Bellowhead deserve way more Radio time than they're getting because they have imagination and are all really talented! Well, they have to be talented they were in the last 3 nominees for Britains best live act and they've won it before!
The very tradition of folk music has been based around evolution. The folk scene has moved on from fat bearded men with their guitars (although I'm not saying said fat men are now obsolete). Bellowhead are the embodiment of the evolution that's kept the British folk scene alive over the centuries and you simply can't call this not folk music; the song is over 100 years old!
The reference was to the Radio 1 controllers who gave us a breakfast host we didnt want and wont play certain songs even though they do the Chart and although this certain song sold close to 140,000 unit last week,
i watch this every day it makes me laugh but i wish they would make a dvd full of music videos i bet it would be a big hit with bellowhead fans and you could enjoy the music and watch them larking around!
I heard them live on the radio yesterday, I'm guessing it was the same broadcast you heard? Radio 2 in particular is great for discovering new music. :)
reminds me a little of a song sam larner a norfolk fisherman sang. way back in late 50s. clear away the morning dew.Saying that very catchy tune They havent made a bad job of it.
Great fun, thanks for posting. If you like this you should (if you don't know it) look up Martin Carthy & John Kirkpatrick who had a band a little like this called 'Brass Monkey' (back in the 70s).
Umm, if you don't like Bellowhead, don't listen to it. Some people do. Don't spoil our fun. No-one wants to hear your hate. Enjoy the music you enjoy and stay away from what you don't.
Not to sound Hipster, but you realise that Bellowhead have been around longer than the Mumfords? Also, I would hardly consider Mumford and Sons to be 'folk' or at least not in the same way Bellowhead are. Mumford and Sons play contemporary songs in an acoustic fashion, whereas Bellowhead play songs from the tradition with a contemporary arrangement. They play the kind of songs that have stood the test of time, and still exist despite the introduction of modern mainstream music.
Couldn't disagree more. They are a fantastic live band and they deserve every bit of 'mainstream' exposure they get, and much more. I don't get it...even if you don't like this kind of music, how can you decry them and seek to deny them exposure when the 'mainstream' consists mainly of manufactured pap and soul-less, talentless wannabees? There are lots of performers I don't really like, but if they play their own instruments and write or arrange their own music, they get my vote.
In terms of variety of instruments, Bellowhead wins easily. In terms of accesibility for the modern processed music rabble, yes, Mumford and Son's is well good.. innit. I love both bands, dunno why you have to put one against the other.
Hardly 'bandwagon jumping' when the band members have all grown up as folk musicians, and have built up a reputation for themselves as independent musicians. I think you might be confusing real folk music (i.e Bellowhead, Show of Hands) with 'nu-folk'. There is a difference.
So is there only allowed to be a certain number of folk bands that are popular at any one time maybe only 3 and the rest are just jumping on the band wagon or is it that some people like to think of themselves as being "different" by following the folk scene but then when it gets popular they want it to go back into obscurity is it musical snobbery perhaps
God Forbid something might become Popular...It's good for all of Folk music to have some cross over, will you level the same criticism at Kate Rusby? Or maybe Eliza Carthy or Seth Lakeman? It sounds like Musical snobbery to me mate.
I hate to break it to you, but this ain't folk music. In fact, if you think this is anything but overproduced tripe you don't know a thing about folk music. Sorry.
Umm, if you don't like Bellowhead, don't listen to it. Some people do. Don't spoil our fun. No-one wants to hear your hate. Enjoy the music you enjoy and stay away from what you don't.
Best band ever!
Been listening Bellowhead almost every day since I saw them at Glastonbury 2011.
Bellowhead deserve way more Radio time than they're getting because they have imagination and are all really talented! Well, they have to be talented they were in the last 3 nominees for Britains best live act and they've won it before!
I saw them too! They were incredible, weren't they? Watching more and more of the crowd bouncing up and down with every song they sung was wonderful.
Recently moved over from the music snobs at radio1.. this is one of the reasons im pleased i did!!
This video is hilarious. It must have been so much fun to make
i have watched this soo many times, and as much as the song is great, i just keep coming back for the ending. "it's up my nose"

That's hilarious! Don't know much about the group but laugh out loud reaction from me. I will continue to listen to group to see if you're accurate.
Maybe some of us like it? It's fun, it's uplifting and it's been part of our culture for centuries. What's not to love?

@BTWynn98 "The folk scene has moved on from fat bearded men with their guitars..." Wow, you've got some 'issues' haven't you.
superb arrangement...
They must have had so much fun making this video :)
I'd love to dress up as a pirate, go on a picnic and play some tunes with Bellowhead! haha :)
Wonderful song! I drove everyone crazy with it today.
The reference was to the Radio 1 controllers who gave us a breakfast host we didnt want and wont play certain songs even though they do the Chart and although this certain song sold close to 140,000 unit last week,
I SPENT TWENTY MINUTES SEARCHING THIS? it was worth it
If you dont like it dont view/listen to it your opinion is a personal thing dont impose it on people who just want to enjoy a song
These guys are awesome, remind me of Great Big Sea.
i watch this every day it makes me laugh but i wish they would make a dvd full of music videos i bet it would be a big hit with bellowhead fans and you could enjoy the music and watch them larking around!
No, it isn't folk music, but they have taken the main elements and ideas of folk music and turned it into something wonderful for a modern audience.
Crackin' stuff
Brilliant tune!!! :-)
So much fun
15th Oct it says in the blurb.
Just been on Radio 2 now .:)
Brilliant! When is the album out?
I am here because Bellowhead was mentioned on the Tuesday Club Arsenal Podcast. True.
I heard them live on the radio yesterday, I'm guessing it was the same broadcast you heard? Radio 2 in particular is great for discovering new music. :)
Magic. As always. Cant wait for the CD or the tour. Only got tickets for 4 of the gigs. Is that overkill?
reminds me a little of a song sam larner a norfolk fisherman sang. way back in late 50s. clear away the morning dew.Saying that very catchy tune They havent made a bad job of it.

Umm, if you don't like Bellowhead, don't listen to it. Some people do. Don't spoil our fun. No-one wants to hear your hate. Enjoy the music you enjoy and stay away from what you don't.
Radio 2? That's why I'm here too. :)

Yes it was.

Unless you didn't notice, that was not aimed at you.
I love this song! Hould have had Johnny Depp in the video though!

Folky pirate food fight, hmm... Works for me
I love this band!! They only play non-very classic irish song!! I was bored of whiskey in the jar´s cover. Long live Bellowhead!!
It's not an Irish song it's English as is most of their repertoire.
BBC Radio 2?
Maybe they were all pirates who don't like pie.
Couldn't disagree more. They are a fantastic live band and they deserve every bit of 'mainstream' exposure they get, and much more. Surely if you do not like it then simply do not listen to it??? Or is that to simple?
marvellous!
"Pirates. Pirates can happen to anyone"(c) Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are dead
Weeheeee!
Almost as good as Dan Milner's version... Aww, this song is so sweet :')
In terms of variety of instruments, Bellowhead wins easily. In terms of accesibility for the modern processed music rabble, yes, Mumford and Son's is well good.. innit.
I love both bands, dunno why you have to put one against the other.
it's a bit diddly diddly
You're a bit late treacle
Yeah go real ale. You go girl vent your anger at that computer screen, your so controversial with your out there comments oooh it's edgy
maybe

ha ha do we all listen to radio 2 lol
Should've shown them the plank.

radio 2
14 people dislike this?
no not really but i bet you do !!!
They're a bit diddly diddly.
Sorry broadside
This is the best song on hedonism
God Forbid something might become Popular...It's good for all of Folk music to have some cross over, will you level the same criticism at Kate Rusby? Or maybe Eliza Carthy or Seth Lakeman? It sounds like Musical snobbery to me mate.
Ruined a good song
