    **CORRECTION** at around 10:36 I show an example of Frameflex settings that are incorrect. What I should have done is set the frame to 1:90.1 at the source and project in Frame Flex to perform a desqueeze on the footage. I apologise for this bad demonstration. I had performed this one in a rush (also the reason for the bad audio and lack of Editor t-shirt) and had not given the frame the due diligence required to deduce the aspect ratio.
    A helpful note is that if you are ingesting through Avid and using ALEs from the camera you can often get good data from this on what the targeted Aspect ratio should be. Then input this in the source side and it will keep you right. Or in your camera logs from the crew, this info should also be present there.Thank-you @dariussilenas2801 for keeping me right!!

    quick transition only added tail of the first clip not middle of two clip why?
    some time quick tansition showing just 1 frame?

    • @theavidassistant
      @theavidassistant  2 роки тому +1

      Is this something that's happening on your home system? When you open quick transition you must set the number of frames for the transition and where it starts at ends (ie where it's placed over the two clips).
      Hope that helps but let me know if you're still having issues with quick transition.

      @@theavidassistant a clip showing 100 of frame b just 1 frame. i can't move the transition icon to right position 😭

    • @theavidassistant
      @theavidassistant  2 роки тому

      Instead of dragging the icon to the right try filling in the duration and then filling in the other field for the start position of the transition (how many frames before the cut). I'm not add avid right now to give exact instructions but if you fill out a 50fr duration for example and then to start 25fr before the cut you'll have the full transition available.
      If there is a cut or an edit to close to the cut point then this could throw it off so make sure there's no match frame transitions there too.

      @@theavidassistant when i add a single clip in to the timeline i can set head n tail dissolve perfectly. but then i splice a second clip in to the timeline the first clip's tail dissolve auotomaticaly gone it just missing

      It would depend where and how you added it on. You may have erased the transition with the edit in of the new shot. Show be really quick to just add a new transition in though, no?

    How does one restrict avid from automatically adding frame flex to clips? I recently moved from version 10 to 2022.12. My sequence and project settings have not changed, yet with 2022 it automatically adds frame flex, causing my clips to lose resolution as it resizes to compensate for the frame. So confusing and frustrating.

    • @theavidassistant
      @theavidassistant  Рік тому

      Frame flex is not an effect perse but more like transform controls. It is auto applied to any clip that differs from the project resolution (ie 1080p project and 4K clips). Frame flex has all the controls you'll need to adjust the clips to suit how you want them to look in your project. It was added in v7.0 in 2013 and has worked the same way since then.

    Hey, I tried your suggestion (I first consolidated the sequence to see all clips in the same bin and not all over a large project). I selected all clips in the same bin where the sequence is> right click, chose SOURCE SETTINGS > RASTER DIMENSIONS > 3840 X 2160 UHD > OK > then REFRESH SEQUENCE > ALL (OR ASPECT RATIO) to quickly change my SEQUENCE'S clip with raster dimensions from 17:9 (DCI 4K) to UHD (16:9), but it didn't work. My workaround is to match frame each clip > if the raster of that clip is not corrected, correct it > then replace clip (generally only video with audio track unchecked as long as I am parked at the first frame of that clip) ...a bit cumbersome, do you have another way to correct raster using FrameFlex in a timeline (sequence, not a clip)? Thanks!

      @theavidassistant  Рік тому

      Huh that's weird as it should definitely work. I've done it many times! Have you tried it on just one clip? Match frame and find bin and then run the process and refresh the seq? Remember it has to be on the same iteration of these clips that are on the timeline.

    What avid should change is like they have in Premiere.. Scale to Frame size in 3d warp or resize.. and keep whatever resolution there is.. they need to update this end of the effects palate

    • @theavidassistant
      @theavidassistant  2 роки тому

      I agree that they definitely need to update 3D warp to utilise the entire resolution of the source clip. It's been mentioned to them many times by many editors (including myself) so I know they are aware and have hope that it's coming!!

    Hi, do you have a tip in frame flex for clips turned vertical but has turn horiontal. Thanks

    • @theavidassistant
      @theavidassistant  2 роки тому

      Hey there. Do you mean for using vertical clips in the timeline? Like for example footage from an iPhone? What format is your Project set to?

    • @zoom9785
      @zoom9785 2 роки тому +1

      @@theavidassistant yes, the footage from a iphone. Project is 1920x1080 but the shot is 1080x1920. And I don't want to crop in the footage when it's rotated. Thanks

    • @theavidassistant
      @theavidassistant  2 роки тому

      All you should have to do is change reformat to "pillarbox/letterbox".
      I've just tested it at my end.
      Full settings top to bottom:
      Image size - 1080x1920
      Image aspect ratio - 9:16
      Pixel aspect ratio- 1:1
      Frame aspect ratio - 9:16
      Reformat - Pillarbox/Letterbox
      Then if you'd like to know how to do the vertical footage effect (blurred bg of video. The way the use vertical footage on the news) I showed that on my "5 avid effects with no plugins" video on the channel. Link below 😊

    I think your last example of frameflex 4:3 image is a bit wrong. It’s not 4:3, it’s a squeezed anamorphic image that needs to be desqueezed.

      Will take a look at this as soon as I can! Will make a community post explaining if this is the case. Thanks for pointing it out!!

    Also don't we wish frame flex could be saved as effects.. I constantly have to resize photos with moves in frame flex and cant save the moves... I know about pan and zoom but it would be easier in FF

    • @theavidassistant
      @theavidassistant  2 роки тому

      Yeah. I really wish Pan and Zoom was updated a bit. I'd like a way to ingest stills and have them brought in automatically with functions like Pan and Zoom available to me without having to drop the effect on and import the still that way. Just a bit cumbersome. I must admit I'm not a huge fan of frame flex. It's only really useful for getting formatting right on initial ingest and not much else.
      If you are only doing basic move and resizing you could do these with PIP effect or 3D Warp but again not ideal. Avid has a long way to go with stills (Which I'll be talking about in the next video!)
