I'm from Brazil, living in Seattle now and just gotta say thank you for teaching so well! You're my favorite at all. Love watching all your videos. Please, keep being an amazing teacher like that! :) Have a great day! :)
I´m so happy, because I get understand everything you said, thanks for help people who need to learn English like me. Alex you are awesome. Congratulations!!!
Hi Alex! I've watched many of your videos with my students. They are always interesting and thorough. Today, I'm writing a comment for the first time, only because I'd be fantastic if you could post many more videos on books. I don't really care about the genre; I feel like having somebody to teach you new words in a catchy way doesn't really need a specific book... I used to be an avid reader of Lobsang Rampa, now, after a family with two kids, no maid, no babysitter, and a half-time job; reading for myself is very much a 5 min activity I can do a couple of times a week. Anyway, Please, keep doing this kind of videos!
Thank you for this video, Alex! I like the idea of a video on "1984", by George Orwel. I hope you'll be able to provide us a lesson based on this book. Hugs from Brazil.
+Lucas Jordao Silva Thanks for the feedback, Lucas. 1984 is one of my all-time favourite novels. I'd love to do a lesson on it at some point. It's definitely on my mind.
Thanks a lot, Alex!!! It was very useful and extremely catching!!! It would be great if you could give some more lessons based on some other popular books or movies.
Hey Alex, I've read this book before ( French version). Hope you enjoy it :). after I saw this video I think I'm ready to read the English version. Thanks for the video. Your lessons are really inspiring us as an english learners, thank you for that :). Have a nice day.
+Max Djj That's awesome to read! Thanks for your support, Max! I've read The Hunger Games in English already. I hope I'll be able to finish it in French one day. :)
For me, you might proceed with this format. I join because you discussed a lot of words and your signification. I'm trying learn english and get a better pronunciation. Tks so much!!!!
I'm studying English in Canada, Language Center in Casablanca and my first book is the Alchemist has written by Paulo Coelho I didn't finish it yet but I'm learning a lot of new words Thanks for your lessons ^^
Hat off to you, sir for this nice video.I love the way you teach. I have bought all 3 books of the Hunger Games. I am going to start reading it. Thank you for your recommendation.
Professor Alex your classes are simply awesome. I am learning many things from it. You are very good in what you do, congratulations. Can you talk about engineering terms someday? Thanks.
+ka0miks Thanks! So far, the reaction has been very positive. A few people have suggested I do a similar video for Harry Potter. I will seriously have to consider it if this feedback continues.
A great video. It is quite a stimulation to actually read or listen to the book, or both. Let me suggest an idea for the future. I would like very much similar approach to some TV shows for example Cold Case. All the slang, legal terminology, police jargon and mostly the fast and casual manner of speaking are hard to understand. Thanks, Keep up the good work,
+Aripova Dilnora Nice suggestion, Aripova! I'd like to choose books that many people have heard of and read, though. Books like The Hunger Games, Harry Potter, etc.
+Tommaso Lemma I appreciate that, Tommaso. Thank you. By the way, "advice" is not countable. :) Just say "full of great advice." If you want to count advice, you have to say "full of great pieces/bits of advice.""I've got two pieces/bits of advice for you...""She gave me three great pieces/bits of advice..."Use "pieces" or "bits" to count advice.
Nice material for learning more vocabularies. It's easy to understand and remember, a natural way. Tks very much for your inspiration. Hope u have more time to make many helpful videos like that :)
😍😍thanks a lot it's very helpful I'm asking you if you don't mind to make a videos about the other hard words in the other chapters if that's even possible ???
I haven't either read or watched The Hunger Games movie. Now I'm interested about reading the novel. I love adventures, especially stories that take place in a post-apocalyptic scenary. Thanks for the suggestion. I also love Sherlock Holmes tales. They're packed with vocabulary, and the stories kept me curious all the time, which moved me to read on more and more. Thanks for one more lesson, teacher Alex. I love your videos! Btw I've recommended your channel to a few friends of mine who are learning Engish like me. See you!
+mysecretplacewithyou Thank you so much for spreading the word.I love the Sherlock Holmes short stories and novels. There are some more difficult words, but for the most part, they're great books to use when improving your English.
+Rogério Tamazia Thanks for your feedback. I will likely try a couple of more videos in this style. They take more work, but if students like them, it's worth the effort!
+Crown Gamers You're welcome! Thanks for checking out my videos. I'm always happy to read comments from students who have improved their English through these lessons.
Hi Alex, I learnt fabulous vocabularies with video can you please you make videos like this it much very useful to learn vocabulary with good examples. I really appreciate you given good video
+ninaandianfan21 Thanks, nina. I can't make all of my videos like this right now, but maybe in the future, I'll be able to. :) I think I'll definitely do a similar one for Harry Potter in the future.
+English Lessons with Alex (engVid AlexESLvid) of course ;) and yes Harry Potter would be a great choice. I learned English with the help of HP and the vampire diaries without even realizing it at first :D
+Jecineide Carvalho Nice. I'll give them a look when I have a little more time. I have around 30 books on my bookshelf that I need to get through first!
+Sona Pavlikova That always helps. Like I said in the video, I've read the book in English, so trying to read it in French is a LITTLE easier. Just a little. :)
I love this format. i would recommend two books. The first"Animal Farm" by George Orwell, the second(my favorite and my first English book reading ) "Spoon River Anthology"Lee Master written in 1915 (please read 'Conrad Siever' epitaph.).Thanks
I know so. i have an american friend from Baltimora that lived in Italy like me who haven't even heard about Spoon River. Initially the writer began publishing this epitaph in episodes on The Mirror of St Louis(1914) and later made a book. I think the study of books are interesting. But I think the study about movies are amazing. As you did in Star Wars. And can ben any movie that you want to see.
Hey Alex! This is good style to increase our vocabulary through books. But I really like your another vedio that is on learn english with HP book. Please do vedios like that so we can understand books in better way!
Great option the one you just gave us. I have personally found it an enriching activity but, when I read harry potter I couldn't help notice that British writers tend to use words that are not that common used by American writers, which makes it a bit more challenging because of the massive amount of new words. Can you give us some options related british literature? thanks
+Johnny Valencia Good question. Some of my favourite British writers: J.K. Rowling (Harry Potter) C.S. Lewis (Chronicles of Narnia) George Orwell (1984 and Animal Farm) Roald Dahl (Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, and other children's stories) ... Arthur Conan Doyle (Sherlock Holmes...a little more difficult)
I enjoyed a lot this video, Alex. After this video, I got motivated to read Hunger Games series. Please, keep making this kind of videos from books. I could suggest Agatha Christie's books. I'd like to say thank you. I have learned a lot from your videos. They are very useful for me. Warm regards from Brazil
+Learn English with Lindsay - Network in English Nice. I've done both in the past and designed a curriculum all about learning English with sitcoms. It's fun for students.
+English Lessons with Alex (engVid AlexESLvid) Oh man, I have done sooo much of that (creating curriculum) for novels and short stories, etc., in "real life," but I haven't ventured into it yet in "UA-cam Land." I also used to do episodes from Friends with my "brick and mortar" classes - there was always such great colloquial vocabulary in Friends - but now I'm at a loss for the current equivalent of Friends. The Big Bang Theory would have been it a few years ago, but now that's starting to get stale, (in its 9th season.) What is the new "Friends"?? Where is that light-hearted sitcom that everyone all over the world watches and connects with??
+Learn English with Lindsay - Network in English Great question. I'm partial to Modern Family, and a lot of students seem to enjoy it. It can be really quick, though. I think the days of Friends are gone. There is just such a wealth of entertainment today that it's hard to just point to one thing and say, "That's it! That's the one everyone knows!" I prefer this world of entertainment where there's something for everyone. Choice is good. :)
Hi teacher Alex,my name is Samantha and I'm from Brazil.I found out your channel some days ago and I have watched your videos since then.I'm trying to improve my English every day.I'd like that you make a video about Learn English with Harry Potter book series.
+Samantha Viana The video is done. :) I'm not sure when we'll be releasing it, but it is definitely scheduled for some time in 2016. Haha. I had a good time making it, especially the introduction.
+Ermias Kidanegebre After the feedback to this video, I think a Harry Potter video might not be too far away. Of course, I will keep making videos in my usual style as well. These ones are more time-consuming. If engVid is ever ALL I do, then these ones could be done more often.
Hi ! I'm a senior student from Hong Kong . Your videos by all mean help me of my studying.Watching your video is enjoyable as the vocabulary you used is understandable and I do not need to keep on using my dictionary. Thank you ! I hope you can introduce more books easy to read. Please forgive me if I got any grammatical mistake >_
Yes. I think is a good way to teach, and learn, english. But sometime, take advantage of explaining the difference between rub and scrub, for exemple. That would be great. Anyway, thanks Alex for your great efforts to bring us interest and good topics. Everything is good when we want to learn. Have a good day.
Hello, Alex! Thank you for your video. I've read The Hunger Games trilogy in English. There were a lot of new words and expressions for me. "Keep tabs on" was one of those expressions. :) Simple grammar, interesting words/phrases and the great story make the trilogy perfect for English learners. I like the new style of the video. I'd love to see more videos like this one. You said that you were studying French. Can you please tell me about interesting websites or UA-cam channels for French learners? :)
+Trixxy Volt I've checked out some of Alexa Polidoro's videos. She does a good job. ua-cam.com/video/eq--V9P4rmM/v-deo.html Thanks for checking out my channel! Hope to see you around more often.
+English Lessons with Alex (engVid AlexESLvid), I can't believe I missed your answer. I thought I would get a notification that you replied... (I usually don't comment videos on UA-cam so I don't know anything about this comment thing). I've even checked a few times if you replied, but I missed it anyway. Thank you, Alex! I'll check out her videos! :)
My first book to read in English was "The Fault In Our Stars " and it was a struggle , but Yahoo Answers helped me a lot . But I also got to know a lot of experssions , slang and vocabularies I loved it !! but its end was a tragedy :/
Now i know why i was having difficulties in reading books such as 'sherlock Holmes', this book you mentioned seems like an easy reading compared to sh. thaanks Alex!
I'd like to see this type of videos and maybe you give us some movies or series names which can help to improve our English. Thanks for your videos, they are very good:)
hello! It was a really interesting video. I'd to see more videos about learning English through the books. I like Harry Potter very much. It's easy to read and understand.
+Лора Савченко I agree, and I will definitely be considering Harry Potter as a possible choice for a future video. It sounds like quite a few engVid students would enjoy it.

+Mnera Otaibi No problem. Thanks for stopping by.
Thanks,
Keep up the good work,
+Norbert Goldmann I may do TV shows in the future. Thanks for the suggestion.
Great lesson Alex, Thank you!
I'm in love with this video! That's pretty amazing lesson, thank you Alex! What about a new vocabulary from the book called "The fault in our stars" ?
+Aripova Dilnora Nice suggestion, Aripova! I'd like to choose books that many people have heard of and read, though. Books like The Hunger Games, Harry Potter, etc.
Thank you Alex, your lesson are always very interesting and full of great advices...

Hi Alex :)
Thanks a lot, great video, could you do one, with tips for reading Harry Potter or Percy Jackson?
Love from Brazil
+Jecineide Carvalho Not a bad idea. I've read all of the Harry Potter books and loved them. I've never read the Percy Jackson series, though.
Percy Jackson is really fanny, and it has a lot of adventure, I recomend for when you want to read something fast and that will make you laugh :)
+Jecineide Carvalho Nice. I'll give them a look when I have a little more time. I have around 30 books on my bookshelf that I need to get through first!
Enjoy it a lot. I will read the book. Thank you !
+Gerson Ferreira No problem! Thanks for watching, Gerson.
I'm reading the "Fight Club". It is my first English book. Very exciting.
+Sergey Smirnov Good choice. That's also one of my favourite movies.
Excellent lesson, excellent teacher Alex, thank you very much, I enjoyed it. I read The Hunger Games in Slovak, but I must read it in English :-D.

Thanks professor Alex for answer me!!! I'll be waiting for this video!!!

Yes. I think is a good way to teach, and learn, english. But sometime, take advantage of explaining the difference between rub and scrub, for exemple. That would be great. Anyway, thanks Alex for your great efforts to bring us interest and good topics. Everything is good when we want to learn. Have a good day.
+Ricardo Casal Thanks for watching, Ricardo. I always try to be as clear as possible. :)

+Lílian Sílvia Bernardo Thanks, Lilian! Let me correct your grammar:"I love YOUR lessons, Alex." :)
She does a good job. ua-cam.com/video/eq--V9P4rmM/v-deo.html
