Hi Cider! Veteran Jockey here :) I highly recommend going for the Super Sprint + Choco Cure III ability combo for the sole reason that Super Sprint means you can semi-AFK your races. It basically turns auto-run on for your chocobo, meaning you don't have to hold W anymore. By the time you get to R300 and start actually grinding out the 3000 races, you'll have about 125 hours of grinding ahead of you, and using Super Sprint means you won't have to devote brain power towards running. Sagolii Desert is the best track for the achievement, since it's the fastest. And optimized chocobo can get a final time of ~1:16 assuming no interference from the other racers. For training: - Acceleration is worthless - Max speed only needs to be trained up to 350 if you're running Super Sprint - the rest of your points should be dumped into endurance/stamina, with cunning getting any leftover points
Oh lord, Chocobo racing, my love! I want to write a 300 page essay for tips and tricks for Cider, but since he absolutely loathes those, let me just say one thing which should hopefully improve his enjoyment once he does return to this content (probably like five years in the future). The controls "feel clunky" because it's not free movement at all. Instead, the track is a set of "lanes" which compress when track is smaller and expand when wider. Try tapping left or right once, and after a moment, you'll see you Choc move one lane towards that direction. This is serverside, so your Choc will first move on the serverside and then the server will tell your client to show the animation. You can move multiple lanes if you keep holding the direction button. Once you understand how the lanes work, the controls start to make much more sense and you should hopefully be able to enjoy yourself much more!
Cider wouldn't appreciate it, but I would love that 300 page essay. One of my bucket-list goals in this game is to complete every single challenge in the challenge log within a week, and the final challenge I can't consistently do is winning Chocobo races. In particular, can you settle something I've been confused about for a while?: Is there collision? I swear sometimes a chicken body-blocks me and I can't accelerate past them even when I really should be able to, but then other times chickens will run straight through me.
@@hoodiesticks You get partial collision boxes. Main thing for that is to either slow down so your collision box and the NPC box no longer collide, or work on getting to a different lane without a bird in front of you. Hope that helps!
@hoodiesticks Collision does exist, but you can't really use it. This is because the Chocs animation's doesn't update fast enough to match which lane they're actually on, serverside. So you can only block others if you're a mind-reader. If an AI is blocking your path, just tap a direction and you should go past. If all you care about are wins, then as long as you have a good Choc you'll always have a breeze whenever you train your Choc. Eventually you'll rank up against harder AIs (like what you saw happen to Cider twice in this video) and then just train again. The higher in generations you go, the easier of a time you'll have too. Two tips for now - learn the courses since some of them have extra Stamina laying around, allowing you to run faster. And keep in mind that lanes DO matter - the outside of a curve is a way longer lane than the inside. Just like in real-position racing games. If you want that 300 page essay, I highly recommend googling "ff14 chocobo racing" and the very first result should be a wordpress blog. There is your massive 300 page essay! You don't have to learn it all. Remember that the most important thing is to have fun!
@@ms.laceysaeke9721 Okay, I'll try to keep an eye out and get a feel for where the hitboxes are. Another question: Does the Sagoli track have any difficult terrain? I know the water in the other 2 maps is difficult terrain, but Sagoli is just sand. Is Cunning just useless on that track?
I did not know about the lane things. I'm still holding off on the challenges, hopefully for a gold saucer event to up the gp gain. Think it stacks with the challenge been a while since i race and did all the breeding.
2 sentence guide to chocobo racing. buy stuff from chocobo merchant use either choco ease 2 or choco sprint 2 train your choco when it levels up. easy peasy. the latter half of this comment will explain whats going on. your chocobo has a rank between 1-60 every rank up allows it to train for increased stats, it also gains stats on rank up automatically. at rank 40 you can breed your chocobo you would do this to increase the chocobos pedigree as that increases its stat cap and improves its genetics. p9 means raising 8 chocobos from 1-40 and will take 100s of races on its own. the reason why the npcs will jump up in dificulty is because of chocobo rating. your chocobo rating is a sum of your chocobos qualities the better your chocobo, the higher your rating, the more dificult the opponents and track becomes. on the other hand higher rated races give better mgp and choco xp. also the bonus only affects xp and not by a lot. also the reason the controls are like that is to emulate you riding an animal and since thats basically all the challenge of the game (also its decade old content). to win the challenges you dont need to win the race you just need to beat the designated red racer.
Cider.. buddy... you were doomed from the start with your stamina bar all the way at the top xD Just above the percentage on the stamina bar it'll not your chocobo's status, stuff like Sprint or Frenzy when those items are active, but most importantly the status "Lathered"... When you sprint at some point your bird will become lathered, and while lathered it'll lose additional stamina passively which has been causing you to run out of stamina all the time. To get rid of stamina you need to give your bird a break, a.k.a. hit the breaks for a really short time (generally less than a second) which will remove the lathered condition. While managing the lathered condition you can easily win a race against the bots on a basic untrained chocobo without running out of stamina before the end of the race. It's also explained in the tutorial for chocobo racing in case my explanation doesn't make sense to you 😅 but I hope it will help make the racing more bearable to you in the future ^^
a friend of mine had trouble mixing up iron chariot and lunar dynamo in ruby weapon EX back in shb. said friend also loves the gold saucer and had, at the time, the highest-effort race chocobo in the fc. but once I learned that "Iron Chariot" was a valid name combination for a race bird, it was over for that guy, i HAD to breed the perfect ped 9 bird to harass him with. I made _spreadsheets._ it was _serious._ my beautiful baby boy has donned the ruby barding ever since
Hey Cider ! Couple of points to help you out : -there's a tab in the Chocobo section of the Gold Saucer menu to change your choco's appearance. -for challenge races : you don't have to be first, you just have to beat the challenge opponents (marked in red/as enemies). -you can put abilities on your choco to have boosts/cleansing/stamina refresh -Edit to add : the bonus thing only applies to chocobos who place between second and seventh, so if you're first or last you don't apply for it The rest is just race race baby
one of my friends and i had a chocobo naming contest to see who could make the best song related chocobo based name. they had "Warking'on'sunshine" and mine is "Wark'this'kweh" which i get a lot of compliments on lol
There is a WordPress guide out there that covers both the racing and the "other" part (would link but UA-cam seems to not like it and nukes comment...that or using the B word, not sure), there have been stealth updates they've made, lowering the timer it takes for two of them to...finish being one, which will save time when having them make several or more new Chocobo to pick the best from to carry forward (or to play sweet home Alabama later). Also yes the NPC racers will often cheat, the "special" ones you run into later on will cheat EXTRA hard, and the challenges all have a special you will need to beat to complete (don't need to be first just beat that racer). You will run into other players at random, and in the upper ranks since it's good for farming GP. You also get an exp bonus if racing against other players, and you can party up and race together as a group.
@@ruily276 Fair enough, there is something to be said for wanting to learn things for yourself to some degree. Just know as he said, it's a hill, and more going on than one would think. Not to mention video guides I found were scarce, and some didn't cover some of the important details to know, The WordPress guide became the go-to to point folks to, since it was more useful than running a class/lecture on it for me...not that doing so wouldn't be fun, but not all peeps have that kind of time. The big wall is really the rng of br--ding, and the ways you can manipulate or control it to some degree to get better results.
@@SalinaMoonfall You don't have to tell me all that. I went through the song and dance already. Got lucky early on with a couple of high star ratings on those lent breeding chocobos. Mitigating how many chocobos I needed to raise to pedigree 9.
I believe with Chocobo Racing that, it searches initially for other players, and if after a certain time there's no one queued, then it fills the extra spots with NPCs.
Chocobo racing is also part of the weekly challenge log, so if you knock that out every week you'll eventually get the achievement anyway no matter how long it takes.
My fighting Chocobo is named HighJohn. Its a reference to the plant High John the Conqueror. My racing Chocobo is named Queen Iris because it was the closest I could get to Jezebel Root. However, after hearing the other racing Chocobo names, I wish I had gone for something funnier.
I named my personal chocobo: Warkinator. Mostly because I grew up in the early FF games where the sound a chocobo made was translated as 'wark' back in the day. I also keep my racing chocobos named to the same theme by using 'Wark' in their names too in various ways.
my chocobo's name is Neonchurro, and my alts' Chocobo's name is Repaly. I can't remember why, but I tend to name mounts in games after my online friends. Oh, also, you can't get the bonus if you're in first place, it's basically a random consolation prize.
My combat Choco is Lombardia (named after a character from the Wild Arms franchise), and my max rank pedigree 9 racing choco is Crimson Cyclone, named after his parents Poulet Fue (Fire Chicken) and Tempest Hurricane, both of which are inspired by eden's Raktapaksa
Ah, a soothing voice at 3am for me to slowly doze off to (no really, I like listening to your narrations when doing anything, including chores, eating, and falling asleep)
My chocobo companion mount is named Nugget, and my racing chocobo is named The Kweh (she's my final bird, since the only Chocobo Racing related achievement I have left is doing 3000 races) Also, breeding mechanics for your racing chocobos can be a bit obtuse, so I would recommend looking at a guide for that at some point so you don't waste too much time. Otherwise, you can accidentally get yourself a very, very bad bird (I know I did for a while) and it makes the races necessary to get to rank 40 to retire it for breeding extremely painful. Other thing of note: the 1st place chocobo can't receive the bonus (it's some exp for the rank). It goes to one of the 2-8 birds randomly
My friend plays my character's loyal companion and adopted brother Rolandeux. So naturally, when she got a Chocobo Companion, she named him Rolandeuxdeux
In answer to video question, I named my chocobo Noraxia. For years, it was Chai, for no reason other than I liked the word. Then I played ARR again when newgame+ was introduced and realized I forgot the cabbage’s name at one point (I hadn’t played ARR since launch before that, so sue me) and I wanted to make sure I remembered it. Thus Noraxia, the chocobo named after a cabbage, was born! His nickname is Nori, which is seaweed in Japanese, which is just another layer of plant pun and I love it.
Per the question, my Chocobo is called Bonnet, named after Stede Bonnet gentleman pirate. Internet Historian's video on him basically cemented that I wanted to start FFXIV as a Sea Wolf Roegadyn in Limsa (plus Summoner was closest I could get to Red Mage starting out). A based player made me a tennent, so I grew my fruit and onions, so he's red and will get to rank 20 some day. As for racing Chocobo, I kept my old coverings of Chocobos that hit milestones (and a text document of all their names/colors/breeding grades). For example "Saphir Joyeuse" cleared final challenge single-player race, and I'm working on making a perfect-stated Chocobo (Perfect Shooter may just make it). Chocobo racing can be fun (especially during Make It Rain), but the meta is totally broken once you get the super-sprint build. Plus it broke my W key. I'd love some reworks to it and Lord of Verminion, but it shouldn't be their focus over other stuff. Plus I remember Chocobo Racing GP- no thank you!!
back in my day breeding chocobos took 24 real life hours just to see if the resulting egg had viable stats. if you were unlucky and you had to breed your chocobo 7 times to get what you want that was a full real time week. now it's like 2 hs per attempt
Partner chocobo is named Blues, I was in a huge Megaman kick when starting out, so ended up naming the chocobo after Protoman's JP name. Current racing chocobo is Hyper Liberty.
Heh, fine to see Cider finding the world of Chocobo Racing. After it's proper investment is a considerable way to get MGP; also consider giving some learnings to your racing chocobo In my end, been Mining My Own Business on the 31-40 bracket on top of getting the resources for the same achievements of BSM, ARM and GSM; for PvE I've got SGE at 80 before dinner yesterday and RPR is on 90 plus finished the Arkasodara tribe As for my names of the chocobos, Sirius loves being around me while I have the Arashi family in racing chocobo
Comment question: My fighting chocobo is named Famfrit. (I've been playing since before the Ivalice raids, but it amused me to imagine Cid's monologue from FFXII where he summons Famfrit.) While I was hoping to end up with a black chocobo by the end of the breeding project so I could call it Shadow Zero - as a reference to the enemy from the Mana series - the one that finally maxed out all stat caps was blue, and I don't really want to keep going with more randomized breeds to try to change the color. So my racer is Blue Blaze. Side notes: 1. The chocobo that wins the race never gets the EXP bonus. If you watch the roulette spin closely, you'll notice that it just skips first place entirely. 2. The challenge races only require you to place ahead of any chocobos with red names; you don't have to win outright. You cleared the first challenge because you were ahead of Middle Child.
As someone who has a couple Choco-cheivements, I was immediately yelling at the screen to train your damn bird lol As a heads up, when u get to choco-breeding, you will want to get the Dressage ability- it increases EXP earned in races by up to 30%. So you can get them up to lvl 40 faster to make baby chickens. Was very helpful to gettting Pedigree Champ (and became a 'Senior Jockey' accidentally on the way- still my rarest title) My battle chicken's name is Cutiepie =)
The racing chocobos have a content filter on the names. So you cannot choose a combination of 2 words that they think are too rude. Eg. Torpedo Uranus. I saw this as a challenge :) Favourites that ARE permitted were Foot Passion, (I saw a Stream Uranus), Sea Bat, Attaquant Titan, (one of my friends had a Black Face), Goldene Schnaufer, Master Bat, Leg III, Bel End, Special Snow, (a friend had Maximum Ramage), Merciless Fuchs. I loved chocobo breeding so much I did it on my alt too :) The quest for the perfect chocobo is my favourite grind in the game tbh.
I have a white chocobo named Trickster, a reference to a hunt from Final Fantasy XII. Also, as someone who grinded out a pedigree 9 chocobo to get the racing helmet, I wish you all the luck in getting good stats on your chocobos. I only ever got one really good chocobo, and it’s pretty fun when you’re just naturally fast.
@CiderSpider quick things for later if you want some advice: If you talk to the NPC Race Chocobo Registrar in the Gold Saucer, you can retake the tutorial to understand how the system works again. Likewise, for the Pedigree stuff and getting the Racing Barding, you're gonna have to a.) spend time working on getting the racing birds up to Rank 40 (any lower and while you can retire them, the Retired Licenses do nothing), so that way you can retire the Racing Bird and breed a new chocobo. The Pedigree indicates what generation bird your on, which influences how hard the races are, and keeps track up to Pedigree 9- the highest Pedigree a bird can get. You'll be spending not only lots of Gil on the bird coverings (i.e. getting chocobo chicks), but also MGP points on the licenses for coverings from the Tack and Feed Trader NPC. Please note that a Pedigree 9 covering with a Pedigree 1 licensee doesn't make a Pedigree 8 bird; it Makes a Pedigree 2 bird. Most people doing the chocobo races usually by a Pedigree above the current Pedigree tier (i.e. a Pedigree 1 bird usually gets paired with a Pedigree 2 bird). Other main thing to note is that you want more stars in the slots. Breeding higher stars means your chocobo chick/new racing bird will be more proficient in that skill. So if you manage to get 4 stars on speed, your bird will have a smoother time moving and sprinting around the map. Let me know if you want more information/ need some more tips! I'm an avid racer myself so I've learned how this jank ass system works fairly well.
@CiderSpider You might wanna double the chocobo racing time allotment from 1,000+ hours to more like 2,000+ hours. Chocobo Coverings take 30 minutes per chocobo, so if you're just trying to get to pedigree 9 (alone, not considering multiple breedings), its gonna take 270 min or 4.5 hours alone. Your pobably gonna need more time for the breedings to get a better bird plus leveling those birds up from rank 1 to Rank 40 (or Rank 50 if your going for the ultimate, full 4 star bird). Likewise, as your bird's rank increases, so does the difficulty of the matches, up to rating 240 before jumping to rating 300. Last thing: Racing Birds can only be trained up to 50 times (i.e. you get one training chance per level). So be careful in the later tiers for what you want!
And yes for the 15th challenge you do need to have all 4 stars in every stat. I tried with a bird who only had 3 stars in two slots and never won. that was a fun lesson.
episodes like this highlight a part of the game i've neglected and i am inevitably drawn to check it out for myself. And because i was a WoW refugee and mained a Hunter, I named my Chocobo "Chok'delar, (Horse-bird of the Ancient Keepers)" after the Vanilla Hunter pseudo legendary weapons "Rhok'delar, longbow of the Ancient Keepers" and "Lok'delar, Stave of the Ancient Keepers".
My Combat Choco's name originally was Hermes. Then we *met* Hermes. I have since renamed him A'ern in honor of the enemy type from FFXI's expansion: Chains of Promathia. Those things were cool as hell and Al'taieu is my favorite location in that game.
My companion Choco is named Bok Choy and he is green and I love him. I think you're gonna need to get into breeding before you can get that rank achievement, "pedigree" (breeding generation (1-9)) affects your choco's max stats, without a beefy lineage, your choco won't be able to keep up in the higher ranks. Part of the unresponsiveness is because chocobo racing is actually on lanes, tapping left or right decelerates the choco and moves you one lane to the side. It's a little wonky but it makes sense
My Combat Chocobo is a Sky Blue girl named Tempest. She's always wearing the plumed helmet you get for feeding other peoples Chocobos and the rest varies on day.
My Chocobo Companion is named Downy, after my favorite fabric softener. So you went to the upstairs of the Gold Saucer... does that mean next episode is Verminion? This video and it's comment section had lots of tips, so I might try to get back into Chocobo racing myself. On my own achievement hunt, it was a rather chill week. I just focused on various craft and gather achievements. My current main goal is "Date with Destiny VI" complete 10,000 FATES. I'm only 200 away, so one day I'm going to go Blue Mage and hammer them out. Might even get a one of those Bicolor Voucher mounts.
I love choco racing. It's so janky but there is legitimate skill to it (although once you have a maxed out bird, you'll beat the bots 99% of the time regardless). The hardest part is when you first rank into the highest tier of races and get thrown into the deep end with all those maxed out guys. I went through something like 10 generations, but my favorite racing chocobos were named Brian Gonzalez and his son Perfect Gonzalez. They were both serious beasts!
My chocobo is named Wo. My racing chocobos have always been named The [Random Word]. I still have the retired registration of my very first racing chocobo named The Commander. My current is named The Patient because I knew it was going to be the last chocobo I had to raise. It's helping me get the 3k achievement through the Sagolii Road (No Rewards) since there's no queue and I don't need MGP/exp. You still get MGP from the challenge log though. 2950/3000 from slowly chipping at it through weeklies. :D
My fighting chocobo's name is Kasuan, the name of a former character from my novel project. I like making glams for him. ^-^ My P9 racing chocobo is called Blue Nova. Since P1, all my chocobo chicks had names derived from colours and weather phenomenon/celestial objects like Azure Tempest, Veridian Gales or Cerulian Galaxy.
My personal Chocobo: Kentucky. It simultaneously feels like something you might name a horse, but if I need emergency rations… I also only did like one Chocobo race, but I recall naming my racing Chocobo Grosser Klein, which I’m pretty sure is German for Biggie Smalls.
What a coincidence, I started doing chocobo racing yesterday, so I am still learning how to do this as well. Also my chocobo companion is named Kiwi, but may or may not change in the future. Racing chocobo is Violet Wing
As someone with the choco rider mask unlocked, this hurts to watch again. If you see anyone with a Choco rider mask on, give them a hug. They know true hell
My fighting one is Chocobard. The racing max stats max pedigree is Nemesis. I would say that chocobo breeding is quite frustrating to figure out, but it was very satisfying to breed the perfect specimen. But it also felt very immoral, considering all incest involved... Also, if you heard that ffxiv has no sleeping around, now you know it does! With a proper fading to black even.
My main Chocobo's name is Pinot, and while we can't name the black chocobo we get in Heavensward, I call that one Noir. That way together they can be Pinot Noir, which is a type of wine
My chocobo's named Siipi, the Finnish word for "wing". Finnish words are my go-to for a lot of character names just because I like how they sound, lol.
To answer the question: The name of my Chocobro is Kjuklingur. I wanted a Nordic sounding name when I got him, so I looked up some translation and I came to this, the Icelandic word for chicken.
My Combat Chocobo is named Charizard, because he's the best starter, and my Racing Chocobo is named Final Burst. I really wish they would add more to Chocobo racing eventually. It is a nice and easy way to farm MGP when you hit Rank 300 and have a pedigree 9 bird with a few key abilities. EDIT: If you get first place, you can never get the bonus. Also, when you are calling the course cluncky, while it is, think of it as there are lanes on the race course and the chocobos can only run in the lanes. So say you are in lane 1, pressing right will take you into lane 2 and so on and so forth. The more Cunning your Boco has, the faster it moves between the lanes. As for missing the item boxes, try to take into account the natural "server tick" and hit the box about a half second before your Boco runs through it to get it.
Tossing this into the comment section abyss, but the Bonus for Chocobo Racing is NEVER for First Place. I'm a little shocked Cider didn't noticed that it cycles between 2nd and 8th only. My main's companion chocobo is Fethers. For OC lore reasons (including mis-spelling). My alts have Sylbmoen (Silver Moon) and Carnation as their companion chocobos. I think my current racing chocobo is named Wild Mandragora, because I got lucky with a green bird after getting through my pedigree racing and breeding.
My current racing chocobo is named Outlaw Arrow and she's unfortunately only a pedigree 7 with a rating of 104 so I'm not quite there yet for some of those achievements in racing
Since I got my chocobo during the free trial years ago(like early SB) and never thought I would continue playing. Named my chocobo just as a joke "Puff". By now, many years later, I love that digital chicken.
My main's choco's name is Kwehlani and my alt's choco's name is Nessie. Kwehlani is red as she is a hatchling of Red Comet and Nessie is green (because of the Apex Legend's mascot being a Nessie and green.)
I remember the ungodly grind it took during lockdown to get a perfect Chocobo. And now I just mess with it during Make it Rain. It's an MGP factory. Too bad I don't need MGP anymore.
Rank 50 is max per Pedigree (1-9). For breeding, you don't need to go above 40. If you want to do challenges, that's where the mating gamba for 4 star stats begins.
My mount chocombo is Boecephas. My first racing bird was Rocinante. All my successive race birds are 1 word names and I've forgotten the majority of them. But Rocinante is forever.
Mine battle chicken is called Fjord, lvl. 20 :D He got red feathers and dressed to be a dragon. I'm also wondering where could I share my adventurer plates with you.
My fighting Chocobo is named Skwisgaar. Metal heads will get the reference. I don't remember what I named my racing chocobo. I've only done it once lol.
My battle chocobo is named Talontrot. He's named after an ability in a game called Banjo Kazooie. My racing chocobo is named Genesis Dame. Haven't raced in literal years lol.
My fighting chocobo is called Dinner, and while I haven't done chocobo racing in a good long while, I do remember the name of one of my racing chocobos, Glory Whorl.
My personal buddy chocobo is named Saffron. He's dark blue. :) My alt's chocobos are named Malika (celeste green) and Rasvan (wine red), both from my D&D character's adventures. I have no idea what I named my racing chocobos.
I vaguely recall that I tried out Chocobo Racing right when Gold Saucer first came out and found it a janky mess. I guess it probably hasn't gotten much, if any, attention since it came out.
There is crucial UI information that's off-screen for you. You need to move your stamina bar lower so that you can see when you're lathered.
Yeah and later through breeding and items you get activated abilities on your chocobo
You think you can sneak one out at 3:55am like im not awake.
I work nights, so late night ones are fine by me
Your quote profile pic match 😂
I was about to watch it but I fell asleep lol
Hi Cider! Veteran Jockey here :)
I highly recommend going for the Super Sprint + Choco Cure III ability combo for the sole reason that Super Sprint means you can semi-AFK your races.
For training:
- Acceleration is worthless
- Max speed only needs to be trained up to 350 if you're running Super Sprint
- the rest of your points should be dumped into endurance/stamina, with cunning getting any leftover points
*Takes notes*

@@hoodiesticks You get partial collision boxes. Main thing for that is to either slow down so your collision box and the NPC box no longer collide, or work on getting to a different lane without a bird in front of you. Hope that helps!
@hoodiesticks Collision does exist, but you can't really use it. This is because the Chocs animation's doesn't update fast enough to match which lane they're actually on, serverside. the latter half of this comment will explain whats going on. your chocobo has a rank between 1-60 every rank up allows it to train for increased stats, it also gains stats on rank up automatically. at rank 40 you can breed your chocobo you would do this to increase the chocobos pedigree as that increases its stat cap and improves its genetics. p9 means raising 8 chocobos from 1-40 and will take 100s of races on its own. the reason why the npcs will jump up in dificulty is because of chocobo rating. your chocobo rating is a sum of your chocobos qualities the better your chocobo, the higher your rating, the more dificult the opponents and track becomes. on the other hand higher rated races give better mgp and choco xp. also the bonus only affects xp and not by a lot. also the reason the controls are like that is to emulate you riding an animal and since thats basically all the challenge of the game (also its decade old content). to win the challenges you dont need to win the race you just need to beat the designated red racer.
this summary makes me kind of more interested in trying this. this summary, and this video.
4:58 funny how getting hit by the meteor actually helped because it also shrecked everybody behind him
Cider.. buddy... you were doomed from the start with your stamina bar all the way at the top xD
Just above the percentage on the stamina bar it'll not your chocobo's status, stuff like Sprint or Frenzy when those items are active, but most importantly the status "Lathered"...
I made _spreadsheets._ it was _serious._ my beautiful baby boy has donned the ruby barding ever since
Dedication. Love it. XD
When I played as Yakuza's Majima in XIV, my chocobo was named Kwehyu-chan
So, the reason Chocobo Racing feels so laggy? The controls are sent server-side before they're executed.
Hey Cider ! Couple of points to help you out :
-there's a tab in the Chocobo section of the Gold Saucer menu to change your choco's appearance.
-for challenge races : you don't have to be first, you just have to beat the challenge opponents (marked in red/as enemies).
-you can put abilities on your choco to have boosts/cleansing/stamina refresh
-Edit to add : the bonus thing only applies to chocobos who place between second and seventh, so if you're first or last you don't apply for it
The rest is just race race baby
one of my friends and i had a chocobo naming contest to see who could make the best song related chocobo based name. they had "Warking'on'sunshine" and mine is "Wark'this'kweh" which i get a lot of compliments on lol
Frenzy is particularly painful, not because it forces you to Sprint, but because it drains your stamina more than usual in the process.
i thought is just made turning harder.
Chocobo - Zephyr
Racing Chocobo - Comet Storm, all of the prior ones surnames were Storm with the final one going to be Perfect Storm
You know how he is with guides. He won't read the Wordpress one either.
I want this guide. What should I Google to find it?
@@Catastrio "chocobo racing guide ffxiv" should be second result down under a Wordpress site.
I believe with Chocobo Racing that, it searches initially for other players, and if after a certain time there's no one queued, then it fills the extra spots with NPCs.
My Combat Choco is called Chichiri.
In memoriam of the first boco to die horribly on screen in a Final fantasy game. Damnit, Type-0...
I once had a roegadyn named Spooky Skeleton. Using the halloween--themed barding, I named the chocobo Funny Bone.
You also don't get it if you get dead last.
My chocobo companion mount is named Nugget, and my racing chocobo is named The Kweh (she's my final bird, since the only Chocobo Racing related achievement I have left is doing 3000 races)
Also, breeding mechanics for your racing chocobos can be a bit obtuse, so I would recommend looking at a guide for that at some point so you don't waste too much time.
My Chocobo is Eternal blue, yes referencing the game by the same title.
Companion: Birb
Racing Choco: Chocolate Rain
You can absolutely angle the camera during the race, I always do
back in my day breeding chocobos took 24 real life hours just to see if the resulting egg had viable stats. if you were unlucky and you had to breed your chocobo 7 times to get what you want that was a full real time week. now it's like 2 hs per attempt
Partner chocobo is named Blues, I was in a huge Megaman kick when starting out, so ended up naming the chocobo after Protoman's JP name. Current racing chocobo is Hyper Liberty.
Heh, fine to see Cider finding the world of Chocobo Racing. After it's proper investment is a considerable way to get MGP; also consider giving some learnings to your racing chocobo
In my end, been Mining My Own Business on the 31-40 bracket on top of getting the resources for the same achievements of BSM, ARM and GSM; for PvE I've got SGE at 80 before dinner yesterday and RPR is on 90 plus finished the Arkasodara tribe
As for my names of the chocobos, Sirius loves being around me while I have the Arashi family in racing chocobo
Woke up on sunday to a cider video. Alredy put a smile on my face ❤️
Comment question:
My fighting chocobo is named Famfrit. (I've been playing since before the Ivalice raids, but it amused me to imagine Cid's monologue from FFXII where he summons Famfrit.)
While I was hoping to end up with a black chocobo by the end of the breeding project so I could call it Shadow Zero - as a reference to the enemy from the Mana series - the one that finally maxed out all stat caps was blue, and I don't really want to keep going with more randomized breeds to try to change the color. So my racer is Blue Blaze.
Side notes:
Choco Racing needs more love
Looks like first place isn't even included in the bonus lottery.
As someone who has a couple Choco-cheivements, I was immediately yelling at the screen to train your damn bird lol
As a heads up, when u get to choco-breeding, you will want to get the Dressage ability- it increases EXP earned in races by up to 30%. So you can get them up to lvl 40 faster to make baby chickens. Was very helpful to gettting Pedigree Champ (and became a 'Senior Jockey' accidentally on the way- still my rarest title)
My battle chicken's name is Cutiepie =)
My choco is named Chocobusi after Cocobusi, one of the lalas in the thaumaturge quests
I got into chocobo racing for a while to get the mask, and found myself much more charmed by the content than I thought I'd be.
My Combat Chocobo is a Sky Blue girl named Tempest. She's always wearing the plumed helmet you get for feeding other peoples Chocobos and the rest varies on day.
My fighting chocobo is called Papinha, which means baby food in Portuguese 🙃
Mine's called Pepeka. 😂
Takes a lot more than 200 fates to get a bicolor mount
@UltaFlame I know. I have a bunch of vouchers saved already. The 200 may not get me there, but will definitely help.
14:56 My Chocobo companion is named Flapucoco
I already got a great 9th gen chocobo like 6-7 years ago just to get the dyeable mask, and you made me want to get back into running choccies again
My combat chocobo's name is Jerry, after a particularly mean duck that my family used to own.
Ezra's chocobo is called 'Lazarus' and he has black feathers.
Eli's chocobo has white feathers and is called 'Obitus'.
My racing chocobo is named Quantum Arrow, while my fighting chocobo is named Nike. After all, she brings victory ^^
My P9 racing chocobo is called Blue Nova. Since P1, all my chocobo chicks had names derived from colours and weather phenomenon/celestial objects like Azure Tempest, Veridian Gales or Cerulian Galaxy.
My personal Chocobo: Kentucky.
It simultaneously feels like something you might name a horse, but if I need emergency rations…
I also only did like one Chocobo race, but I recall naming my racing Chocobo Grosser Klein, which I’m pretty sure is German for Biggie Smalls.
My companion chocobo is named Merido. Its the name of a furniture set at office depot, lmao, but it sounded cool.
You never get the bonus at first place, because the bonus is receiving the same reward as the winner (more XP and MGP).
its nice to see this, less than a week ago i went from a pedigree 1 to 9 chocobo (in 2 days)
My Chocobo’s name is Plergoth. It’s named after one of the Gigas from Skies of Arcadia.
Let's go I've been waiting for chocobo racing!
Ok, in answer to the question. My Chocobos:
Combat: Supotto (Japanese for Spot)
Current Race: Rutilant Malevolent
Character: Mary Jigoku @ Goblin
The popularity spike of chocobo racing after this video needs to be studied
Tossing this into the comment section abyss, but the Bonus for Chocobo Racing is NEVER for First Place. I'm a little shocked Cider didn't noticed that it cycles between 2nd and 8th only.
My main's companion chocobo is Fethers. For OC lore reasons (including mis-spelling).
My alts have Sylbmoen (Silver Moon) and Carnation as their companion chocobos.
I think my current racing chocobo is named Wild Mandragora, because I got lucky with a green bird after getting through my pedigree racing and breeding.
My chocobo's name is Noodles. A friend of mine saw it and she just went "NOODLES". That was 7 years ago.
Great video Cider!
My current racing chocobo is named Outlaw Arrow and she's unfortunately only a pedigree 7 with a rating of 104 so I'm not quite there yet for some of those achievements in racing
I love chocobo racing! Can't wait to see how this goes
Racing Chocobo: Metal Miracle
I named my fighting chocobo 'DoctorBananas' after an old beloved Neopet I adopted like 20 years ago.
That NPC Chocobo name 'Stunning Stunts' is fantastic
My chocobos name is Carl, named after the lamas with the funny hats ^^
Since I got my chocobo during the free trial years ago(like early SB) and never thought I would continue playing. Named my chocobo just as a joke "Puff". By now, many years later, I love that digital chicken.
My main's choco's name is Kwehlani and my alt's choco's name is Nessie. Kwehlani is red as she is a hatchling of Red Comet and Nessie is green (because of the Apex Legend's mascot being a Nessie and green.)
50 episodes in you be standing on business.
My Chocobo is named Byleth. I was playing a lot of Fire Emblem when I started ARR and it was the first name that came to mind.
My mount chocombo is Boecephas.
My first racing bird was Rocinante. All my successive race birds are 1 word names and I've forgotten the majority of them. But Rocinante is forever.
@@free_live_free-511 I'd suggest to name the perfect G9 chocobo Rociante Junior or something
Companion name: Jace…goes w my MTG Planeswalker name Teferi Beleren. Racing choco name: Flood Uranus
I named my chocobo companion Strider, and I got them up to rank 20 a little while before Dawntrail released.
My chocobo's name is Zeldita after my cat Zelda. I keep meaning to change its feather colors to match her and keep forgetting to actually do it
My battle chocobo is named Talontrot.
My alt's chocobos are named Malika (celeste green) and Rasvan (wine red), both from my D&D character's adventures.
I have no idea what I named my racing chocobos.
Had to name my Chocobo Prompto, as I can only think about his song whenever I see one, "I want to ride my chocobo all day~"
Anger is stored in the eyebrows.
I vaguely recall that I tried out Chocobo Racing right when Gold Saucer first came out and found it a janky mess.
I guess it probably hasn't gotten much, if any, attention since it came out.
I got into choco racing the first time at the last MGP bonus event, pretty good earner between gates
Named my bird Uexukll after a particular green rabbit. I'm aware it's misspelled :3
