It was a sweet gesture. Biologists say that lobsters this size are at the end of their life cycle but i hope he's got a few good years left.

Yeah. It's because they get so big, every moult they get bigger and bigger but have less and less energy to free themselves. Eventually the lobster will die from exhaustion during a moult because the moult is either too big or they are too old to be able to remove it in time.

They didn’t even do it correctly, for one thing lobsters lose feeling in their claws after awhile when they’re shut for a certain amount of time. Plus they weren’t even near a reef which means that lobster is out in the open and most likely was eaten by something shortly after. If they were actually gonna take this seriously that would’ve removed the rubber bands and let him acclimate for a couple of days so he could get some feeling in them again and then gone miles off shore to a reef where he could at least have some cover.

A lobsters meat gets tougher with more time. So if a lobster is 20lbs and old, it’s gonnna be tougher than a smaller 2lb lobster. Most lobsters over 3lbs start to get really rubbery.
Similar to regular meat. You don’t go to a steak house and get beef that’s been worked to pull farming equipment, cause that steak is going to be so tough and unpleasant to chew through. Instead, you get younger cows, that don’t do as much moving around or heavy work so the meat is tender.

The issue with this is that she kind just gave that lobster a death sentence.
When their claws have been rubber banded for a long time they lose muscle function. It may take weeks for the lobster to be able to use their claws again. Yes they can feed themselves without the claws but that's not ideal and they can't defend themselves. On top of that their dexterity will deteriorate heavily as well. Usually they aren't fed or fed very little, making them weaken even more. She should've given the lobster some recovery time before releasing to ensure he was okay, still able to use his claws and legs. It's not just crucial for feeding and defending but also for moulting. Moulting takes a lit of energy out of lobsters. I see a lot of commets saying: "Oh in a week or two he'll be able to use his claws again." If he moult during that period he's basically dead meat. It's already very hard for a lobster that big and old to moult (usually they die of exhaustion during a moult) and then you give him claws that wont work. It's a recipe for disaster.
    Poor lobster.
(Not to mention, they probably didn't even put him back anywhere remotely close to where he lives. Meaning he will be hella disoriented and the food sources that allowed him to grow so big and majestic may not be available in the same quantities which is definitely not doing an old man like him any favors either.)
