"Red Clay" is a stunning album, I love it. "Montreal Tapes" on vinyl on radar now, thank you for sharing. I have the big boxed on CDs and I love that recordings. That Stanley Turrentine! How it works that in France I have to wear a jacket and you're in T Shirt in Germany? Highly unfair ;)
Here is a nice challenge - Could you do a video on David Stone Martin--the iconic Jazz cover designer- would be great to see what you have and what you can introduce! Please!!
The Ron Carter album is fantastic. I love it! Sound is amazing. You feel like you’re right there. One album I really recommend is Lady Sings the Blues by Billie Holliday from Vinyl Me, Please. It’s a beautiful recording, plus it comes with a superb essay (not one of those little books) and a print of Billie. When I played this record and read the essay, I said to myself, “thank goodness there’s a VMP.” Really love it.
Cool video. When it comes to CTI my preference is by far ORG music. For some reason some important albums like "Jim Hall - Concierto" only come in 33 RPM and a very ugly sleeve, but still the sound is way better than any other version (including the original Van Gelder). My second option is the Japanese King Records (always with the Van Gelder on the dead-wax). King records CTI releases can also come in single and ugly sleeves but their pressing quality is very often even better than the ORG music and I'm finding the sound identical to the original pressings. My third option is the original CTI. In contrast to other labels (e.g., blue note, impulse), you can find very often original CTIs in NM condition for very good prices. For me is all about sound and pressing quality. I LOVE speakers corner but I've tried some of their CTI releases and I'm not very convinced by the sound. I still need to try Pure Pleasure, but I have read many people complaining about the sound quality.
Excellent work! have been watching your old videos and I like and appreciated them. I love jazz and analog although I don't have expensive equipment but an Onkyo TX-NR363 receiver paired with a PLX-1000 and Bose Acoustimass 5. Perhaps a video about equipment for beginners will help. Thanks you and regards from Houston, TX.... I should say, a Venezuelan living in Houston, TX.
Wonderful video Michael and thanks so much for extending the thread. I guess this would have made for a good Four Corners video. I need to check out that Ron Carter record and I am happy to hear Bags and Trane is back in print! I hope ORG will repress all their Coltrane Atlantic titles as there were a couple I missed out on when they were first dropped.
Have you listed to the Charlie Parker Mercury & Clef box set yet? I'm looking to add that one to the collection but always interested in your thoughts on how it sounds! Cheers from California!
Another great video.I really appreciate your channel as my jazz collection has really filled out. Some of my favorite records I have gotten because of you recommendations.I am now branching into the electronic music and enjoying albums from A Strangely Isolated Place label.Keep up the good work.
Michael I'm sold I have to grab that Dave Brubeck Time Out sessions looks very interesting great 14 records you pulled those Org pressings are amazing sounding . Chet Baker is another one i need to add nice take care Michael. lovellandrew
So that's where Our Spring went from Vancouver Canada it seems to be in Germany well ok nothing I can do about it but I still Enjoyed the record review as usual.
Great video Michael! Wow, there is so much beautiful music to discover and thank's to you for introducing new great sounding avenues other thank BlueNote! I keep asking myself: "how does he do that? How does he find all these incredible gems?" Great job!
Hi Michael, another great video. Loved the suggestions. One things regarding labels that I just remembered. I am a lifetime subscriber to Jack White’s third man records vault. The quality of the pressings, material included and presentation have been top notch for many years. All the releases are subscriber only, not for sale. Yesterday I got my latest, 4 LP set, jack white live at the Masonic temple, with an extra 7inch and dvd. 65 dollars. Beautifully packaged. In these “crafty” (crappy?) records times, ;), there’s people out there releasing great material. And I’m already ordering some of those you showed!!,
Great video as always..lovely to see sunset in the blue! this recording is fabulous! Also great to see you outside again as summer comes back..(nice to see your whippet make an appearance what's his name?) .thanks Michael
Nice selections. You have good taste. Check out "Yuko Mabuchi Plays Miles Davis" (Vols. 1 & 2) on Yarlung and "Claire Teal with the Syd Lawrence Orchestra - A Tribute To Ella Fitgerald" on Chasing the Dragon. You won't be disappointed.
All great records....I have the Chet Baker Bakers and the Ron Carter live....waiting for the Sinatra from Impex....love the Sam and Impex records....I prefer to feed Flipper the dolphin which they show the reruns of the program here in New York.....got to find that Ramon Valle record.....Ed....😎🎵🎶🎵
thanks for a lovely review fabulous choices , can you be kind as to advise me what are your vinyl protective covers they seem so crystal clear ‘ cheers
Hi Michael, love your videos! Have you heard or tried any of the albums done by the German label MPS? If not, I highly recommend them. I picked up the Dexter Gordon - A Day in Copenhagen album a few weeks ago and I love the sound quality! They are all analog pressings on 180 gram vinyl taken from the original master tapes! My copy was nice and flat with no noise. I loved it so much that I have ordered another album from them by Freddie Hubbard. Still waiting to receive it and I hope for more of the same! Have a great day and keep giving us more great videos!
Melody Gardot sunset in the blue, sweet heaven, thx Michael! IMPEX, yes, their Three Blind Mice box is a must have. SpeakersCorner's Ella Fitzgerald Sings Jerome Kern and Rachmaninov nr. 2 with Katchen on piano with London Symphony conducted by Solti are pure joy, yeah. By the way, the cover on your Melody LP is US pressing, right?
Why don’t you contact Mr. Carter and do a zoom video with him. Talk about his life and recording sessions. I think that would be great and I can’t think of anyone better than you. Please give it some thought.
Funny, the more I watch videos from audiophiles, the more I see that they do not listen to the main body. All this recommendations are spread out. Why not recommend the main records of the main artists, so many gems? Or do they not know the music? Is it true that you use the music to listen to your system? Sorry that I put that under your video, because there are so many videos about Jazz where I could make the same comment, yours just came along. And I am happy to see that there are still some music friends who listen to Jazz and enjoy it.
@@Michael45RPM Has nothing to do with being a critic, just education. When I like an artist, I listen to his main body first, the records that made him famous or presented him at his peak. On next to no video about Jazz some of these records are shown, that is what surprises me. I get the impression that many buy what is called an "audiophile record" and not what is an historic important record. People take great effort in buying the right pressing but little to no effort in what records are important of any given artist. So what is more important, the search for the best pressing, or the search for the best records?
@@Michael45RPM couldn't agree more Michael. There's a time and place for delving into an artist's work...let's enjoy a record and praise it on its individual merits.
That Ramon Valle album is amazing. Very good recommendation!!
Understated and soulful channel, thanks again Michael...

Stanley Turrentine's Sugar is lovely. Still available on Pure Pleasure's UK website for just over £20.00. Got mine last week.

Did you see Chad from Acoustic Sounds is selling his personal collection of the original Classic Records recordings? Led Zep Box set only $2K
It'll all sell eventually....but not to me at the prices they are asking. Ridiculous.
Amazing - I’d buy the whole lot if I could!
Is that a racing dog?
yes those are whippets
Gardot, as in GARden. Not "Jardot".
Great video!. Would “Afternoon In Paris” by Lewis & Distel that you mentioned in the past be another good option? Thanks again.
Of Course
Can you do a video about Prestige records? Thanks
Good choices, where did you get your Straight No Chaser?
Hmmm i really do not remember sorry
Where did you order the Impex Sinatra? from elusivedisc? I'm in Europe too
