British. Chieftain. tanks were powered by. engines. provided by British. leyland and with anything British Leyland does its unreliable as fuck so makes sense
Smoothbore is very common nowadays because of the heavy usage of fin stabilized munitions. I believe britain kept rifled barrels for so long because they used solid shot rounds alot longer. most explosive and kinetic rounds used in the modern day are stabilized by fins on the back of the round
No we kept rifled barrels for so long because of how good that particular gun is and it's more accurate than the smoothbore. We ultimately decided to change to a smoothbore purely for cost reasons with how many MBT's now use smoothbore barrels ammunition for smoothbore barrels is a lot cheaper to buy, and saves a bit of maintenance costs of the rifled barrel. The only ammunition we use on the rifled is a HESH round and an APFSDS round AKA Fin round.
@alexwood724 if it's more accurate than the smoothbore, would it not then make sense for the British army not to switch? You already don't have very many tanks so the cost can be justified, as well, I'm not entirely sure the claim that it's more accurate than the smoothbore is true, if you can show me then great I'd love to learn. Also me mentioning Britain's usage of solid shot was more so to explain in a way that using rifled barrels for longer could be seen as a holdover from that decision, even though Britain adopted fin stabilized rounds quite a while ago.

@@codyr504 Nothing like it. You need to break the track (disconnecting one side from the other). I used to drive Mk.11's like that one for a living. They were still being used as front-line gun tanks until 1992 (some units retained a few until much later too) and in that version you have exactly the same gun, gun control kit and Thermal Observation and Gunnery Sights (TOGS was not IR, it was MUCH better) as the newer Challenger 1 MBT, (the seller was in error though, Chally 2 does not share the same gun and it has completely more modern fire control kit) with a half awake crew a Mk.11 Chieftain could still spoil anything on the battlefields morning and the L11A5 120mm rifled gun is still the record holder for the longest direct Tank v Tank kill in combat. A few words of advice lads, regular halt parades (check your track tension and adjust manually) always rev the engine down after use for cool off, don't just kill switch it immediately off, the Leyland L60 in the back is her Achilles heel sadly so treat it gently where you can, it's basically a badly made copy of the WWII German Jumo 207 aero diesel engine. Oh the most important thing, NEVER run the L60 past 2500 RPM, as you can get an engine runaway, where basically it will rev itself to destruction (even if you kill the power, it will keep going) and you don't want to be near the wagon if the lump goes Super Nova in the back. We were instructed in the event of a runaway, aim the wagon up a hill and let the crew bail out., because when the engine goes boom you don't want to be in the vicinity - TRUST ME! Oh and ask any Chieftain crew what the scariest job was, they should answer replacing the suspension spring pack - changing those is the best laxative known to man, done wrong the nested springs will go off like an artillery round and fly down range with bits of whoever was stood in front of them attached!
@@Theo_Jakobsen thanks my first proper job out of school in the late 1980's was to join the army at 17 years of age and drive these bad boys. The best thing I like most about Cody, is he’s true to himself. It’s hard to find genuine UA-camrs nowadays. Congrats on the tank Cody, the chieftain is a badass tank.
scam lol
He's true to his fans.
I love this guy he knows that land doesn't necessarily mean money just like my family we got a lot of land but that's just because of homesteads and not money we are poor as can be sadly
i enjoyed the tank lore at the end Joe seems to know everything
Really enjoyed that last 10 minutes of you guys just talking about tanks, pretty cool to see cody not acting 24/7.
Agreed
everything they said was wrong but ok

Well holy shitballs. I was expecting DemoRanch to get a tank before anyone but you went and did it. Congratulations. Cant wait to see you drive through buildings with that.
Demo had a tank but he sold it quickly lol
And just think, Brandon left FREE tanks in Afghanistan 😂😂😂😂
They need to collab and slap Demo’s M2 on it!
yeah, the shop door will guaranteed get it first thing.

I would but with all the scams going on how do I know this is Cody
The more and more videos he uploads, the more convinced I am that this man lives inside of GTA Online.
I could watch these four guys learn about tanks all day!
Congrats
Only Cody can break a tank *even twice* in a single video
💀
its his first tank, with time he will be on track for a second
i mean a hilux can last longer with cody then a tank, i mean even doh a tank runs over a tree i dont see a hilux do that, you know what he needs a LIFT kit for the tank lol
we break them all the time in the army
British. Chieftain. tanks were powered by. engines. provided by British. leyland
and with anything British Leyland does its unreliable as fuck so makes sense
I do believe this guy is gonna survive the apocalypse with this baddy.
“We have to deactivate the gun, it’s going to America which makes no sense to me…”

This Joe fella really knows his shit. Definitely a good guy to know if you own a tank.
He’s done this stuff for years. He also flogged a tank to someone with a load of gold bullion hidden inside once

Loved the ending of the video with y’all just having a great convo about things that y’all like. It’s cool to see genuine people having good conversations with each other. Most celebrities don’t do things like this so thank you.
Can we take a minute to appreciate how fast he set the camera down to give his fan some attention?! “Are you whistlindiesel?” Right away set the camera down and said yea whats up!! Full attention went to his fan. Gotta love it.. Humble as can be!
When he said that just the turret weights 10 tons over the other "tank" I got chills

The wonderment in WD's eyes when he notices all the trucks are cab-overs is truly heartwarming
I loved when camera dude saw the tank.
That's normal over here what's the big deal 🤷🏻♂️🤣

Hire that Brit tank mechanic, and bring him back to Tennessee. Dude seems like he'd fit right in. He'd be like the crazy smart tech guy on the team in a bank heist movie.
As a former Tank mechanic who has recovered many tanks, I couldn't help but smile when I saw the scene get darker as you were repairing the track 🤣 Shits not easy.
I am just potentially asking a stupid question but having worked on excavator tracks and stuff is preparing or changing a tank truck similar to working on the undercarriage of a let's say caterpillar 350 excavator?
@@codyr504 I would assume it's very similar.
God I hope he paid those guys because that's a lot of work.
@@codyr504 Nothing like it. You need to break the track (disconnecting one side from the other). You also need special tools to reconnected the 2 ends and as well as a bunch of other shit to get it back on the sprocket or whatever part it came off of. @whistlindiesel
This is a great deal of knowledge. Glad to see someone educated about this trying to help him keep it in a good stand. Hope they see this
