One of the best play sets from the 1980s.😊

I don't think most people know that this was a real ride in Myrtle Beach South Carolina. This is where he got the idea. For the playset and ride. And the cartoon. I hope it's still there. I haven't been there in years. Are used to love. That whore ride. I still remember going to the amusement park and then going to Burger King across the street and looking. At this ride and the big long. Slide right out the window. While I was eating my sandwich at least I think it was Burger King. still excited about the mold memory. So excited I can't even spell right LOL later.

I had so much fun with that when I was a kid!

I completely forgot I had this as a kid. Warduke was the only D&D figure I had but I believe I wanted this playset to go with my Joes as a base for Cobra since the shape of the fortress reminded me more of a snake than a dragon. The sliding door with spikes was insane but what really struck me was the skeleton in the lava and the captured one in the sticker at the back of the treasure room.

The stones are not stepping stones. They are ammunition for the 'catapult'. Which is that piece of the floor that pops up and that you used to launch Elkhorn through the air.
The 'catapult' seems to be a commonly broken part and this is probably due to kids using it to violently launch their action figures, which are far heavier than the little stones it was intended for, into the heavens.
For its compact size and small footprint, I think this has to be the best playset from the era. Every square inch of it has a play feature of some kind and they are well thought out and integrated into the whole of it. If anything, it's biggest flaw is probably that it is too densely packed with these features, making it feel a bit cramped and crowded when looked at as a whole.

Thanks for mentioning the catapult is for the stones! That makes way more sense and probably says in the instructions now I gotta find some online and check that out!

Oh man, I had this! It was amazing! It may seem small now but as a kid it felt huge! It doubled as Snake Mountain or a spooky cave on Third Earth and all my Joes went spelunking in this thing! It just had a ton of features and never got old! This and a Voltron 2 are the White Whales of my vintage collection, had them both as a kid but the prices are crazy pants insane these days!

If I recall correctly, The Fortress of fangs had a manufacturer's suggested retail price of $23.99, in 1983 when the minimum wage was $3.35 an hour...

Sounds about right. Castle Grayskull retailed at $25 around that time.

Full version had a gold/treasure piece for the chest. Trust me I had this set and was quite sore over the fact that demon wasn't gray like on the box.

i have seen pictures of this playset online, but i never put it together that it was supposed to be the ride entrance, if it had the horns on the side and smaller yellow eyes like in the cartoon and a higher roofed mouth, i might have put it together, i would see that mouthed face at the end of each Dungeons and Dragons cartoon episode when they would play the sad theme song as they panned across the amusement park

Thanks for showing the features, even if they’re only “kinda cool.” 😉

Seems to have all the features we saw in most of the 80s playsets. Looks mean on display though

Great vid (as well as yesterday’s)!
Really enjoyed seeing all the detail in this, a playset I never had as a child, and looking forward to the next upload - almost as much as I’m looking forward to the Neca updates, which look superb. Very excited that they seem to be taking their inspiration from the LJN card-art, which naturally I always loved…
As an aside, I wonder if Neca will ever officially release their SDCC 2022 pack? Hope so, they looked great too

I am not sure they will do a wide release of the SDCC but you can get the set on Ebay for a good price

When I just listen to the intro of that cartoon it all comes back. "I don't like this!"
