Funny that you figured "East Hastings" would make a perfect soundtrack to some kind of horror or sci-fi. It was used in the scene revealing the post-Zombie apocalypse in the 2002 film 28 Days Later.
tracklist (yes 3 tracks but still) the dead flag blues - 0:44 east hastings - 7:48 (or according to smags 'east hashings') providence - 15:08 enjoy! another relaxing and great reaction to a scary album by smagsylad
UA-cam recommended you to me today, and I have watched nearly every one of your videos since. Love when your vibing with something like the chord progression or when the "cats are cooking" You react to a lot of my favorite music like The Strokes, MBV, Slint, etc and all the others and ones I want to listen to or tried to get into. Your reaction to the 21st Schizoid sample is class aswell hahah
The way I view GYBE’s first three albums is like F#: something really bad just happened LYSF: let’s pay tribute to everything that just died Yanqui: something really bad is currently happening PLEASE react to Yanqui U.X.O. It’s one of the coolest sounding albums I’ve ever heard and completes this mini-“trilogy”
The way I see it, GYBE's first three make a trilogy about the apocalypse: - F#A#oo, with its themes of desolation, is set after the apocalypse. - LYSF, with its immediacy and dynamic themes of hope vs despair, is set during the apocalypse. - Yanqui, with its contemporary (circa 2002) political themes and the air of premonition around the whole thing, is set before the apocalypse.
If you ever have a half hour to kill and you're in a pretty good headspace, listen to their song "motherfucker=redeemer" with your eyes closed, and try to remember everything you see. That song is absolutely therapeutic, if not life-changing.
Absolutely, definitely this. Young Team is great. Still post rock but more visceral than Godspeed with a dollop of shoegaze. You can't go far wrong with any of their subsequent albums either but Come On Die Young is great as well.
i don’t know why this was recommended to me but thank you for showing me new things! i love experimental music and the fact this is over 20 years old is so cool to me
Saw them live in 2003 in Cleveland. Great show, small room. Near the end the drummer was walking through the audience playing a hubcap on a wire like a gong.
Great review dude. Some albums for your consideration: Animal Collective - Strawberry Jam Brand New - Science Fiction The Mars Volta - The Mars Volta 🍻
A little context for samples: The opening vocal is from a movie that Efrim, the guitarist and founding member, was filming but ultimately never completed, further referenced in the Silver Mt. Zion track 'Movie Never Made'. Don't know the 'large barge' sample, but it's probably recorded off short wave radio. The 'Where are you going?' sample is taken from the track 'By My Side' in the musical 'Godspell'. The Gathering Storm sample seems to be an old Gospell song which later formed the melodic basis for 'Gathering Storm' from 'Lift Yr. Skinny Fists'.
It’s called F#A# infinity because that’s the tunings the guitars use and at the end of the record version it has a locked groove so the last part loops forever or infinitely @smags1082
That "Where are you going?" part in Providence is probably the most haunting musical moment I've ever heard. This was my favourite album for a while in my late teens/early 20s. In terms of immersion and instrumental worldbuilding I still can't think of many other albums that come close to this one. Maybe not as musically "full" as some of the later Godspeed albums, but I still find it to be the most engulfing one. Some of the textures these guys achieve are just incredible.
Yanqui U.X.O. for me is their best work, but there's no 'bad work' and their output varies from 'fantastic' to 'life changing'. Their first 3 full length albums in particular are essentially flawless in my eyes - even having just one of those 3 would be a defining release for the band, let alone having them all. On another note, you should react to Can - Tago Mago. Mind-melting album.
@@smags1082 You definitely should, it would also be a cool way for you personally to look back at all the stuff you reacted especially if an album grew on you a ton but the video might not reflect that.
Dude, nice. I've seen a few of your videos before but The Algorithm™ has been pitching me more and more of them lately, because of your choices. Excellent picks.
For more depression music see: Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness and Siamese Dream by Smashing Pumpkins and The Downward Spiral by Nine Inch Nails! :D
The Godspeed Slow Riot EP is essential listening. But if you like the apocalyptic nature of this album, I can whole heartedly recommend the collab between Japanese Post Rock artists Mono & World's End Girlfriend Palmless Prayer/Mass Murder Refrain. Trailer's 3 and 5 are great mirror images of each other - the same base melody but completely different interpretations.
this was the first album to make me cry, seen them in concert a few years ago and totally blew my dick off. It was a very spiritual experience. If you ever get the chance to see them in concert do it.
it helps a lot for context, this band is incredibly political, the intro is a poem with symbolism for American society, im pretty sure each member is anarchist or communist
Although if you want to review another late 90s symphonic masterpiece, do Agaetis Byrjun by Sigur Ros. It's from the same ethos but on the other side of the world.
Mr consistent strikes again
Funny that you figured "East Hastings" would make a perfect soundtrack to some kind of horror or sci-fi. It was used in the scene revealing the post-Zombie apocalypse in the 2002 film 28 Days Later.
You should listen to the slow riot EP next for godspeed. its only 2 tracks but its really good
Agreed
Oh yeah, my personal fav godspeed release. It's absolutely perfect
Best EP ever from any band
nice pfp
Probably my favorite EP of all time, first time I listened to it hit so hard
soundtracks for the blind would be actually insane
if you liked this album by godspeed, Slow Riot for New Zero Kanada is also really good, the second track is one of my faves from them
Add "Sunshine & Gasoline", and that's you need to hear from them.
tracklist (yes 3 tracks but still)

Recommendation: Parannoul - After the Night (Live) or Parannoul - To See the Next Part of the Dream
YES
Think you'd dig Mogwai - Young team. It's really something to behold.. plus one of the tracks off that album has the best jump scare in music. 😂
Absolutely, definitely this. Young Team is great. Still post rock but more visceral than Godspeed with a dollop of shoegaze. You can't go far wrong with any of their subsequent albums either but Come On Die Young is great as well.
on a roll with the post rock
The amount of calmness and comfort this album brings me is insane. Godspeed
i don’t know why this was recommended to me but thank you for showing me new things! i love experimental music and the fact this is over 20 years old is so cool to me
I’m seeing them live this September. Thanks for listening to this one. You should check it their EP next
Saw them live in 2003 in Cleveland. Great show, small room. Near the end the drummer was walking through the audience playing a hubcap on a wire like a gong.
yessss bro ive been waiting
Great review dude.

I still think you need to experience more King Crimson - Beat and THRAK albums
Brian Eno 70s albums - Here Comes The Warm Jets, Taking Tiger Mountain by Strategy, Before and After Science
bro is getting so consistent its concerning

You should make an album of the year page so you can review albums but also have a place where people can see everything you have reacted to.
That’s a good idea maybe I’ll do thag
@@smags1082 You definitely should, it would also be a cool way for you personally to look back at all the stuff you reacted especially if an album grew on you a ton but the video might not reflect that.
Rate your music too, rym is also a very good place to find new stuff in general

Mount Eerie - A Crow Looked At Me next!
damn bro I just voted and I got the notification 2 seconds after 💀
You gotta hit Yanqui UXO and Slow Riot for New Zero Kanada. Honestly every GYBE album is fire but the first 4 releases are just on another level
post rock recommendation: Tortoise - TNT
A crow looked at me by mount eerie at some point would be very good
The movie 28 days later uses one of the songs in its entirety in it.
the cowboy makes me feel things
I know it's a slow burn, but I wouldn't skip through sections.
TITLE FIGHT!!!!

slow riots physical release has a diagram teaching you how to make a molotov even
You should listen to ( Stygian Bough Volume 1 ) by bell witch
23:13 That's an afterlife party
never in my life i thought id get a chance to watch them live i did it was only 25$
U should react to any album of Do Make Say Think
The Vinyl ending of that album is actually a loop, like the vinyl actually physically loops itself. and the bonus track is just not on it.
please do to see the next part of the dream by Parannoul
vouch
Yanqui U.X.O. next
Lest we forget this is an album from the late 90s. There was nothing else on this level and it's their debut LP.
Although if you want to review another late 90s symphonic masterpiece, do Agaetis Byrjun by Sigur Ros. It's from the same ethos but on the other side of the world.
fuck yes
You should do the album beat by king crimson
yanqui uxo when
can you do Parannouls’ To See The Next Part of The Dream… thx
listen to parranoullllll next part of the dream
black midi cavalcade
You should create a Patreon where people can request one album a month
