In this lesson we’ll get down with our bad selves and play a reggae groove using the major and minor triad arpeggios we’ve been practicing in the last few lessons.
This bass line is 100% made up of triad arpeggio notes, no funny business. You can see and hear how cool we can make a bass line just by using these notes!
If you want to dial in a more reggae-y sound, try rolling your bass EQ up and your treble down. Or if you prefer to get a similar effect with your hands instead, try doing some left hand muting a la Rocco Prestia, and choose your lower strings over your higher strings whenever possible.
To get some more intense and thorough practice with your arpeggio inversions, check out my latest book Electric Bass Scales and Arpeggios, where you can practice triad and seventh chord arpeggios in all their inversions, all over the neck!

I switched to the bass after decades of guitar and when anyone asks 'Isn't it easy and boring after guitar?' I just send them a link from you playing higher ground or something. You have helped me get more and more interested in all the bass can be. When I run out of ideas, which is often, I just click on one of your videos and am never disappointed. Thanks.
Haha, if only bass were actually easy. :) Glad you're enjoying my videos!
Dude, your channel rules. Really enjoyed this. I have been playing guitar for 30+ years. Just started focusing on bass after getting the kala u bass. Love this groove
I've been playing for over 10 years and never even considered muting with the fretting hand. Cool tip!
Yeah, lots of fun possibilities there!
Such a beautiful bass, both in appearance and sound! Thanks for the great lesson, Alex
Great riff Josh. A pleasure to learn and to play. Thanks for the lesson. Cheers Michael
THIS IS WONDERFUL BASSLINE ILIKED IT JOSH THUMB UP, FROM MALAWI
Thank you Petros!
Thank you very much! Good day for you!!
Excellent lesson. Immediately useful. I still can't make my fingers sound remotely that good haha.
Best reggae vid going. Why? Because you can hear what's being played!!!! Great work as always my man.
Nice work with your channel, Josh. Greetings from Brazil.
Thanks!
i think reggae it' s the most difficult genre among "happy songs" to play on bass
and this triads are very interesting.
Dude, that's a fresh groove..
Nice feel, clearly explained. Cool!
Josh, did you know you have a doppleganger giving bass lesson under the moniker BassBuzz? Oh, you did? Carry on.
That's me!
Excellent lesson, much appreciated!

Thanks Nathan!
What bass is that. Sounds sick
Was that riff at 0:14 recorded on a Warwick?
Thanks for the tutoria. Can I use this on other songs? Do u have a backing track of this line. Hug from Brazil
Hey André, all my backing tracks are available to my patrons on Patreon - www.patreon.com/joshfossgreen
I can easily play that by just watching but I don't know cords or notes and I want to. Where do I start in your videos?
Ishmael same I’m a musician by ear all the instruments I play but don’t know nothing about reading or all that notes
How often do you change you're strings? Is once every 3 weeks too much?
Thanks for these type of lessons. they build great vocabularyt
It depends on what sound you want. I change my strings a lot less often than that, more like every 2-3 months. Depends on how much money you want to blow on strings too. :)
Also, I use Elixir strings, which I think last a lot longer than other brands I've tried - amzn.to/1Qu5NEy
If you're playing reggae, you really should have flats. No need to change them for years either.
That's a good note since this comment was on this video. The bass I'm playing isn't actually set up for reggae properly, I just do my best to fake it with technique and slightly tubbier EQ in post. Don't bring a Cirrus with fresh roundwounds to a reggae audition. :)
Ha! Sounds pretty good though!
Dam that's too much🤣😂...no dont do that. Change it about every 5 or 7 months i.m.o.p...or once a year
YOG
What kind of booster you usage for bass 2 better sound ?
Hey Josh, I'm having trouble downloading the .pdf. It doesn't even load the link, and yes I tried with different browsers and different computers. Any help?
Not sure what's happening, works fine for me. So you're not even getting to my website successfully?
I am getting to our website, but it loads very slowly. Once I click the link for the .pdf It just shows the loading line and save button. When I press the button it just crashes.
Hey, I'm a little stumped. Just ran the site through a couple sites like this and seemed to be loading acceptably fast: gtmetrix.com/
I've tried changing some caching settings, maybe give it another go now. Thanks for following up and sorry for the dumbness.
Thank you so much Josh!!! It's all good now and it loaded super fast!! I downloaded the .pdf and I can practice now. Thank you again ^^ Have a beautiful day Sir.
Wow! I honestly wasn't predicting succcess with my extreme novice web skills. I'm glad it worked and I'm gonna go pat myself on the back now!
Love it, sounds like Monkey Island.
Where can I get the backing track
Hey Sam, all my backing tracks are available to my patrons on Patreon - www.patreon.com/joshfossgreen
