So well done! Love the solos! Love that they did their own thing with this while still keeping it "Queen of the Reich"! Check out Britt's karaoke of this song if you haven't already.

As a Queensryche fan for over two decades, I have to say "oh DAYUM". This is a great cover. Brittniay Slayes has even better diction than Geoff Tate did in the high points (I used to joke that this song should have been called "Queen of the REIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII") and the drums defaulting to double-kicks definitely evoke the spirit of the original...indeed, they enhance it. (Anyone who doubts me; check out the "Live In Tokyo" rendition of this song before you @me. Scott Rockenfield was definitely fond of his double-kick setup in QR's early days.) My only complaint; no double-lead harmonies during the solo. That was a big part of what made the original so epic, and its lacking here. Still, this is a great take on a song I love very much. Well done!
I must agree 110% on the singer and the double kick drums, I thought it was amazing, even before she started singing!. As soon as I heard the first few notes, I thought "Man! This is going to be an awesome tribute!" Going to see the Queensryche/Armored Saint tour a few days from now and wish it was her singing!
This cover interestingly took me back to September of 1983, when I was driving to university - not that I realized it at the time, but driving away from a total crap childhood where I wasn't allowed to listen to anything other than opera (!) until I was 15. I'd managed to fold some Priest into my music ... and I heard this tune on a station out of Seattle, WA. I bought the EP the next day (on cassette). QR is still one of my favourite bands.
That is an awesome memory I’m sure! I’m sorry for the child abuse you suffered. It might sound weird but I’m actually happy with my lot of physical, emotional, mental abuse than being denied good music!
Fantastic cover, there is also a fun "karaoke" version-video of the same song, taped after one of their gigs and it's just as great a version really, quite amazing.
I'm convinced that The Matriarch is also the Queen of the Reich. Apex is the Queen of the Reich's backstory. It totally checks out. I doubt it's a coincidence that this cover was included on the Japanese release of Apex.
I'd like to thank UA-cam for recommending this cover to me months ago. This is the song that got me back into UTA years after Apex was released. I was a fool for not giving this band enough of a chance when I first heard them back in 2016, but I've seen the light.
It's no secret that the band, especially Britanny, are fans of Queensryche. Geoff Tate is one of Brittany's fave singer and is very inspired by his style.
This is the best cover of a metal classic ever made. This song will be always shady because the title, otherwise nobody can hate this legendary song. A long forgotten Queensryche song made to match IM & JP.
BlackkkSunrise- I think it was understood in 1983-4 that the use of "Reich" was in a science-fiction context. It's a much more perilous word to use in any context now, to be sure. To think that this song is nearly 35 years old hurts me deeply, lol. I had the record back then...(pained sigh)
@whoreisland Seriously, I'm sick of German culture being forever demonized because of a brief dark spot in their history. Plenty of other nations/cultures have done similarly evil shit, but we don't make random Turkish, Mongol, English etc. words taboo or decry their symbolism as evil.
There's nothing shady about the title. If anybody chooses to see every use of the word "reich" as a reference to "The 3rd Reich", that's their problem. It's these kind of people who are actively looking for things to be offended by. Reich is simply the german word for empire, and variations of the word also exist in most germanic family languages as empire/kingdom/domain.
I remember buying QR's first self-titled EP , after "The Warning" came out. The drums are much heavier on this, and the guitars less prominent; but outside of those quibbles, this is god-damned perfect.
I had an interesting thought, while hearing this song: "Is the Matriarch the Queen of the Reich?" And no joke, my phone must have heard me, because it played The Matriarch after this song!
Hahahah. I don't think she is though. This song isn't on the album is it? But also... from what people are saying this is a cover (I haven't heard the original song so... I dunno) but since it being a cover I highly doubt it's cannon. But... hey! Maybe it is! I like the idea though!

One of the most vocally difficult tunes from one of the genres most underappreciated bands and UTAs version is FLAWLESS. I actually prefer the solo in this version which is almost blasphemy.

In the dead of night
She'll come and take you away
Searing beams of light and thunder
Over blackened plains
She will find her way
Flying high through the night
She will hide your fate
As she takes your soul from under
And the blinding light of the castle fades
There is no escape
It's the ending of your precious life
Your soul slipped away
It belongs to the Queen of the Reich
The Queen of the Reich
Yeah she's coming for you
You're fading away
Your life cast astray
A victim the beast shall obtain
The light will not shine
For you'll die tonight at her shrine
And black is the last thing you'll see
Over and over
Dreams of dying fill your head
It's the sign of the cross
That you'll find ahead
No one will answer
The light is fading away
Captive souls are screaming out in pain
There is no escape
It's the ending of your precious life
