mood music to me, I hope others will take a moment and immerse themselves with it.
The short little image of the Man in Black fading to black right after the song gets me everytime. And you can tell he knows he's closing that piano for the last time. Truly a great man.
You guys nailed it. His daughter (who is an accomplished singer/songwriter in her own right) watched the video and said "Dad, it seems like youre saying goodbye." He replied with, "I am"
Yes. That was his childhood home. It has since been taken over by a foundation, and a university and been completely renovated and decorated exactly the way it was during his childhood. The flood image was a real event here in Eastern Arkansas when he was a child that affected thousands of people.
I'm a fan and I reacted. I truly love you guys. You can't fake your cemestery. I'll watch anything anything you guys do. June and Johnny wouldn't have it anyway.

@@davidfowler7040 77 here, and the most horrible thing about getting old is outliving all your family and friends. Yes you have the younger members/offspring of your family but you still have this huge empty space that was once your life.
I'm a 54 year old retired Army combat veteran and you 2 are harder than me. I tear up every time I see this video.
Same here. Puts a knot in my throat.
Me too Mike. I've watched it probably 50 times and it rips me up every time! Especially when he says "my sweetest friend "
@@walterbennett8032 same here, breaks me every single time
My father almost died in a building fire back in 2003 (he later recovered and lived all the way until 2015) and that day was so hectic (with him being admitted to one hospital and then transferred to another that had a dedicated burn unit), so I was so wrapped up in the parade of moments, I never had a chance to cry (it was the only day in our lives that we said "I love you" to one another, but that's another story). It wasn't until the following morning when this video aired on MTV (yeah, they still played videos then) that I broke down in tears. So, this song and video always brings me back to that moment.
Thank you for your service.
Trent Reznor who wrote hurt has said it's now Cash's song after hearing this cover
i don't give two shits for the original. this version hits me right in the feels.
I think they are both great, the original is better in my opinion, listening to the person who actually lived through those emotions and wrote those lyrics just makes it better to me.
@@helpwithsolutions3610 Then you're a fuckin' idiot. Reznor is a brilliant songwriter.
@@helpwithsolutions3610 What a shitty thing to say. If you love the song you should show respect to the person who created it.
He died of complications of diabetes, and a broken heart after losing June.
I don't think either of them would have lasted long without the other after all those years together. I'm pretty sure that Johnny would have ended up self-destructing in some way much earlier in life if he hadn't had June.
Like these two shit on whites give a damn.
@@grindfreakmike5754 what?
I just want to say that you are two of the most impressive people doing "reaction" videos that I've seen. Your insight, empathy and intelligence make listening to your reactions so worthwhile. This is the first time I've watched you and I look forward to many more of your videos. And I really think Johnny Cash would have appreciated your "take" on this as well. Glad I found your channel!
Thank you, we really appreciate this.
I would like to add to that the width of stuff we watch with you is wider than anyone, just sayin you arent my only reaction friends no offense meant, but I really care about you alot
Trent said he was unsure about Johny doing this cover because this was such an emotional song for him... after hearing johnnys version he said it was like a man stealing his wife....he made the song his own
heroine. Cash is a legend. An amazing artist. I'm glad they were both able to create such amazing songs with this.
Definitely hits different with Cash. Trent wrote it when he was 20 and troubled. However, he had the advantage of still rectifying his wrongs. Cash sang it near the end of his life and you personally feel his regrets knowing there’s little time left to change anything.
I almost can't watch this, it's such a beautiful goodbye.
probably one of the greatest covers i've ever heard.
This was an incredibly sad video. It made me think of my Grandpa
@@TheAdventuresofTNT T, I hear ya there, Cousin Figel
From what I know Johnny originally
didn't want to do this song as a cover. I'm really glad he did.
I can usually hold it together until they show June on the staircase. The thousand emotions in her expression makes me cry every time.
This makes me weep like a child every time.
me too
Me too because I have loved his music and this is the last song he performed as a goodbye to all of us fan's.
Your story is on point!
This song belonged to Johnny Cash. It’s like he knew the song was his final curtain. 😞
I don't know if June had cancer or not, but she died after having a heart valve replaced. I've never heard that she had cancer.
@@Seastallion That's possible.
I've seen almost a dozen reactions to this song and you are the only ones to get the meaning.
It doesnt matter how many times I hear Johnny Cash "Hurt". That one freaking tear always comes out...
You should do the original version by Nine Inch Nails to really appreciate where Johnny Cash went with his rendition. Completely different feel to it.
I have listened to the original and I like Johnny's better
So did they, they gave him their song because of what he did with it. Profound on both ends.
The original is good too. Trent Reznor's version is his own. Johnny Cash made his version his. One about drug usage and his feelings to Trent Reznor. Johnny Cash version was about his mortality. Both outstanding from their point of view.
This was his goodbye. His kids said it sounded like he way saying goodbye, and he said, "I am."
That was his childhood home near Dyess in NE Arkansas. It was abandoned when he made this video. It's now a museum dedicated to Cash which I'd love to visit.
His daughter, singer Rosanna Cash, said “dad it was like your goodbye.” He said, “I am.”
Can’t watch this without bawling 😭 Grew up listening to his music in our house 🎸🎤🎸

He had a way of making you feel his music and all the emotion in it for him
Deep mournful song.
Also, when his daughter heard this song for the firat time she said it sounded like he was saying goodbye, and he said well, I am.
This and Davis Bowie's goodbye video kills me Everytime
Timeless
This songs gets me every time i hear it. Knowing the story of jonny cash and the hurt between each word is heartbreaking
Yay I looooove this song. You can never go wrong with Johnny Cash ❤️❤️❤️ Yes I did comment on an earlier video before I saw this one so my bad lol.
It's like he knew this was his final song when closed the piano 💔❤
Cash's parents were shear croppers and that was the house he was raised in.
This is a soul song..ur last cry to the universe. Its rage and sadness. Its happiness and sorrow. Ur life experience..
It was ! She (June)died before this video came out, he died very soon after the video came out. He could not live another day without her
I love Johnny Cash i grew up with his music he left a great legacy A man with a big heart a great voice RIP Man in black ,,,
Johnny Cashs' sweetest friend was also his wife
Really glad you went back and took a look at the video. It adds something extra to what is already a devastating song.
True. So few know that story.
personally, i feel this was a goodbye to his children, his wife, his fans, and the world.
It was where he was raised. What have I become? Old... I can't watch it without crying, and I'm not a country music fan. Awesome. Poignant.
I can’t compose myself with this video...it kills me. Every. Single. Time.

My grandmother and his wife ( June Cater Cash daughter of Maybell Addinton Carter) were second cousins.

This song never fails to move me when he sings it.
House of Cash was a museum
Song tears me up every time. I've never seen/heard anyone cover then own a song like this. Even Trent from NIN said so. Johnny Cash. Legend.
He had a long battle with alcohol and drug addiction throughout his life
POWERFUL - no other way to say it! A Legend among Legends!
the video features real footage of the johnny cash museum in disrepair/run down- at this time he wasn t remembered the way he should be
I remember going to The House of Cash when it was open.
What a lovely lovely couple you both are. Thank you for being in this world.
RIP Johnny Cash
Yeah, the video... adds a whole other dimension to it. This was one of those lightning moments, with the right filmmaker, the right artist, the right song, in the right place. Something special came out of it. Still get goosebumps listening.
"What have I become, my sweetest friend. Everyone ik goes away in the end".
U ruined it by using ik instead of I know... Smh
Man, this is the best and right on point on explaining Cash's Hurt. Great job.
You should do more megadeth too. Always more megadeth. 🖤🖤🖤
I heard someone say in an interview that when Johnny was a kid, he was a fan of the Carter family and he said that he was going to marry June one day. Don't remember who said it, or what interview it was.

This is always the reaction video I look for on someone's channel. Not just the song, but the video. It's haunting.
Plenty of time to start again, the one thing Johnny didn't have 💓
@@gd8839 I'm getting there. Thanks for the kind thought.
Recorded just a couple of months before he died. Such a great way to walk away. So many feel this way and hurt as they reach this age. I love the look on his wife's face while he is sitting there playing.
He was a progressive decent man, too.
Thank you a lot of people just want to call him a junkie and put him down for the life he led . So thank you again .

The greatest of all .
I sat here thinking what to say and no other words seemed to fit. Thanks John for this song. It’s brings me to tears everytime I listen to it all.
I could be wrong but I heard he died shortly after this recording.
His wife who you saw on the stairs died two months after the video was made. He died five months after that.
June Carter's Mom and Aunt and Uncle basically started country music.
Mother Maybelle
Not really have you listened to them ?
I am 56 years old now and whenever I watch this Song and Music with Johnny Cash, tears run down my Cheeks, also when he and His wife June can be seen together in this video, and I think with this Song he made his Peace with Himself.
Johnny Cash is and always will be a Legend.
this song is a Cover on the Nine Inch nail song but there sound like go through the drug addiction and wanting to be clean and Johnny sound like he reflecting on his
I've been watching quite a few of these "Hurt" reactions and they are so very similar in their effect on the listener. This song forces the
listener to think about things they usually are trying NOT to think about because it's driving the deep questions right into the heart of
those hearing it. Meaning "Why are we here?" "Where am I going?" "How should I be living?" What have I been living for and how?" "What is
really Important in life?". Then when they are done it's so often silence and difficulty describing what they are thinking or feeling. "Hurt" is an "Anointed" song and Johnny's video especially.
Johnny... his cover is the BEST and just hits home...no one can tell a story like Johnny.
This song makes me cry every time I listen to it
Thanks for sharing.
His daughter (who is an accomplished singer/songwriter in her own right) watched the video and said "Dad, it seems like youre saying goodbye."
He replied with, "I am"
Yes. That was his childhood home. It has since been taken over by a foundation, and a university and been completely renovated and decorated exactly the way it was during his childhood.
The flood image was a real event here in Eastern Arkansas when he was a child that affected thousands of people.
That ending always gives me chills and tears. I was a fan of johnny's before I was born ❤
I'm a fan and I reacted. I truly love you guys. You can't fake your cemestery. I'll watch anything anything you guys do. June and Johnny wouldn't have it anyway.
