      This is not sanitary.

      @@karenmillner7553 this really depends on the type of food - you can’t have your fingers into someone’s sauce or soup but you CAN have them 0,5cm from their steak & potatoes

      Failure is the best teacher, I learnt by doing and can now carry three plates easy and sometimes 4 when not too heavy.

    Dude this is awesome! I just started as a busser and have had to learn quick (came from a retail/lumber yard background of 5 years). I haven't been tasked to run food yet and It's not something they require of bussers where I work, that said I want to progress to bartender as quickly as possible so any initiative would be great. These tricks are totally going to come in handy! thanks man!

    It only hurts when you’re working! Truer words have never been spoken. Currently at 4 plates but this’ll surely help me get 5 while visitation is low during the winter season. Big up mate (:

    I appreciate the demonstration. Unfortunately where I work the plates are oven hot and add the increased slipperiness with sauces then why more than 3 will turn slapstick with a trip to A&E afterwards. 😂

    I have been serving a very long time, but have never been really taught the tricks to carrying many plates, or even hold a drink tray and distributing properly from it...also, how to hold more than one drink per hand, I have typically been a 2/1 hander on my own. I found your video very informative...though, where I am working now, even one drink they want delivered on a tray, and many of our dishes have sauces on them, so unless I can handle the dishes level, I would be in trouble going for 5 plates. (I am a bit short, and I also have pretty small stubby fingers). I at least can understand how some people can handle so many plates now though. :)

    Lmao had those plates contained food on them.. you would've lost the whole lot before you even left the kitchen.
    Exhibit A: 6:45 .. everything that wouldve been on the fourth and third plate would then be on the floor and what started on the second plate would end up on the third plate. If you can't balance them properly with NOTHING on them.. you are in for a shock when you have food on them.

    • @strout2944
      @strout2944 4 роки тому

      I've already taken 5 plates without dropping anything, it depends on the food on the plate. You will not do this with soup logically.

      Some of those movements certain foods where I work at would slide right off, 4 is definitely do-able though just gotta practice a bit with less moving about. If I'd do 5 the chef would probably murder me, succesful or not. :'')

  • @swmrgirl9979

    learning a 3 plate carry was mandatory where I started (college bar) and a 4 plate carry helped if you could do it. But once you're in finer dining it's never more than 2, it looks sloppy/lazy. 5 is unnecessary in my opinion

    • @swmrgirl9979
      @swmrgirl9979 4 роки тому

      also the kitchen never sets plates in order, expo is an entire job and they will call out your name we're going to (table number), table number, and then seat number starting with female diners - you confirm with either "table number, seat number x and x, heard" or just "heard"
      ex "alright, chaney, we're going to table 64 with salmon seat 2 female and scallops seat 4 female" followed by "heard" OR "64: salmon 2, scallops 4 heard"

      @@ceciliemadsen6244 I'm not sure who gave you that information, but I have never heard that the plates aren't allowed to touch. You could be new to this or got your info from a germ freak who was a colleague/coworker, but one person preferences are not considered a privilege, they come at a price it is a luxury that is laborered for and provided for those who go hard every day and win for the community, city, world! Not because you think I owe you or you think that 30% tip was something! (Please be mindful that these people do work hard for their compensation and do deserve to be treated with a high form of respect without believing that 5 star service is your luxury here.
      If you believe that cross contamination is at risk, then you would only be carrying one plate because it is against OSHA regulations to carry any other plate(s) other than the allergy ones. So unless you have a picky "I don't like my food... toucher" plate(s) food with you (to finish my reason for my comment), it is not a health code violation! If you touched one plate you touched something else before you got that plate. You touched air my nig! Air is the GAS that is carrying the demon-filled organism in the first got damn place!!! (Don't use His name in vein tho). But let's leave that be cause I'm not trying to miss this H-E-A-D GAWWWK GAWWWK I've been trying to get all night!
      In closing, It is ok if the plates touch but it can't touch the actual food! Always wash your hands before taking food out, shower before you leave the house and go to work, and don't sneeze out loud!! Don't sit the bottom of that Seafood Broil plate in my mashed potatoes NUGGA!!
      Most guests are going to tell you that they are allergic to something, but they really aren't. However, this fact should NEVER make you feel like you shouldn't take the warning seriously. I just thought I would throw that in as a courtesy. Like and subscribe and let me know what topics you want to talk about or videos I should create!
      You can tell when they for real when they show you the pen and they say it more than 3 times and they check the food before they even put they utensils on the plate! That's a real check right there!
      I was taught several techniques by some very talented people that have worked in fine dining, private events, banquets and large seminars, concerts, album release catering party, YOU NAME IT!
